:) Aww PAH, don't fret, hun, no reason for you to think that anyone on the thread had family in the middle of it. Mum went thru WW2 in the East End of London as a small child......leads a charmed life.

I've had a bit of a wobble and I'm OK now. A thousand thanks for all your kindnesses, everybody. I've turned off Radio Jersey as there seems to be no developments and we can only hope the emergency services keep it safe and that those people in St Helier who can't go home tonight find somewhere to rest their heads.

They're not due back until Saturday so will hear from them at the weekend. I know what it's like when you are on "holiday planet" and not watching the news or really tracking what is going on. I'm sure they're having a great time.

;) One thing I did hear just before I turned the radio off was that the fire brigade over there wanted everyone to know that there is a pre-arranged firework display happening on the island at 22.15 tonight and if you hear things going bang........DON'T PANIC...........:rotfl:

When I was on an American forum, a woman got into a panic because her parents were in London, when there was a bombing. I offered to call their hotel, can't remember now why she couldn't, eventually got hold of said parents, who almost hung up on me, as I tried to explain they didn't know me, but...

Seems they were totally oblivious of the bombing and I am sure they thought I was slice short of a sandwich. Bombing? What bombing? Who are you?? :o:eek:

I am sure mum and dad are fine GQ, we never worry when in the middle of things. I was in Bristol when a bomb went off...it did shake the house we were in over 3 miles away, but me and my friends had intended to be in the exact same place as the bomb for the evening but short notice change of mind. Lots of worried people calling. I was ok though so didn't think anything of it.

Oh GQ how scary - but I am sure if there had been a problem one of your parents would have contacted you - as everyone has said they are probably completely oblivious to any issues at all.

My parents went away a few years back and there was major riots or some such where they were, we were panicking back here and they never called at all. Then about four days later DS was sat on my phone chatting away to someone - I asked who and he hung up - it was my parents, their phone was calling out and had poor reception DS had called them and been lucky!

Smiley - dont know what happened but hugs,

DS had bad day today and his old teacher was horrified - I dont think she realised how bad it had got. But she took it all in her stride and has announced her intention to turn it back around and win. On t he plus side he hasnt escaped today - mainly due to huge staff numbers and the infant yard being railings which he cant climb over!! He isnt allowed on other bit with the wall until LEA have made changes - uninsurable, too high risk etc!!

Greyqueen I think it is probably safe to assume that no news is good news in this instance. Apart from one of the workers, there is no mention in the BBC report of any other casualties, so your parents are probably OK and drinking beer somewhere civilised!

My moan earlier was because someone chucked a black bag of rubbish over my back gate (which is 6ft high) and so I had mouldy food and broken glass in my yard. It squashed one of my tomato plants, too. It upset me so much I started crying and then couldn't stop. I have been trying to cut down my dosage of anti-depressants but I think I'm going to have to go back to my GP and tell her it isn't working. I deleted the post because I was in a true depressive funk and thought I didn't deserve any sympathy.

I am feeling a bit better now. I don't think it was a personal thing. There's only one person around here who hates me, as far as I know, and she's an elderly woman and I don't think either she or her husband would be able to heave a bag over a high gate. (She hates me because I asked her to stop feeding the feral cats as the food was attracting rats into the alleyway).

I was feeling weepy anyway because I was thinking of all the pet owners who will be even deeper in the mud when the bedroom tax comes in. Some will be taken out of Housing Benefit which means they won't qualify anymore for PDSA help. David Ca-moron and his cronies are evil personified.

The allotment manager has just been round (at this time of night!! He is a bit of a nutcase, he is known for being a bit odd!) to say I have been issued with a 'get your act together and tidy your plot or else' letter but it was just procedure and if I was having difficulty would I please tell him. My plot is a mess, admittedly. However, I was able to show him the petrol strimmer sitting here in the living room, waiting for petrol, as proof of my intention to go down and get on with it. It was nice of him to come and tell me because the way I am at the moment it would probably have made me cry all day.

I was just thinking - my dogs should really get a stipend from the NHS, they have been exceptionally loving today. Bruno lay down in the park and wouldn't move so I had to stand there and watch the clouds. Once I had relaxed he was ready to get up and walk on. I could swear he did it deliberately to calm me down! Maybe he was trying to make up for all the times he has destroyed my furniture .....

Anyway I am off to watch that family thing on iplayer and then go to bed.

((((((((smileyt)))))))))) your dogs are angels. Even if they do eat the furniture.

Yup, you need a bit of strength to hoik a binbag over a 6 foot gate (I assume, have never done it myself) so probably some youngish idiot. Can't get over the amount of moronity in this world. No mortal need for glass and rotting food to be in a bin sack, that's what we have glass recycling banks and compost bins for.

I was having a bit of a strop at the weekend. Had noticed that a new(ish) neighbour had placed a small kitchen food caddy outside their door. These were issued by the council a couple of years ago for food waste collection but the scheme was cancelled before it got going (dunno why) but there are still some of these caddies floating about. This happened before this neighbour moved in, so perhaps they thought, have caddy, will use it.

It sat and sat for about 3 weeks and I wondered how long they'd leave it but it wasn't my business so I stayed out of it. Went out for about an hour and came back and the darned thing was in front of my flat, leaking stinky ick. I put it back where it had been for the previous 3 weeks, chucked a bucket of water over the ick and went on about my business.

 Blow me, but the next morning, I opened my front door to find the rank object IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DOORSTEP. I was cross. Went to neighbour and got the boyf, asked to speak to her but she'd gone to work so explained this wasn't mine and I didn't want it on my step. Put it where it had been for the past 3 weeks (tempted to put it somewhere else ;)) and chucked another bucket of water over the stinking stuff which had leaked out. Not pleased at all. It's staying away.

I spend so much effort in taking my rubbish up to the compost Dalek on the allotment and someone has the blinking cheek to leave that festering grossness on my step......grrrrr! And double grrrr!!!!!!!

Most of my clothes go back years and I won't need much in the future just myself to think of and I think it's easier for men anyhow, It's charity shops now...and more keeping warm than fashion...
