  • BYATT - we have a pair of dunnocks that are known as the peck-peck birdies because they see their reflection in the glass and peck at it as if it was another dunnock. They (I think it must be several generations of one family) seem to be around every year and nest in the hedge at the front. Docky says he hopes you won't be lonely when your DD is away as he hopes Bess is with you. Cheers Lyn.(And him too of course xx.)

Years ago I used to have a group of blue tits feeding on peanuts, hung on the washing line near my kitchen window. When the peanuts ran out, they used to tap on the window with their beaks - I never told anyone because I was sure they'd think I was mad!

Blue tits seemed to suffer a decline around here shortly after that, and I've only just started seeing them on the feeders again now. No window tappers yet - but I haven't let the feed run out for a long time either!

Can anyone explain, preferably in words of one syllable, the likely effects of the Greece / France election results? Are we doomed?;)
No idea whether we are more or less doomed than before :p and I'm with Smileyt on the growth thing. I think maybe we need an alternative way of looking at economics.

I'm not looking forward to my work trip to Athens at the end of the month though... apparently it's not a nice place to be at the moment.

Ahhh, the reflection thing makes sense. It seems quite a young bird, and I think it's a blue tit. Thanks for all the help.

Lyn and Docky, yes Bess will be with me so that's good. :)

I think as far as we are concerned here in the UK it's probably a bit like a swan. Not much happening on the surface but frantic paddling underneath. They (the powers that be) will be trying to make sure we are not left holding the parcel if the Euro collapses but hoping that it hangs together for as long as possible because the pound would strengthen immediately if the Euro disintegrates and that would kill our industry because it would make exports very expensive and imports very cheap. (It was the strong pound that did for manufacturing jobs in the 1980s much more than anything Thatcher did). Of course the pound would weaken again as soon as growth starts up again in the former Eurozone but by then the damage could be done.

I think that is a more likely scenario than queues outside banks. But who knows? Best thing we can do is keep doing what we're doing and preparing to weather whatever comes along.

:D OMG, the sun has come out. I can barely believe my eyes. It chucked it down all night and there is standing water on pavements and roads but the sun is struggling out and the temperatire is climbing, not to mention the humidity, which must be pushing 100%.

Weather is still a bit iffy so I'm going to drag clothes for all degrees of precipitation and windchill up to the lottie with me and aim to do a little work. Have been busily de-cluttering and pawing thru my "treasures" (said with irony) in order to free up a few square centimeters in my home. I expect I'm not the only one who has to shop with a tape-measure in hand..........

Hope everyone has a good day. GQ x

I wouldn't know if there were sun or not as i am stuck in the bowels of the earth invigilating an exam. Luckily it is a computing one, so I can legitimately play with a PC for a couple of hours. Only got 3 students so easy to keep an eye on them!

I have volunteered for one again tomorrow on the basis that if i volunteer for a reasonable exam, they can't give me a carp one.

But shhhh - don't tell.

I finally managed to wade through the ironing pile last night - DS (13) asked if he could have a go, so I gave him some shirt ironing basics. i'd rather he had started with t - shirts but i only had a shirt and thought i'd strike while the iron was hot (see what i did there? :rotfl:) At least he doesn't assume it's a woman's job - but then his dad does it sometimes so it's a good example.

When my girls were younger I had au pairs to pick them up from school. When I die they will put in my obituary "She taught half the 18 year-olds in Eastern Europe how to iron a shirt" I sometimes feel I deserve a mention in the honours list for Services to Education.:rotfl:

As for the girls themselves now they are older, well they can iron - but that doesn't stop them wheedling me into ironing something for them at short notice
