Sorry Photome, instant coffee isn't coffee in my books :p neither is the pod stuff. I have a good machine, a good grinder and use good coffee which altogether will produce a great espresso. I really don't mind spending money on the stuff because I use it a lot and I appreciate the result. Had a couple of Gaggia machines over the last 15 years which were fine, now have a La Pavoni which is even better (and yes it's over £300 but the brass boiler does make a difference and is well worth it IMO). So there you go, it's all down to personal preferences I guess :) (oh and I'm French, from the south-east and very close to Italy - that might explain a few things ;) )

Personal opinion, but a much better option than those pod machines on a budget would be a French press for coffee or a stove top for espresso

I'm the only one who drinks coffee in my house and can only drink decaff! The appeal of these machines is that i can make hot choch for everyone and we can use them when people come. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a proper coffee machine but it wouldn't be justifiable in my house!

My brother has one and when I saw the advert last night I just had to treat myself.

I ordered from Comet as their cashback is higher on Quidco.

Even my children are excited to have a hot chocolate. XX

    Free delivery as well.

Its 10.00 dearer in Comet though.

Thanks, a bit over the top to say instant coffee isnt coffee!

I also use a cafetiere and freshly gound coffee on occasions but always find my self back on the instant (altho only premium brands) because of the coveniance

I prefer the pods to a cafetiere, but each to their own. We also have an old filter machine that we use now and again but prefer the pods to that too.

lol that's why I said "in my books" :p I really don't want to offend anyone by it. After 20+ years of only using French press / stove top / semi-auto espresso machines I've got the routine pretty well worked out! It's a bit like food really: you can just chuck ready meals in the microwave or you can cook from scratch.

Edit: also got an Ibrik for Turkish coffee - even more work because the grind needs to be so fine (and I have a manual grinder!)

I've still got my £10 off voucher from the hand mixer deal, would it work on this? can't remember where I put it at the moment to have a look!!
  • I have just been to pick my machine up from Currys. It looks really good, haven't tried it out yet, but it comes with a starter kit of 12 pods and also has a 2 year guarantee!! I'm very happy with this! Thanks again for posting. :T

Debating whether to or not, is there anywhere to purchase cheap pods from.
