Though I'd give it a go...unfortunately I had a mortgage with the Nationwide who (when I redeemed it 5 years ago) charged me nothing as a MEAF!Why????????????Pleased in a way but was quite looking forward to a little extra for the summer hols!Damn these companies who actually don't rip you off!!!The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself. (Oscar Wilde);)0

Hi
I wrote off my letter to Alliance and Leicester and within just 2 weeks, I received a cheque for £220. It was so easy. Thanks for the tips.0 -
Wow - it worked! I didn't even know how much I'd been charged (lost the paperwork), or what my original contract had said - simply had my account number for Leeds Building Society.
So wrote them a letter stating that I noted the FSA judgement earlier this year and I wanted them to check to see if they owed me anything. Wrote that last week, and got a cheque for £50 this week!
:T
Now waiting for Alliance & Leicester to get back to me as well...0 -
Just a further update on my recent reply on the 15th - A&L have actually refunded the full amount!! Yes £299 + interest = £318!!
Originally they sent me a cheque for £100 which I felt was too little so I rang them back and told them so. About a week later I received a second cheque for £218 and a nice letter explaining that the full amount of £299 + interest was being refunded!
Well done A&L - excellent response!
Thanks again to Martin and the team!0 -
I recieved £155.00 from C&G-no problems sent me a cheque within a week of phoning them.;)
Still waiting for cheque from B&B who wanted the request in writing blah blah, though have had an acknowledgement letter saying they were looking into it (I actually had a figure of £155.00 from them too quoted to me over the phone when I rang them-so am expecting that amount to be sent to me)
Fingers crossed I'll recieve it soon!
My daughter had hers put directly into her account by her BS-just £50 but worth enquiring about!
Thankyou Martin you are our hero!:T0 -

Just helped my parents reclaim their exit fee. Got a letter from the Britannia yesterday morning saying the "discharge fee applicable for early redemption" was £30 when the mortgage was completed but states that in May 2003 they were charged £50 so as a result a cheque for £20 was enclosed. However is this the same as the MEAF or a different fee? I've also seen several posters talk about a £35 deeds release fee charged by the Britannia but no mention of it and sadly no paperwork to proove or disprove that this was charged. Anyone have any ideas if such a charge was made in 2003?0
