  • Changed mortgage from Abbey to Nationwide early 2004 and was charged £99, requested a review 2 weeks ago and received a cheque for £49 this week, we had originally been quoted £50 when we took it out in 1993. Thanks Martin keep up the good work.:j

    Claims can only technically be made back as far as 6 years (5 in Scotland) so if they're using that line, Brogan21, you've not really got much recourse. Most lenders aren't doing that, but obviously HBoS are.

  • I wish to share my good fortune today with everyone, and to let you know just how easy it is to get your exit morgage money back. I phoned the Halifax today on 08451203033.. Its an automated service at first telling you that the FSA states that you can reclaim any monies own to you. All you need is your roll number, ( if you dont have it dont worry as they will go off your address ) They need the year you bought your house and the year you left. Also they ask a few security questionsie; ie; date of birth; Anyway within seconds the lady said we owe you 135 pounds and we shall get a cheque in the post to you. I could not believe how easy it was. So if anyone is reading this please just make that phone call. It takes just a few mins to get money that is yours anyway. Good Luck. Red Lizzie.......x

    Have sent off a letter to Bristol & West asking for a refund, hopefully I am as lucky as you.......well done!
  • I recently redeemed my mortgage having been with A&L since 1990 and was charged £295 MEAF.
    Following these articles, I wrote to request a refund to levels set way back then.
    Reply from A&L stated that as I changed my mortgage terms during this period (to take out extra as well as moving to fixed rates etc), they claim I have signed to accept the £295 fee.This is annoying as when people need to take on the offer of a specific interest rate, clearing the loan is not at the forefront of the mind.
    Is this fair and does anyone have any advice on next step?

    You agreed to pay £295 when you took a new product/further borrowing, and they've charged what you both agreed. Yes, it's fair.

  • It is only a couple of weeks since the letters were sent off and in addition to the £50 from the Bristol & West I have now received £126 from Abbey. £176 up all for the price of 2 stamps.
