    Not the same for me.

I spoke to Bradford & Bingley on the 3rd May. I was told to send a letter with all the details I could find and they would reply to me within 21 days. I've received an acknowledgement of my letter but nothing else as yet - will keep my fingers crossed.

Update: I have received the difference between the original release fee and the cost now from both of my recent mortgage providers as follows:

    Bradford & Bingley
    £140 - £75 = £65

    Bank of Ireland
£195 - £145 = £50 (did this one back in September last year - further info at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=257193&page=2)

£115 - not bad at all for a few letters :D, but I have to say that Bank of Ireland are very, very awkward about this and you have to fight them to the last.

I could not beleive how easy it was to get this money back. Have been telling my friends who will be passing on the good news!

Seems Northern Rock didn't charge quite as much as other companies do/did.

Wrote one letter to Northern Rock and within two days got a response explaining that we had overpaid by £35.00 and once signing their form and replying, it would be sent immediately!

If only reclaiming bank charges were just as easy!
  • I made 3 phonecalls (Woolwich, Halifax, Mortgage Express) which in total took 14 minutes of my time. The overall result was a refund of £265.

The Woolwich and Halifax had staff designated to this service, however, the person who dealt with this type of 'complaint' at Mortgage Express did not take incoming calls. She did telephone back within 24 hours and tell us that we needed to put our complaint in writing. When we told her that we were not obliged to do this she agreed and said that she would send us a cheque for the £35 owed to us in 21 days. However, we received a letter 2 days later saying that we were going to receive a refund of £155 shortly!

You really need to stand your ground with these people - most are fine but there seems to be a few companies who will try and worm their way out of it!

    Good luck with your claims.
  • We remortgaged from the Nationwide to Skipton on the 1st May 2007. Nationwide charged us a £90 "Redemption Administration Charge". Having seen the recent discussions, I checked our original mortgage offer and terms from 2002 - No mention of any MEAF! - I sent a letter to Nationwide on 2nd May asking the money back, and today (12th) received a cheque for £90! Very easy.

    Thankyou MSE! :T

I switched lenders from TMB which was taken over by the Halifax eighteen months ago and remember at the time querying this two hundred odd pounds they had deducted and couldnt find out what it was for..they baffled me with science so in the end i gave up.
After seeing Martins slot of GMTV i phoned the Halifax and was told there would be a full refund of 250.00 coming to me in a cheque...just like that...............
Exactly seven days later it arrived..
    Very gratefully received:T
Received £250.00 with one phone call to reclaim Mortgage Exit Administration£ fees AND £2995.00 bank charges from Lloyds TSb..All thanks to Martin Lewis. :T :money::T:beer:

Hi, I paid off my mortgage last year to the RBS and they charged a £225 sealing fee. I contested this and heard nothing. My Mum put me onto your site and I sent them a letter 10 days ago using your template letter and yesterday I got a reply advising that I would get a refund of £150 (charging me the original £75 fee).

Can not believe how quick they were to respond, considering they never even acknowledged me settling my mortgage with them last year !

    Thanks again

    Hi

I phoned the Woolwich on Tuesday at 4.00 and by Wednesday morning £106.00 was in my account. Brilliant!

However, I phoned the Portman on Tuesday and was told to put my request in writing which I did. I have had a letter this morning advising that my 'Complaint' has been logged and they will contact me. I am fuming as it was not a complaint just a request:mad: for my money back. I tried to call them but of course they are not open til Monday ay 9.00am. Has anybody else had this problem with the Portman or anything similar?

    Many thanks
