Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 26th November. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hugs to all those who are suffering at present.
Insomnia rules again, lol.
Still if I get back to sleep at least it is Saturday so I don't have to rush around to get to work.
There seems to be some bad news in the offing with hubby's job, we aren't sure exactly what's happening yet so we will wait & see.
I've been on a mad spending spree as I got paid on Wednesday, I bought hubby 2 pairs of work trousers & a pair of sheepskin slippers, the slippers are his Christmas present. I bought some shoe goo in an attempt to mend my shoes, I have 2 pairs of flat shoes that I wear to work & both pairs have sprung a leak, I'm bidding on a pair of shoes on ebay too, I walk miles in my job, so I'm very hard on shoes. I have been given a Barbie train, a Christmas present for the foster grandaughter & managed to win a Barbie on ebay to go with it. I still need to get something for her 6 year old brother & then stuff for the grandchildren, I spend under £10 per child & won't buy anything for 10 month old DGD, but I will give DD & SIL B&Q vouchers again towards the work they need to do on their house.
Right time I made another cuppa.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good Morning Hester and All Who Follow x
Really hope you get back to sleep H x
I'm up but it is my own doing as I over indulged (2 prawn toast, a mouthful of chow mein and a spring roll) at DS2's Birthday Feast. Well I love Chinese food but it hates me and so Im up with an upset tummy. It is settling now but worth the pain:T
Hope you are all doing ok? Im a busy bee at the moment but hopefully back to OS soon. DD is preparing for her trip to New York on Monday with her Dad so it is very exciting. We are getting the Christmas Tree (s) out of the loft and putting it up so I can decorate it at my own pace next week.
Off to sell my very old and very dilapidated car today. It gave me good service though but has now been replaced. Is it sad to see a car go? It was my mobile office and rest room in my community midwife days so holds many memories. It is time to move on though so onwards and upwards!
Have a really good weekend.
Lots of hugs to Jackie G and Lou at this difficult time xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning.
Saturday and early, but it's quiet and peaceful and I have a great cup of fresh brewed coffee from PNG.
I made 4000 posts today, took a while as I don't spend much time on here really. Still the best chat forum about though.
Molly hope you can say farewell to your car. You said your car used to be the rest room "and rest room" In America that means toilet :rotfl: Sold mine last month after having it for 7 years. It can be hard to part with them... But the new one is better.
Busy day ahead... Spring cleaning, well sort of. I need to tidy the office ready for my new computerand then list this big pile of stuff on e-bay to sell before Christmas... FREE e-bay LISTING TODAY folks.
Outside- trim the growing wall plants so I can see where to hang the Christmas lights on the gutters.... etc..
Well, have a good day folksNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Quiet weekend here., no kids home this week, made a nice dinner of salmon, green beans and mash last night and lentil soup. Lots of soup left so that it lunch sorted, just hope it will be enough for OH......
Need a boot up the behind to get moving today..been spending way to much time on the pc and need to have a good tidy through and sort out.
My good news is that I am coming to the uk in 10 days time, my mum will be 80 so will be celebrating that with her at a small family lunch...
Been racking my brains on what to buy her and have more or less decided to go with a voucher for afternoon tea at one of the London hotels, has anyone any experience with doing this?? Am tempted by the Ritz tho' its really expensive , but my mum has been so sick this past year I thought it would be nice for her to have something to look forward to in the spring and she really doesnt need anymore "stuff". Any other ideas??
Hope everyone has a good weekend.........0 -

Morning everybody....
DD2 got accepted at the new school yesterday, I got a phone call at 3 just before going to pick her up. So she will have half day monday to say goodbye to everybody and then onto the new school for dinner and stay for the afternoon. She is very excited, I took her to visit on Friday morning and she loved it. Her present teacher said she talked non stop about the new school when I dropped her back at school.
My Clothing order finally arrived yesterday, I needed it for Sunday. And I got a refund of the delivery charge.
I have to park outside my favourite shop for the new school, not sure if I can say this... Co-op... they have such wonderful bargains... i bought a piece of topside which is half price at the moment and I noticed that finish tablets are half price :T:j
OH left for work this morning at 4-30 and will hopefully be back sometime this afternoon, I want to get little dog out with the other dog in the kennels before it gets too cold so she can get used to the cold gradually. OH needs to make the kennel secure.. the little dog can jump higher than the spaniel... apparantly a fully grown greyhound can jump 6 feet in the air
Quiet day here... WM on, DW on, Log Burner on (found a use for all the surplus court papers now court is over) as I had run out of papers lol.. we dont buy a regular daily paper
I need to make some bread... I do have 3 loaves in the freezer but as Im not doing much today I may aswell make some fresh and keep the frozen for rainy or 'snowy' days...
Huggles to all those who need them... Off to catch up on yesterdays posts

Well coming to the end of another night shift, just tonight to get through then off for 12 days and New York on Thursday - will your DD still be there then Molly??
Am really excited now, it's a wonder I can concentrate on work - but I am
Have really fallen off the OS wagon though and when I get back I really must try harder otherwise I won't deserve my Christmas choccies, sloe gin and Bainleys (not in the same glass by the way!)
Anyway, better get on.
I am really sad for those having a difficult time, not much I can say except that my heart is with you.

Morning All
Well awake early, maybe cos I want to play with my new laptop.
Another one selling her car, do not need it, we rarely go out separately never have other than work to be honest, and I can use the other one if I want to go anywhere. Its on E-bay Classified, it was my Company Car then we bought it when I finished, but not big enough to tow the new caravan, and DS who used it for a short while has no need in London when you way up the costs.
Yesterday I cleaned the shower room, set up a new laptop for a friend from Spain, who is coming over at Xmas, but if she cannot carry it back we will take it back in early January. Ordering on line to collect from store (to get Quidco) , and going to collect my own new Laptop and going to see DGNeice & youngest DGNephew we didn't do much. I had got them some bits of clothing from Spain and took them down, as I know it helps their M&D. A vest and Boxer set, some socks, and a tracksuit with long sleeved t-shirt for the little one, and some jeggings for DNeice. She is tall and slim & they looked really good on her, they had a Kitty motif on the front, which helped I am sure :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: The LO was taken by the socks:T, he had to try 2 of the 3 pairs on:D
Tea was jacket spud with l/o mince from the night before. Think DH will be asking for Beans & Egg on toast today, which reminds me I must put a loaf on in the BM. I have some steak thawing in the fridge, but will see what he fancies.
I am thinking of you all at the moment, there is too much bad news on the thread for me to single anyone out, but it does keep our feet on the ground and makes us realise how lucky we are :grouphug:
Shalva I know a few who have had those teas, to me I would not really want it, I would begrudge what they charge, but everyone who has been have really enjoyed them.
Only a a few weeks now until we go down to London and we are off to the Nutcracker which was my 60th birthday pressie from DH & DS all 4 of us to go- another one here who does not need any "stuff". DS is going to do an early Xmas dinner for us and his GF's M&D (we get on well) it is only the week before Xmas, not looking forward to Xmas day really as we had DS last year so this year is his GF's Mums turn, so it wil be Derby & Joan, though we will visit al the GNeice and GNephews in the morning. Might invite some neighbours round in the evening.
Nice to see you n9eav, Molly
Take care all, especial ((hugs)) to all those who are not happy at the moment, Hi 5's, Positive vibes, and loads of spoons. Take care all. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club

Morning everyone
Bit lie in til 8am today :T off to near Weston Super Mud today, seeing relatives we've not seen for nearly a year :eek:Looking forward to it, just hope the kids aren't too ansty in the car <rollseyes>
this will all be happening though once my dad has fixed the car, the battery died last night  problem is I am not using the car much and when I tend to it's at night with lights and heated screens on which just sucks power that I don't recharge.
Really ought to get my skates in, need to make packed lunches for all, tidy the house before we go.
Hugs for Lou and JackieG.
Hester Sending positive vibes re H's job xxx

Morning All
Have caught up on the thread now
Thank you all for the good wishes last night.
We went to see MIL and she seemed to be coping quite well, but she had more bad news, DH's cousin's FIL died yesterday as well, so her children lost both of their granddads on the same day, what are the odds on that.
DH is getting all the Christmas stuff down from the loft tomorrow, but I don't really want to put the tree up until after the funeral, it seems disrespectful somehow.
JackieG - Thinking of you and your poor sis (((((((Hugs)))))))
Beemuzed I hope that they finally give DS the help he needs (((Hugs)))
x
Bitsy Sorry to hear about your poor Mum's Jemma ((((Hugs))))
DH and DD are face painting at the school fete today and DS is going down to help as well, so I plan on getting some bread made and I must top up the Christmas Cake hic
(((((((Hugs)))))) to all in need of one xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Morning all,
Haven't been here for a while, been so busy. The solar panels were fitted on Thursday the day we had DNiece, her DH their 2yr old and 6mth old baby, MyDD2, DGD2 &DGD3 me and DH. Managed to feed all lunch despite the fitters walking in and out to use the bathroom.
It wasn't until the evening when we switched the Tv on that we discovered the fitters had broken the Sky dish so we had to get someone out to fix it, I'll be claiming the cost from them. The good thing was that I was able to finish my book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Socioty by Laura THompson. A brilliant read, highly recommended.
y/day I looked after DGD 2and 3 so DD could get some shoping done and go to her Drs app. Then I had to do shoping and more xmas wrapping. DH treated us to a chinese takeaway, not OS but he said I deserved a break.
Today DD1 & DGD1 are coming to visit, they want my hm cauli & broc cheese bake and garlic bread for lunch so BM is on. We haven't seen DGD since August because she went off to Uni in September and is living in halls. DD2, DGD's 2 & 3 will also be coming for lunch.
I'm off to catch up on news on here, ((((((Hugs)))))) to poorlies and all who need one.
Have a good weekend.0
