Have just spoken to Halifax as my mortgage was redeemed with them about 12 months ago. Asked them for a form and was advised by the more than helpful Ken that if I had my info they could have a look at this and sort it without a form. Gave Ken the info and was advised they owed me £100, was advised that due to the number of calls they are getting it is likely to take about 4 weeks for a cheque to be sent to me.
£100 in less than 5 minutes
Cheers Martin you're a star :beer:0 -
Just read the article about claiming MEAF. I had a mortgage with RBS from Mar '03 til Feb '06 until I sold my house, so I decided to phone them as per your chart. I explained that i was phoning about my MEAF and she sighed. I asked if she had a lot of calls relating to this and she replied, very courteously, 'yes'. The long and short of it is she put me on hold for two minutes and came back to tell me i was entitled to a refund. It will be in my bank account in the next ten working days. £150!!!!!!!!!!! Easy as that. You got me back over £2000 with my bank charges and now you got me another £150 just like that. If I meet you Martin, I believe I owe you a BIG drink. Thanks again. Now find a loophole to say mortgages are illegal and my house will be paid off.
After typing this i remembered that I had a mortgage with the Halifax prior to this one so I phoned them and I am getting £35 back off them as well. It's getting better everytime.0 -

Just called the Woolwich/ Barclays, very 'matter of fact' obviously reading from a strict script which you can tell they say a 100 times a day, as it's said in two seconds and all in one breath! Took my old account number and imformed me how much i should of been paid and when, and 'if i'd check i my bank statements i'd find i was paid it!'. He said no more! I asked him why it was a small amount and he said he they are only obliged to give you the difference between what you were quoted at the start of the mortgage (which was sept 2004) and what you actually paid at redemption (which was apr 2007). I felt like a real twit :embarasse and that i had been told in a nice way 'youve had your money now bog off!' He was really rude and ive checked and i had my money but it was just put in my account but no letter or anything to explain what it was, i thought it was a couple of days interest i'd over paid. Not impressed with them at all :mad:Loom0

i have called cheltenem & gloucester about the charges. we bought a new place in sept 2005 and switched mortgages as well i have just been told quite bluntley that because it states in our redemtion fee statement that the fee will be £225 we are not entitled to any refund on the policy ?? any thoughts on this anybody?0

Not impressed with them at all
Why?
You seem disappointed that they hadn't put their fees up more to try and rip you off. Most people would prefer their lenders to have been like this in the first place.
Its like the post we had yesterday from someone not happy they couldn't complain and get redress as their endowment had paid a surplus.i have called cheltenem & gloucester about the charges. we bought a new place in sept 2005 and switched mortgages as well i have just been told quite bluntley that because it states in our redemtion fee statement that the fee will be £225 we are not entitled to any refund on the policy ?? any thoughts on this anybody?

I remortgaged from Standard Life in 2003 but no longer had any paperwork so phoned them last Monday not feeling hopeful.
I am pleased to say I wasn't passed around various departments - the first person I spoke to dealt directly with my request, located my details and advised Customer Services would be in touch with me within 2 weeks. (Although she did not give any indication if any refund was likely).
Today a letter arrived from Standard Life with a refund cheque for £150. Result!:T :T :T
The letter revealed that Standard Life was not charging a MEAF when I took out my mortgage around 1999/2000 but by 2003 had introduced it and (cheekily) added it to my redemption figure.................2018 MFW #60 £1200/£6000
2017 MFW #60. £3902.22/£2500
2016 MFW #60. £2175.51/£50000
