HH I'm so sorry. Is the £100 the headline number? What I mean is, is that what will actually come off your net income by the time you've claimed all the credits you are allowed?
Fuddle, sounds like you might be better off getting a prepayment certificate for your meds. Sometimes it works out cheaper to get a series of three monthly ones with a gap in between but time your repeat prescriptions so that you get another lot just before the certificate expires. Even if it doesn't make much difference with your regular meds, it means that anything else you need is free.
There was a very big thread on here a few years back about wally trollies. Based on that I bought a Rolser which is the Rolls Royce of shopping trollies. It is very good. I lacked the nerve to get a psychedelic one or a cow print one so got a plain blue one. Farmers' markets are urban chic now so tell people that's what you are getting it for. To find the thread, try doing a forum search for "wally trolly"It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Up at the allotment this evening to water evrything and I noticed that the lower leaves on my Pink Fir Apple potaoes have got a few leaves with bright yellow edges. It doesn't look like blight - a) it's too early and too dry and b) not black spots and they look quite healthy otherwise. They haven't flowered yet so it can't be that they have ripened either. The Charlottes and the maincrops don't seem to be affected. Has anyone got any idea what the problem might be? Otherwise I'll just try giving them a good feed.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Definitely do this - by careful timing I can get 4 months worth of prescriptions out of a 3 month certificate so pay 3 x 3 monthly charges instead of the yearly certificate. My surgery is totally OK with this. If you expect to be on something for a year and also expect to have several other prescriptions in that year even an annual certificate will save money. You can order the certificate online and it arrives very quickly.
Hester - I'm just appalled by what your employers have done. Not just the wages thing but their attitude in general to what you have had to put up with.
Hope lurgy sufferers are getting better and that Softstuff's dad's condition is identified soon."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Thanks all for the well-wishes and potential ideas for diagnosis. The tilt-table in particular sounds like a good idea (they've never mentioned one of those), so I'll be mentioning that to mum. I think part of the problem is when they see he has asbestosis, they don't tend to want to do as much.... I'm not a fan of their local hospital.
Oh Hester, so sorry to hear your news. I really didn't think it could be that, you've had so little luck at work I figured something had to pick up. Your employers all need a swift kick in the pants to wake up.
Boy do I wish they had prepayment certificates here. I agree you should grab one Fuddle. Mum wouldn't manage without hers.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Softstuff, my DD has had problems falling down...at first we thought it was break through seizures, but after lots of tests, concluded it was her blood pressure dropping. She had her BP taken, sitting up, standing and lying down. BP dropped when she was lying down. I agree that when medical people see you already have a diagnosis for something, they focus on that.
Fuddle, if your income is below a certain amount you can apply for help with prescriptions etc. Can't remember the name of the form right now, but will have a look. eta: http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/Prescriptioncosts.aspx
Kate, can your letters on the lap top be prised off safely? Mine is an Acer and the individual keys can be taken off and put back on again. Not all laptops do that I know, and you have to be careful, but it may make it easier to clean.0 -
Byatt's sig applies to me today.
DS and I went off to Ricoh Arena, Coventry to see the wonderful, amazing Coldplay. Man they were good - REALLY good. THey must have been cos, even though everything around the concert was bl00dy awful, both DS and I came back buzzing (and not just in our ears!) We decided to park at railway station, thinking Park and Ride would be easier and quicker - it wasn't, we took some sarnies and drink thinking it would be really expensive with long queues inside - which it was. We found that out because they wouldn't let us take anything in - had to chuck it all in the bin outside. We thought the Support acts would be good - they weren't they were dire, decided the A45 would be the quickest way home - it wasn't as they'd shut a slip road onto the motorway. Grr we ended up getting in after 1.00am (and I only live 20 odd miles away!). DS has had to have 2 hours off school as I just couldn't wake him and he'd have been fit for nothing. School aren't happy but what's to do? In fairness I thought it was half term when I booked the tickets.
But - it was worth it all. I am a massive fan and they didn't disapoint - so v. tired but happy today. I wonder how much marking will get done? Half tempted to give up and do house chores and do marking when my head is in a better place - i.e. had more than 4 1/2 hours sleep.
Coffee is a good starting point, however.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Havnt posted on here for ages and ages. Real life has been getting in the way!
Hester - I had a huge drop in wages last October (local authority) I lost about £80 a month. I appealed and everyting but nothing and you get told your lucky to have a job! It affects your pension too. I made up the shortfall by working extra hours in my Sunday job, I was really lucky in that respect. That all stopped in April though and then my main job had a huge restructure. Cut long story short I was lucky and got a job in the new structure and its full time too. It was all mega stressful though, nearly cracked up.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Hester
Could you start charging when you bring in home baking?
Ten pence a slice would mount up and you can say it is to pay for ingredients since the pay cut. Hug to you and kick up bum smiley for employer.
Nice day so going to make cheese and tomato puff pastry squares
with salad for tonight and eat in the garden to make the most of the weather. DD has gone off to work with a couple of home made mini quiches for her lunch as a change from salad or a filled roll etc. and youngest has just gone to school to discuss exams etc but will be back this afternoon to revise by me asking her questions etc.
