Have you run out of sensible arguments when you resort to this sort of thing?
That questions seems to answer itself.
Chaney, take your little tantrum over Abbey doing exactly as they are supposed to elsewhere. Just because another lender made a mistake, doesn't mean all lenders should take their lead.Scott0 -
I was unfortunate enough to be with Preferred Mortgages who charges me £210 last year to exit my mortgage when i moved house. I have had a letter in from them today saying they only charged what they state in a small leaflet, which i couldnt even find with my documentation. Can i still challenge this as being an unfair charge? or is that the end of the road for my claim?:eek:0

Read Martin's article and look at your lender and the dates involved and see what the position was when you took the mortgage out and when you redeemed it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Sandravh - if you signed up to a £210 MEAF, and they charged you that, you don't have a basis for a claim, I'm afraid - I'm in exactly the same position with the Abbey! You can only claim if they originally quoted you one thing, and charged you another.
soontobesensible - There is information on this site about the charges that different lenders were quoting 5 and 10 years ago. Plus, you can still call that lender, and give them your mortgage number saying you want the difference back - they will be able to see what you were quoted, and what you were charged. Just bear in mind that they might not have fleeced you, so the answer you get might be that you were only charged the amount quoted.
HTH.' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I paid my mortgage off 3 years ago and followed the instructions on the web-site and used the standard template letter - spent £1 on "signed for" delivery to lloydstsb. within 5 days I got a letter from them apologising and a cheque for £105.75p with a full explanation of how the refund was calculated - BRILLIANT!!!!!

I rang and asked for a copy and they told me to send a cheque for £35.00 and they would send me a copy (NO CHANCE OF ME DOING THAT)
So I blagged it by using the chart on the website and said my original fee was £30 and did all my calculations based on that. The letter received today informing me a cheque is on its way and apologising for their error. In fact the original fee was £90.00 so all this was explained to me in their letter
but hey whose complaining £105.75 returned to me
Go on just use the information provided on the website from Martin and see what happens0 -
I wrote to Northern Rock asking them to refund the difference in the MEAF quoted my original contract in 2000 and the higher amount charged in 2005 when I redeemed the mortgage; I received £100 within the week, happy days, thanks a lot Martin, keep em coming, you are a little genius.

I downloaded the template letter & sent it off to Northern Rock who I switched away from a few years ago. I've just received a reply from them to advise they overcharged me by £65, I've just sent off their acceptance form & look forward getting the cheque soon !! Many thanks to this Site.0
