  • OK, I posted earlier our succes with RBS. Just after making the phone call to RBS, thought we'd try our luck with FirstPlus on the phone as well. They denied all knowledge of such things but logged it as a complaint, but within 3 days and no further prompting from us (I was considering writing the template letter to them), we have a cheque for 150 smackeroos on our doormat, from them. Happy, happy days!!

    RBS - £125
    FirstPlus - £150
All from two 5 minute calls. Well done MSE & all on this forum who have encouraged people to try.

Contacted the Staffordshire Railway Building but got a totally opposite response with the phone being put down on me after they said that they dony charge exit fees, does anyone know if this is correct.
But hey thanks to MSE we are 70.00 better off all for the cost of a phone call.THANKYOU

I rang the Woolwich last week to claim back my redemption fee of
£150. They gave me back the whole amount + interest £172 and it was in my bank account the next day!
  • Just a quick note to say thank you we got £90.00 back from nationwide with no hassle:T

    Hi

I phoned the Woolwich on Tuesday at 4.00 and by Wednesday morning £106.00 was in my account. Brilliant!

However, I phoned the Portman on Tuesday and was told to put my request in writing which I did. I have had a letter this morning advising that my 'Complaint' has been logged and they will contact me. I am fuming as it was not a complaint just a request:mad: for my money back. I tried to call them but of course they are not open til Monday ay 9.00am. Has anybody else had this problem with the Portman or anything similar?

    Many thanks
I don't see your problem, givenup. Most lenders will treat this as a complaint and put it through their standard complaints process. Doing so doesn't make any (adverse) difference to you. You'll still get whatever refund you are due, after they've processed it.

I would imagine that they are quite rightly annoyed by getting hundreds or thousands of phone calls from people who were never charged a fee, but couldn't be bothered to check their redemption statements!

Some lenders indeed never charged such a fee.
  • Just had my refund cheque from Abbey....for £4!!!!! hehe never mind with that and the £83.06 from Woolwich my 'Martin Savings' account is off the ground!
MFW - We've only gone and blooming done it!
