Hugs to all who need them It does seem to have been an eventful day.

I had to go and emergency baby sit this evening as youngest dd had to go to the dental hospital in Accrington, which is a few miles from here. She was the last patient and they did not get back till well after 11. She had to have some root canal work as a nerve was causing terrible pain.

Had my dil phone me at 7.30am one morning when they were living in the south asking if we were ok because of the riots. I had no idea what she was talking about so put the news on. It was in Burnley , not close enough to affect us but it had them worried when they heard it on the radio. Some building were set on fire and others were damaged. We are a couple of towns away but she had not realised that.

My ex & I were at the height of our (on his side) very acrimonious divorce, when he & his new GF went to Sharm el Shek (sp).
The hotel next to where they were staying in was bombed.
It was the best of both worlds for me, it totally ruined their holiday, but neither of them were injured, lol.

((((hugs)))) Smile, hope today is a better day for you, and hope the Prodigal GQ Parents make contact today too! My Grandma was a bit of a one for getting herself into trouble, mainly because she went on all the holidays that were dirt cheap - machine gun fire on a coach trip in the Lebanon anyone?

Talking of bins,:eek: I always clean my compost bins, even though I use bags, and the big blue one was beautifully cleaned once with bleach and suds, put out thinking how pleased I was. After the recycling team left, I went out get it...instead of my beautiful clean one was a manky, disgusting, food stuck to sides blue bin!! Whoever used it didn't even use bags or newspaper and it looked like it had never been cleaned since first given out. I did a search for mine, but couldn't find it, but most bins had been taken in anyway. I always wondered what the person thought when they saw my bin, nice and clean...I had my suspects and really wanted to march into their house and say, hand over the bin NOW!! :rotfl::o:eek::mad:

and then I had to clean someone else's carp...

Oh you lot make me :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Heavy downpours again today :( we did have about an hour a no rain yesterday and the garden was covered in flies is anyone else suffering or are they hanging round because we have chooks? We clean the chooks out every day and any dog mess is picked straight up and we wash everything down with jeyes fluid ???

Talking of washing everything down, the bath water we have syphoned off to water the plants (what a laugh in this weather) has earned us 42% discount off our water waste bill. As your bill is split into what you use and how much they have to take away. The bath, shower and washing machine water is re used so that is the discount they say we can have :j:j:j

    Little things

Bought a little mini oven off eb*y for a tenner and have yet to get used to it as the kids will tell you last nights dinner was a little on the crunchy (raw) veg side  well after I set fire to last weeks Victoria sponge I thought I best turn the temperature down :rotfl:

Off to work in the charity shop this morning but it is rarely busy when its raining.

GQ I hope you got some zzzzzzzzzs

    Morning All :)

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. This weather has made me a bit bleugh and I've been trying to get out of the house every day. Also DH came home with a rather large quantity of strawberries which he got at 50p a punnet, so I've been working out ways to deal with those.

PAH Many belated Birthday wishes xxx

smileyt I wish I could just give you a huge hug. If I was closer I would come and help with the allotment, it would be good comedy value if nothing else. Hope you are feeling better today x

GQ I hope you hear from your parents today. Oh and stealing someone's teabags should earn at least a day in the stocks. I'd still be fuming too.

DH and I are used to having cursed holidays. We either have terrible weather, someone gets ill or something else happens. We have done Bournemouth in August with gale force winds and enough rain to put the sea level up at foot, we got stuck in Philli last year for two days on our way to Orlando, done Disneyland Paris with a horrible viral infection that DS1 kindly passed on, done Disneyland Paris again and DS1 got a stomach bug and threw up during the Character breakfast.....etc, etc. I'm giving warning now that DH and I are going Limerick for a few days in October. They will probably have tidal waves or a plague of locusts.

I have sorted out the cupboard of DOOM!!! :T It's still chaotic, but I now have space for some stacker boxes to store kitchen overflow in. DH is grumpy with me as I turfed out a box of cables and 3 bags of assorted carp. I now have 3 boxes of cables in the conservatory, one of work stationary and one of stuff. Why the man needs so many cables is beyond me, that's not counting the ones in the attic and stuffed into drawers and cupboards all over the house. It's not like he is running a 100 computer network for goodness sake.

This weekend DH is fitting the new alarm system and has been told in no uncertain terms that the moment he starts snapping at me I am walking out and leaving him to it. He looked so offended and looked to DS1 for back up. DH was shocked when DS1 said that there are times he has to stop himself from hitting DH when he starts. As fitting the alarm involves emptying wardrobes, moving tvs and furniture and taking up floorboards I can see me spending the afternoon at the cinema.

I suppose I had better go and find something useful to do. I don't want to, but really should.

    Take care everyone xxx

    I think I am now de-jetlagged.:j

Which is not so great in a way as I can now see what a tip the house is in! The worst thing about being away when everyone else is still home is coming back to a strange house - stuff in different places, stuff everywhere as the tidying up fairy (such as it is) seems to come with me, laundry in odd places and not really dried properly and strange foodstuff in the fridge - and all the stuff I'd bought the week before mouldy!

Ah well tis a small price to pay for such a fab week.

DS has been off school all week with swollen glands and now we are wondering about mumps  as school have said there's been 4 cases in the past week. He has had the MMR but I'm not sure whether it can avoid everything as my niece had measles last year and she'd also had the MMR. Luckily DD is off school post GCSE so she has been able to be with him.

OH has gone away for a few days (honestly, I can't do anything but he has to have his share ) so I have today and tomorrow to tidy, sort, put away, clean and shop - after I have been to work today. People tend to think us University chaps have a summer (summer! - ha!) off but in fact we can be as busy as ever. Currently we are organising for resits.

We have had the odd "event" on holiday - nothing dangerous though we did once get a hire care impounded and found ourselves in the bowels of a moroccan police station surrounded by armed policemen. That was the day after a flat tyre when OH stopped a car and asked in his best french "Avez vous un, un JACQUES" cue his darling and brand new wife :rotfl:all over the place and no use whatsoever. Fortunately with much hand signals not only did they 'ave ze Jacques but they changed the tyre for us - obviously thought our car maintenance skills were as good as our french. Last week in French speaking Montreal I asked for a coffee and was asked for "petite ou grande" to which I replied "how grande is grande" he knew what I meant!

Ah well, best check on the boy and make sure he is well enough to leave. It is awful having to leave him but it is only for a couple of hours and the one thing about my job is the flexibility to work from home this afternoon.

    Have a good day all.

You lot talk an awful lot :D
I've been laid low with the ME so not in the mood for much, but am reading and giggling. I can go very down very fast with ME so I stay away from civilized people until I feel better.
Got all sorted with a new bank acc with the Co-op Bank - then realised that if anything happened to me, the RV might be stuck. He can't use internet banking. He could go along to the hole in the wall and get his money if I showed him how, but if there was a problem he would need to trek away up to Edinburgh because that's the only branch. So reluctantly staying with the RBS.
Is odd weather here, luminous bright mist.
I wanted to ask you lovely cooks how to make that gorgeous egg mayo sandwich filling? I love that with cress but mine comes out like catsick.

It's easypeasy Mar. Boil your eggs for approx 8 or 9 minutes, then put cold water on them to stop them cooking in their shells. When they've cooled down a bit, shell them, then mash them up. Add salt & pepper, then mayo. That's it!
