Phoned LLoyds TSB on 0845 603 1637.
I had repaid my mortage in 2005 and paid £180 fee. Advisor I spoke to said the fee was £90 when I took out the mortgage in 2002 and they will refund the £90 plus £15 interest.
5 minute phonecall.

Just telephoned the Halifax regarding a mortgage i ended in 2004 i spoke to a very helpful lady who informed me that i was entitled to a £60 refund and a cheque will be on it's way to me !!!
After this success i then telephoned the Coventry regarding a mortgage that i ended in 2006 and was told i was entitled to a £100 refund but i need to write a letter requesting it to their customr relations department !!
How fantastic !!!
£160 earned in 10 mins

Wrote to the Cheshire on Monday and today received a cheque for £100. They are only going back to when you last renewed your mortgage product not the original contract but luckily the fee was only £50 when I last renewed 3 years ago and is now £150 hence the refund.0

Ohh lovely. All these days I just ignored all his MEAF hype, suddently this morning I thought by the way I had also switched mortgage once from Halifax to C & G and decided to call halifax without having any documentation. Just a 5 min phone call just gave my details and bloke at the other end says they would send me a cheque for £40 in the next 4 to 5 working days. I know 40 probably doesnt sound too much, but why then make these rich banks richer. To me £40 means a vacuum cleaner, yeaahh hoooo i am happy and many thanks to Martin....0

A big thanks to Martin and the team!!! :T
Remortgaged from A&L last year to Halifax, checked what I was charged by A&L and discovered it was £295. I rang last week and they were very helpful - and told me I was due a refund. Today in the post was a cheque for £100 and a statement saying if they did not hear from me in seven days they would consider the matter closed. A two minute phone call was all it took. Just wondering if it is worth trying for more considering the actual cost - any thoughts?
Thanks again - a donation will also go to a charity.:j0 -
Thanks for the tip and the standard letter that I found on this thread and doctored to suit my details.
Sent the letter off and received a reply yesterday sayin original fee was £85 and when I left my exit fee was £225 so received a cheque for £151 which included £11 interest at 8%.
Happy Days

Hi
Can anyone please shed some light on the situation with mortgages taken out with Birmingham Midshires circa 1987 and closed 2001. My partner is searching for, but currently unable to find her documentation and we know that they became part of Halifax since then. Will we have to go through Halifax or do BM still exist independantly?
Thanks for your help0 -
A big thank you to Martin et al.
As suggested I telephoned A&L Customer Services to 'complain' about my previous mortgage exit fee. Advisor was very helpful and was able to acknowledge there was an overcharge. Within 10 to 14 days had a cheque for £220 in the post.
