Congrats on sofa shannanigans GQ. I have a reasonable sized lounge with a square bay window & have 3 sofas, all second hand! 2 match up, cream cotton loose covers, one is a 3 seater & one is a 2 seater, bargain from intranet where I used to work, £100 for both. Covers wash nicely, once a year at local launderette as arms do get a bit grubby but keep throws over most part of them. Bit of a struggle to get covers back on but get there in the end. Manage to do cushion covers in own machine though.
Afternoon peeps.
Nicepeach, I read a tip (might even have been in Shirley Conran's Superwoman) that you can put cushion covers back on when slightly damp and they have a bit more give and are easier to get on. HTH.
:j Am I loving this weather or am I loving this weather......it's HOT and I keep spontaneously-grinning. I've been running about a bit this morning and exchanging emails and calls and the short version is that the old sofa will depart this pad tomorrow evening instead of today. We had to wait for someone's Dad's van to be available.
Penny-Pincher!! Hope that your hospital stay goes as well as can be expected and be sure to come back to us when you are well enough and keep is posted on your doings. Pleased that the car is behaving itself.
Softstuff, we all know that you throw the crocks at your hubby, no good pretending it's medically-induced klutziness (only kidding.........:p;)). Damn shame about the cup. Do you think it was lonesome for it's mates and decided to join them in the great kiln in the sky? I was astonished once to open my glasses cabinet and take out a glass to find that it had sheared off all the way around the circumference about 0.5 cm below the rim. That was a first and there was no explanation for it as it hadn't been bashed or subject to thermal shock. It went to the recycling bank to be reborn as a jam jar.
I'm just finishing a cuppa before going lottiewards for a few hours of graft. I have three strawberry beds. I have not seen two of them for some months and the docks and nettles are getting uppity so I may have to start a rescue bid.
Hope we're all getting some sun today ; think it's about 22 at the mo. Laters, GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Well I can say I've joined you gardeners today, unfortunately it wasn't the productive, enjoyable gardening you all are so lucky to do... it was front garden weeding. I detest doing out those borders. I've spent hours and it still looks shabby.
I've had a lovely afternoon with my friend. She is lovely. We get on really well even though she's a good 30+ years older than me. It was a real tonic. I think I'm more mature than my peers which is maybe why they tend to grate on my nerves.
I'm off over the fields tonight with our pup. This weather is so great!0 -
Penny-pincher I hope all goes well at the hospital and they get those meds into you fast enough to help you and you come home bouncing with energy and feeling good.
Madartha am so glad you are getting out and having some sun, its been a long, long winter for you up there.
Here sun is still shining but since it came out there has been a wind around that has a cold bite to it and today its stronger than ever so even standing in full sunshine when it blows you want to reach for a woolie which is most annoying, so took fleeces again off plants but they are again back on them, maybe one evening I will be able to sit out in garden and enjoy the plants instead of sheets of white.
Not been shopping or anything this week apart from dentist yesterday - he reckons another two teeth are loosing, but hoping he can save them and I have to have 3 fillings so booked in for next Tuesday when in funds again. Been many a year since I had a filling and must remember to tell him no adrenalin I do not want an repeat of what happened at emergency dentist.
Am just glad I do have a nice stock in so although it would have been nice to go shopping and stock up some more or nip up to MR S in afternoons to see what whoopsies they have I do not need to for a bit yet - we are eating well on what I have in, but cannot go on for ever so son was moaning on phone how tight money is was warned he can pay me back what he owes slowly but there is no more money I can lend him. Still no more about he coming here but he is still talking of them separating.
I have hospital on Friday, see if they can do anything about my bladder, not holding my breath though. Opps just remembered now they wanted me to keep a chart on every bit of fluid in and out for 4 days before going and I totally forgot, oh well guess can at least do for rest of day and tomorrow and Friday before I go.
Typical hubbys work offered him extra hours on Friday, but what it would cost in taxi fare to hospital would be more that he would earn so he had to turn it down.
Well guess I better see about evening mealNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

We've been enjoying the sunshine here, OH as had the last days off and this afternoon we took the kids to the local farm park. I am now officially cream crackered. Bath night tonight as DD has grass stains all over her knees from crawling all over the place. She fed the cowcows and cuddled the gingerpe (DD's name for guinea pigs) so one happy little girl. DS took more notice and enjoyed himself too.
The garden is looking good after I finally got into it at the weekend. Just need to acquire myself a few more plug plants as I was too late planting up this year.
Amazing - our little bit of the world has had the lowest temperatures in Britain the last couple of winters followed by weird freezing rain, newsworthy amounts of rain and today it has apparently been the hottest place in Yorkshire! Come and visit us for odd weather!0 -
This is what me and my OH are worried about. We're moving to a flat with a very narrow staircase and somehow need to get a corner sofa (it does split but is still massive) in that we got off gumtree. Taking out a window isn't really an option on the second floor. I'm secretly hoping it doesn't fit so we can get a "new" one as I hate it and there are lush ones selling on ebay near us for under £100
The best thing for me about living around such posh villages is 1) people always seem to be redecorating and flogging nearly new fancy stuff 2) everyone's got a horse trailer they let you borrow
Yea I agree you cant half pick up a nice or nearly new sofa and chairs real cheap on ebay and they are just perfect for £100,also agree so many people change the colour of their walls so they HAVE to have new sofas, furniture etc......................And why are there so many cream furniture up for sale.? people say they need a new one cos the cream one dont match, uhh, cream go with anything ...................Well let us know if the sofa will or wont fit through the doors please............Hope you get your wish:D.............
Beautiful weather again today , just what all the country needs, dont half lift your mood up.....:D0 -
I remember when cream leather sofas were the in thing and then all of a sudden it was brown ones. I have to admit our sofas are DFS brown leather ones and they're 6 years old. They still look as new even with two kids and dog. I dare not tell you what they cost new in the days when we were 'flush'. Still, a blooming great investment I guess and my colours stay beige/cream/browns with accents changing. I went through a red accent phase and now changing to mulberry vases and candles with the odd new cushion when I can get them/make them.
Well I'm having a relaxation night and spending it crocheting. I'm using up all my odds and s*ds of wool to make a house coat for me to wear when I'm indoors in the autumn Feels strange sitting here in my pj's, crocheting when there's sun streaming through the window! Have a nice night0 -
I'm a bit peeved. Bought a nice new pair of pants a couple of weeks back to replace a pair that thanks to my weight loss fell down whilst done up. Wore them yesterday and already they're loose.... I have no idea how thin I'm going to get (since it's not deliberate weight loss, but due to meds and prescribed dietary changes), can't buy things tight because I'm not supposed to have anything tight around my waist and can't wear a belt. I think I just have to buy pants once every couple of months until I'm done. Shirts don't matter much since my boobs don't shrink. Sag yes, shrink no.
How about using a pair of brace's?£71.93/ £180.000 -

I suspect you may be on cue with the idea of it missing its mates, since there's a lot more of my crockery in the kiln in the sky than there is in my cupboard! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one things randomly break for, I was starting to wonder. How about using a pair of brace's?
I quite fancy a pair of dungarees, but have been told in no uncertain terms that are too unfashionable even for me.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
An update about my ill-fated mug, Wedgwood just called me and if I send them a photo of the stress fracture they'll send me another. Very nice lady, very apologetic and helpful, my faith in the brand is actually higher than it was before this now! It isn't often you get prompt helpful customer service anymore, but they exceeded my expectations.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

Elastic waistbands are your friendsOr draw-strings. I hardly ever wear skirts I must admit, but loose floaty styles with elastic waistbands are very accomodating. I just treated myself to a pair of harem pants with a shirred elastic waist, on the basis that the should pretty much fit whatever size my waist is, as it goes up and down on a daily basis!
