Got an offer from Bristol and West today, original paperwork stated a charge of £150 and they actually charged £195, they have offered £45 difference back. I think we will take it.

    Thanks Martin once again.
  • Just discovered today that this reclaim was a possibility. I called Halifax and they will be sending a cheque for the £100 difference between what was quoted in October 2003 (£75) and what was charged in October 2006 (£175). Thank you very much for your advice.
  • Just received a cheque for £67.50 from Alliance and Leicester, all for the price of a second class stamp. Its not a fortune but better in my pocket than theirs!:j

A quick telephone call to the Halifax and they said they would send out a cheque for £100 for the difference in my mortgage exit fee quoted/paid! Thankyou very much, Martin. A very worthwhile phone call.

Contacted A&L about our fee of £299 on redeeming last year - within one week I received cheque of £100.
I rang them and said I felt the fee was still extortionate and also that I wanted interest - well today I received a cheque for £218!!!
All for two phone calls - THANKS MARTIN!! Donation to my favourite charities.
  • Just to say thanks very much. I had to send letters to Paragon Personal Finance & MortgageDirect, formerly Brittannicmoney, I've been advsied today that Paragon are sending a cheque for £105. This is not even for a mortgage exit fee, it's apparently a good will gesture and is part refund of the £150 admin fee for closing the personal loan early.
MortgageDirect are also sending a cheque £225, a refund of the whole fee.
£330 back for not a lot of time, so thanks again.
  • Britannia want to charge me £50.00 for a discharge fee.
But then they say that they require an extra £35.00 for the discharge of my deeds - surely that should be included in the £50.00 fee ?

Anyone have any experience or comments ? I'm refusing to pay the extra £35.00 !!

If you were originally quoted £50+£35, then that's how much you should pay.
