    Hi

I guess I am straight in at the deep end! I have just read Martin's article and since we remortgaged at the beginning of this year I dug out the redemption statement (GMAC). It quotes a repayment Administration fee of £135.00 but also lists a lot more ie. deeds production fee = £50.00, Charges (unspecified ) = £400.00, Expenses (again unspecified) = £120.00.
From what I have read some, if not all, of these are MEAF in a different guise.
    Can anybody advise me?

    Thanks

Write to them stating that they've charged you £x (being the total of the amounts listed) as an MEAF when you redeemed your mortgage and that is more than you were quoted when you took out the mortgage and you want an appropriate refund.

    Then see what they say.

I saw Martin on GMTV about 2 months ago explaining about the mortgage exit fee.C&G charged me £225 so i wrote to them saying how unfair the charge was and should be no more than £50.within a week they sent me a cheque for £185 (£175 + £10 they said i gained in interest).they sent me a lovely letter of apology. No forms to fill in just a simple letter.
    Thanks Martin :A
  • I rang the Halifax last week to enquire about claiming money back they asked for my roll number which i explained i did not have to hand so, gave my other details and was told I was owed £100 and that it would be with me within 28 working days, 7 days later I have my £100. I cannot believe how easy it was THANK YOU :T

I also rang the Halifax about my mortgage that I closed back in 2003. I had no records left myself but the helpful guy on the phone found my account and I am due £35. Not bad for a 3 minute call, almost as much as an estate agent makes.

    Dark in here, is't it...
  • This is my first post and I thought I would say a big thanks, I have today rung the C&G to ask for a refund of a closing Admin Charge. My sister and I along with my father repaid his old mortgage and the 3 of us took out a new one in June 2006. I have been told they will look into the charge of £225 and consider a full refund. I am over the moon.
Thanks to you all and I will keep you posted when the money arrives.

It took all of 6 minutes to get £168.06 back from Barclays (Formally Woolwich Account). Freephonre Number. Immediate Bacs transfer.

    Exit fee £195.00
    Agreement £ 38.50

    £156.50 + interest at 4%.

    Thanks to the Moneysavingexpert
  • I had two mortgage accounts with The Woolwich for the same property. I phoned them in April to claim back mortgage redemption fees which should have been £50.00 on each and was told that I had been overcharged and could claim back the difference. I redeemed the first account in 2002 and the Woolwich refunded the difference which was £45 plus interest. They are now refusing to refund the fee on the other account which I redeemed in 2006 saying that they never charged me a fee on this account. If they did refund me it would have been £225 plus interest. I think they have decided they don't want to refund two lots of fees as their call centre comfirmed I had been charged £275. It has taken me 4 months of letter writing and I am getting nowhere. What shall I do next? Has this happened to anyone else out there?
