    SDG:
We were burgled some years ago and they left a pile of...um...poo on the patio. Police said it's because they get excited, med me and we were lucky they didn't do it in the middle of the bed.

That happened when my parents were burgled many, many years ago. Not only did they poo on the bed, they used some of it to write rude words on the bedroom wall - absolutely gross._pale_ My SIL and I had to clean it up for them, my poor Mum was mortified. I'm surprised she was ever able to sleep in that room again. The little sh*tbags have no idea of the harm they cause.

Beautiful day here again. Sadly I think I've overdone it on the gardening front the last few days and have aggravated an old back injury. £50 at the osteopath this afternoon AND I'll have to go again next week.:eek: So much for saving by growing my own veg - ho hum. :o

:( Oooohh, that is so gross. My heart goes out to you. Did they ever catch the villains? I hope so. I think burglary is treated far too lightly, when I look at the sentences in the newspapers.

Hope your back is soon more comfortable. Gardening can be hazardous to the health as it's just so tempting to do a little bit more than is wise.

Mccolloch, is your trike a pedal version? I can't ride a bike, and my DD suggested a trike...:D

    ?

Byatt Yes it is. Mine was a competition prize 10 years ago. Sorry for making you wait for the answer. I can't ride a bike either and this is fantastic. Far better than a bike as you can carry a huge amount of shopping on it. I have a plastic box and karabiner clips attached to the seat springs at the back to hold my shopping on. I also use a backpack and it is possible to cycle reasonably safely with a bag on the handlebars, in extremis.
My trike must have saved me £100s if not £1000s in taxi fares over the last decade.

    Evening all:)

SDG So very sorry to hear your bad news. Sadly, I know exactly how you feel due to personal experience. Glad Barcla*ys came up trumps for you though, the last thing you need is more aggro. in a situation like that. Hope it didn't have too bad an effect on DS exam.

GQ 10 on the comfometer - RESULT! Shame about the whiff, try a liberal dose of bicarb, bicarb, bicarb & more bicarb sprinkled over cushions & in all nooks & crannies (ooer missus!) & leave as long as you can tolerate it before vaccing off & re-applying if necessary. Also saddle soap on the leather surfaces will not only clean & moisturise but has a pleasant aroma too. DON'T be tempted to go to a saddlers/equine store for said product, any good old-fashioned cobblers (more oooers missus!) worth their salt will stock it. Did you say you sofa has drawers or did I dream it? Maybe try a liberal sprinkling of an essential oil in those (can't beat sweet smelling drawers - O Lord, I'm turning into Les Dawson!) or some lavender pomander type thingies.

Softstuff Do have a mooch around to see if you can find some wrap dresses in charity shops. I always wear a full length slip under mine which elimates any change of "spillage" in the boobage area & reduces the risk of exposing undergarments on a gusty day & also eliminates the need for a cami/vest. I have black & nude slips from M*S which will go with most things & they are very natty with & dual purpose v neck option on one side or a lacy higher square neck option on the other IYSWIM.

We were blessed with another fantastic, sunny day & I opted for spending most of the morning lolling on a sunbed, in a bikini - stop sniggering at the back! & then dismantled my lovely portable greenhouse now it's empty, cleaned bird poop off garden table & chairs (can't stand much more of this glamorous lifestyle!), did poo patrol in rabbit house & general pottering (i.e. wandering around looking for garage keys, mis-laid hoe, dustpan & brush etc.).

Anyway, there I was having a lovely time on the sunbed, reading "The Dalesman" & I spotted something "interesting" flying around in the sky. Hmm, I thought, that looks a bit like a Sparrowhawk to me, isn't it funny how I've never seen one round here before, especially as I have a massive colony of sparrows, pooping all over my garden furniture & living in the beech hedge under my kitchen window. Then WHOOOOOOSH!!! Sparrowhawk lookalikey dropped from the sky like a stone RIGHT PAST MY EAR - & plummeted into the beech hedge :eek::eek: Cue much screeching & screaming of spuggies! Didn't appear to be any casualties as it emerged "empty beaked" but left a mahooosive hole in my freshly sprouting beech hedge. I just could not believe my eyes! It was a truly spectacular sight & I'm presuming it was a real Sparrowhawk!

As if that wasn't enough excitement for one day - I then witnessed another equally splendid phenomenon. DS18 casually wandered out into the garden, squinting against the glare of the sunlight & announced "I'm off upstairs..." Nothing unusual there then. Quickly followed by "...to change my bed":eek::eek:

I'm still trying to decide which of these events has amazed me more... & the icing on the cake was that I got the discarded bed linen washed & dried this afternoon. As I said, a truly extraordinary ordinary day.

Hope everyone is well, seems quite quiet on here over past couple of days, hope it's because everyone is busy enjoying the sunshine. More to come according to weatherman. Bring it on I say. We've had the usual dose of sea-fret this evening & turned really grey & cold by 9pm but that's the price you pay for living by the sea.

Thanks to all who post, I love reading. Off up the "Wooden Hill" now to the "Land of Nod". x

SDG, what a nightmare.. I do feel for you. Thank goodness you had the good sense (and the cash) to be insured.

Today... I cannot garden any more, I only have a front flower bed the width of the house and a wee patio garden c 14' x 14' but it needs some maintenance and it got it today courtesy of a young student who has finished his studies for the academic year.

Byatt, sorry to hear you're knackered yet having to deal with DWP. They demand too much energy at the best of times. I sometimes imagine a utopia where you ring up and they say "Hello Mrs Smith, I remember your case, how are you and how can I help?". People have been hospitalised for imagining less crazy things, so I'll stop there. And I'll check out M&S whilst I'm over for those pants, thanks for the suggestion.

Stiltwalker, there were certainly a lot of maxis around over the summer, but they tend not to be ones you can wear a full bra with (my bras don't have dainty straps you wouldn't mind showing!). It's heading for winter here now too, so a bit chilly for one really. But thanks for the thought. I still think dungarees would be lovely.... but no-one agrees with me. :o

Oh god SDG, what a shocking morning for you, so sorry to hear it. I'm glad you're all OK and the insurers are being helpful. Have a virtual cup of tea and slice of cake from me.

GQ, yours is the second vote for wrap dress, so I'll be trying one on when I'm over. No heels to go with though, thanks to the leg doodad. I am wondering though if I could squeeze the offending leg into a knee high boot, that would look nice with a dress. It's sometimes a real !!!!!! dressing to suit various physical ailments, though I realise I have it a lot easier than most. I found that incense covers cigarette smoke (or burnt food smell) rather well if you didn't mind trading one smoke for another.

Nicepeach, a slip sounds nice too. It seems I might be shopping whilst over, someone better warn the Charity shops I'm coming. My mother has also booked us on a coach trip to Cheshire Oaks, where it is guaranteed we'll raise hell (though not guaranteed we'll buy anything).

My task today is to rest up some so I'm ok to fly next week. So if anyone could bring me a nice cup of camomile I'd be awfully grateful. :p

Fantastic story Nicepeach... you described it so well. Probably was a sparrowhawk, they have been doing well for many years thanks to a healthy diet of lazy, fat feral pigeons.
I was reading a book to review for Amazon (The Old Ways) this morning. The writer describes falling asleep on a hill summit in Southern Spain, to wake suddenly, feeling "watched."
The watcher was a vulture circling overhead, viewing him with interest.....

SDG, sorry for your loss but thank goodness you are all safe - big hugs to all.

Am covered in nettle stings :mad: but we have a nice big bare patch in the back garden and supposedly it should ease my arthritis - fat chance of that. OH had a long long nap this afternoon so have been washing anything that stood still long enough - I did warn the cat about lying around :rotfl:

Dd and co went to Dovedale to little mans daddy's favourite waterfall and he won the award for daddy of the year for carrying little man on his shoulders for ages then sitting him in the shade with his feet in the water and a pile of pebbles to throw in. I was so pleased they had such a fab trip and very little cost just a picnic and some petrol.

Going to Mr T tomorrow to grab some of the cheap salady stuff as mines not grown yet. Got some shallots and onions this morning at the garden centre for 50p a bag so am going to pop them in somewhere, cant lose at that price - every bit helps. Made a slug trap out of a bowl with a dash of yeast and sugar in warm water as some one said its not the beer they want its the yeast - I will beat the little bu**ers if not I will have a very bready smelling garden :o

So sorry to hear of the burglary, that must be horrible. Would make me very very angry.
Re the sparrowhawk, I am totally mad on birds of prey but Spars arent my favs at all, too mad and too murderous. But all hawks & falcons are awesome, far and away better equipped to survive than the SAS lol . No nonsense birds. I loved when we kept hawks.
Have opened an ebay shop for the soap but think it will take a wee while to get going, people jsut don't have any spare money.
Waiting to see what will happen to Greece and how it will affect us.
Not sure what to do re the garden now, as the total lack of a Spring really put me off, plus most of the seeds were green for the hens who are now gone. Season might be too short to bother with now.
Suppose at some point I'll need to get off this couch but I really really cant be assed... :)
