  •

When I took out my mortgage the exit fee was £50, when I did exit they charged me £199.

I wrote to them as Martin suggested with all the relevant paperwork In July 2007, I have called them numerous times and they just fob you off saying that they are unable to put you through to the department as they do not take external calls.

Can anyone give me any more ideas ????
  • Just rang up the number on MSE website and straight away said that I was entitled to £192.

Interestingly I could not find anything on my final mortgage statement to suggest where this figure came from?

Thanks Barclays for pretty good customer service
  • Only in the last couple of weeks got into this site and spotted this one about reclaiming exit fees. We changed our mortgage in 2003 from Halifax to Intelligent Finance. I rang the Halifax on the number given in this site, gave them our old a/c number and asked them to check what exit/administration fee I'd paid. I'd paid £175 and it should have been £75 - received a cheque today (16th October) for £100!! For a 5 minute 'phone call - it was certainly worth my time!

  • Got my cheque today, envelope was dated the 4th but delayed due to the strike I assume, otherwaise would have turned up really quickly.

    Thx again Martin
  • Been trying for two months to contact I Group Mortgages. I have written, emailed, telephoned but had no response until i faxed them(managing director) threatening legal action if they didn't reply. Surprise surprise recieved a reply two days later (and during the postal strike!) to say cheque for £90.00 is on it's way.
I had no details of how much i had paid, simply asked them for information.
So persevere and try faxing if you don't get a respose to letters/calls/emails.
    Thanks Martin:T
  • I got a very prompt £55 back from Nothern Rock which was the difference between the fee detailed in my contract (£195) and what I was actually charged (£250). I just sent them the template letter from the site and within 10 days it was all sorted!

    Thanks Martin

  • Thank you! Using your template I contacted the Bradford and Bingley. They inform me that a cheque for £185 is on the way. Couldn't have done this without you!

A&L have just sent me a cheque for £220.00!!! I only phoned them last week and said 'I would like to reclaim my mortgage exit fee please' I was told my request would be referred to customer services and I would get a questionaire to see if I qualified. No questionaire, just a lovely cheque instead. Happy Days. Thank you Martin for the info!
  • I managed to recover the Mortgae Exit Administration Fee that I paid on my Nationwide Mortgage. Thank you Martin Lewis.
  • Hi, Can anybody help??
I rang Halifax to enquiry about the £150 exit administration fee, and they told me that they will not refund me because was written on my mortgage contract that I took with them 2 years ago. A few days later, they sent me a letter saying" The fee covers the administrative cost of closing your mortgage accound and removing our charge from the Land Registry" and they detailed the process in the letter
Has anybody here been in the same situation and got their money back? Please please let me know.
    Cheers:confused:
