I'm hearing on preppers forums that milk is to go up in price later this year. Has anybody heard anything on this???0

SDG so sorry to hear about the burglary. It is a horrid feeling to know someone has been in your home. Glad you had insurance. It has made me a bit more vigilant about closing windows.
Mardatha people always have a bit of cheerup money so you might do well in trickles and trickles turn into rivers eventually
Ginnyknit I find nettle tea helped reduce the amount of painkillers I needed and since I have been on my low starch diet I have gradually got a lot better. The inflamation has gone from my hip joint. I still get leg pain but that is the muscles and a sensitive nerve. Hopefully the nerve will heal and with excercise the muscles will recover. I think they have suffered because I was in too much pain to do much. Another thing is I have lost 1st9lbs since I started this diet back in December:T:j
I am going to get dressed in some summer clothes in a minute and enjoy the day.0 -

Hi Mar, I haven't heard anything specific but then I don't hang on preppers' forums but I've been reading for at least the past 2 years in the agricultural section of the newspaper that the price supermarkets are paying the producers is actually below cost price and a lot of dairy farmers have been forced out of business. And not just little companies, either, the casualties have been firms which have award-winning herds and have been trading for generations. Effectively, they'd been subsidising the supermarkets and had finally hit the wall.
I'm wondering if this phemomenon may have reached a critical mass and the amount of suppliers have reduced to the point where the prices will have to climb? Just speculation, y'unnerstand, based on observations. Could be sticky for a lot of us as milk is such a major ingredient inc in a lot of things where you wouldn't expect to find it, as anyone who has tried to live dairy-free can testify.
:j We are now having the 4th glorious sunny day on the trot. FOUR. I cannot believe my eyes, it's just like early summer out there. I'm loving it, roll on the weekend.
Re hawks, I agree they're awesome. The sparrowhawks are quite bold. My old neighbour (titchy suburban garden with only a small patch of grass) was astonished when a s.hawk plummetted out of the sky onto a woodpigeon right in front of her. Whoomph and the feathers flew. I've seen a hawk take a feral pigeon in the middle of another city and eat it on the pavement. It had jesses on and one of the passers-by recognised it and called the hawker; it had been flown against pigeons in another part of the city and had been startled by some passing seagulls and had gone off to do some freelancing. Incredible shock for the person whose hair it parted on the way down. I've also seen hawking displays at country fayres where the birds haven't returned to the handler, which must be inconvenient as well as embarrassing.:p:o
Nicepeach, thanks for the anti-pong tips. I've been so busy I haven't even explored my drawers (ooo-errr missus!)
Och well, time to head to the salt mine. Have a good one, ladies.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

My fridge broke at some point between last night and this morning, trying to find a replacement. Luckily there wasn't much in there because saturday nights are shopping night. It's lasted 7 years so I can't really moan.0

Afternoon Everyone
Pardon my langugue, but today had a sh*t start. DS1 came upstairs this morning to tell us that the ps3 was missing. We came running downstairs to find the windows open, the ps3, my laptop, mine and DH's phones and my handbag missing.:mad::mad:
Thankfully they didn't take anything irreplaceable and no one was hurt, so we got off lightly. Barclays insurance have been fantastic and got everything sorted in one call. The police came very quickly as well and I have no complaints there either.
DH is working out what laptop to get to replace mine, so that has calmed him down.
DS1 has exams today, but I've contacted his college and they are going to put a note of special consideration on his papers and he will get a few extra points to account for any distraction he might have.
I'm doing ok at the moment. I will probably get angry later but at least I get to go handbag shopping.
I'm making proper chips for dinner as a treat and have a ham cooking at the moment to go with them.
So all in all, it could have been worse.
Take care everyone xxx
SDG that is terrible, what goe through peoples minds :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: I really hope the little barstewards get what's coming to them.
I know it's little solace but the Police will often have a walk around your house and point out any weak points in security. Personally I believe keeping a marble rolling pin to hand is the OS solution to burglers but you might get in some trouble.0 -
I still think dungarees would be lovely.... but no-one agrees with me.
I used to wear dungarees a lot and still have a pair. However since becoming ill and needing to get to the loo quickly they are very fiddly and not at all suitable. Im also reminded of this fabulous scene...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hi everyone, Havent been on for awhile.
Have been busy between hospital and pain management clinic that by the time I get home I just want to lay down.
I have a break now for two weeks.
SDG Sorry to hear about the burglary. That is just horrible.
With not being on here for a while I am behind on everyones news.
So hugs and prayers were ever they are needed. Will read back but it will take a few hours.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weather its so lovely to see the sun.
Will get a cuppa and start reading back so will be here awhile53/200 Jettison in June0 -
Oooohh, that is so gross. My heart goes out to you. Did they ever catch the villains? I hope so. I think burglary is treated far too lightly, when I look at the sentences in the newspapers.
Hope your back is soon more comfortable. Gardening can be hazardous to the health as it's just so tempting to do a little bit more than is wise.
GQ - yes they eventually charged the little s*ds a couple of months later. Just a couple of teenagers, apparently well know to Mr Plod, put up a sob story about their hard life and got off with a telling off and a small fine. In the meantime my parents insurance paid out several thousand pounds for the damage (the little b*ggers had also tried to set fire to the living room to cover their tracks but, fortunately, it didn't take properly) and it took my poor folks at least a year to get over the trauma.:mad::mad::mad: - sorry, rant over.
My back is a little better today but am under strict instructions from the OH to stay out of the garden. So I had to put on a disguise when I snook out there earlier.I promise I only did a bit. I put in a small row of carrots and planted the courgette plant which I bought as a baby 2 weeks ago and was starting to take over the porch  On GQ's advice I have some beans soaking with the intention of putting them in over the weekend - might persuade OH to do that for me. We shall see.
Right, off to get another glass of water and will sit and read my book for a while.
Have a lovely day.0 -
*takes a deep breath* Many, many thanks to Possession, kidcat, anguk, maryb,Byatt, fuddle,GreyQueen,Hobsons Choice, PAH, mcculloch29, ginnyknit and mardatha.
Bobbykins- your poor MIL and poor you having to clean it up. Some people should be put into stocks.
NicePeach- thank you and I'm sorry you have gone through this too.
Mmmmm yummy cake Softstuff
grandma247- I'm glad you are checking your windows, although I hate to be the cause of worry in anyone.
I'm doing ok today. I had a bit of a wobble last night, but a plate of chips and a very large rum and coke helped with that. I'm just trying to remember all the bits of plastic I have in my wallet and which ones need replacing or cancelling. All the bank cards are dealt with so no worries on that score.
DH has just got home so we are going shopping to buy replacement stuff.
Take care and thank you all again xxxxx0
