A little bit of sun here but very cold - still, I have at least shaken off yesterday's total CBA mode and moved into partial CBA which results in at least an attempt on the [STRIKE]jungle[/STRIKE] garden - grass getting cut today in between rests indoors and a couple of loads of washing on the line so far!
Managed to keep spending down to a minimum - weekly shop was £35 and I haven't been out to spend on charity shops this week (although I did buy a couple of bits of fabric on ebay)
I don't think I'll be going out tomorrow so hopefully another NSD. I think it's going to rain tomorrow so I hope I will get a bit of quilting/patchwork done.
Must try to plant the potatoes today - they're maincrop so should be okay. I can't believe how cold it is for May. Hope everyone else has a good day... fresh air has improved my mood a lot, even if the sunshine is a bit sporadic!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Afternoon All
Well we did it - first night went well, was relatively quiet as expected, which was good as we had plenty of time to get ourselves organised.
I was rather thrown by fact that most people here think Haddock (only fish we sell) is smoked - "is that the yellow fish?" and had to explain the difference, by which time they had decided to have something else :rotfl:.
Best seller of the night - Home-made mushy peas!
Yesterday was manic - despite lists of things to do, loads of stuff got forgotten and there was a lot of last minute chasing about. We were crackered when we got home, not helped by Cat deciding that 5.50 am is a good time to get us up!
It was a lovely sunny but cold day yesterday, but the rain has come and the day is grey. We don't expect to do much trade tonight but its all good practice.
Hugs to all those needing them, I know some of you are really going through the mill, and it's just not fair!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
Really pleased to hear it went well Mrs Chip. Long may it continue!0

:j:beer::j Congratulations, Mrs Chip! Pleased that the launch went well despite the dodgy weather. Errrr, should I ask about the mankinis?:rotfl:
My Freecycler has just picked up at the time she promised, so there is a little joy spread from my cupboard to hers. I do love Freecycle when it works but every now and again I have a run of no-shows and general dithering and feel like jacking it in permanently. Must go round up the other thingy I meant to post today. Don't understand how stuff keeps going out, not coming in, and great prairies of space aren't opening up in its wake.
:doh:Oh, that might be because my flat is only about 240 sq foot!

Mrs C, I thought it was this weekend but couldn't remember if it was Monday you were doing it. So glad it went well, and isn't haddock a better choice than cod? I know my dad would treat himself to a haddock every so often.
GQ, I always get freecycler's who take up residence and talk non stop! I'm not sure how many square feet I have, but I also have had loads of stuff leave, and it looks no different, not a bit!0 -

LMAO, just had Freecycler Numbero 2 pick-up the second item from the hidey-hole outside. She's sent a thank-you email, too. It's my preferred method if the item is relatively low-value and small enough. If not, I just meet them at the door with the item bagged and hand it over with a big smile. Takes about 4 seconds!
Now just need Numero 3 item collected. Offered it to this person, said she could collect anytime until 7 pm, then no reply to say she would, meanwhile have 6 others chasing. Hope she does come, or says no longer interested, because some people just leave you in limbo. I'm happiest if I have a single taker for each item as if you have lots, you have to choose and try that's a bit like a beauty contest..............:rotfl:Had a mad time with something of Mum's which I re-homed via my network; wanters went over 22 and more kept asking despite my having posted a TAKEN as soon as it was.......just goes to show what a lot of need there is out there. It's good to share.
I have had the tinned foods trollies out from under my bed and whizzed around under there with a vacuum cleaner and de-fluffed. I do this every 2-3 months and it still gets fluffy. I have a tiled floor in there. Well, I have a tiled floor everywhere but there are a couple of my handmade rugs in the living room to soften things up a bit.
Re floor area, I was round a pal's the other week and calculated that you could put my entire flat (4 small rooms and a short 75cm wide hall) inside her lounge! But it's home sweet home. And only 5 minutes' walk from the Central Library.........:p
OK, gonna go get some food sorted out. I have cooked down a lot of Bramleys and am allowing them to cool and will make pastry and apple pies this evening.

GQ, my BIL has a conservatory that in bigger than my entire house upstairs & down, so I know what you mean.
I managed to get yesterdays washing dry by lunchtime & then put today's washing out, we have had sun here for the last hour so I'm hopeful it will dry as it soon warms up under the washing line cover.
I've just noticed that there are buds on my runner bean plants, they are dwarf plants, so are growing in a trough on the decking under cover.

GQ, they were items of furniture, I had dragged one piece to the front door, but that didn't stop the bloke coming in and chatting for half an hour!
The holiday home we were in this past week was bigger than my cottage! It felt positively palatial! Hope the woman turned up.0 -
Hester, I noticed this last year, too; your veggies are very advanced. Are you very sheltered? We're still having frosts and no one here will dare put a runner bean outside for about another 3 weeks. I'm in the warmer part of the UK, too.
Well, three apple pies have just gone in. Was talking to Mum about the very successful batch of pastry I made last time with soft marg that was labelled as suitable for baking as well as spreading and she reckons that means cake-baking not pastry, for that you need hard fats. Is this so? The pastry was fantastic, very light and crisp. Beginner's luck perhaps.;)
I'm not a brilliant cook, as you may have gathered, approaching it asI do from the end-user perspective; I like to eat but I don't enjoy fiddling around in the kitchen particularly. Howsomever, I have my pinny on, having found it when I disembowelled the airing cupboard yesterday, so am feeling proper Old Style at the moment.

ETA Byatt, she's coming on Tuesday, now. And I've been in hotel rooms bigger than my flat and with more storage. It's a wonder I made it back from the mountains of Bulgaria, I tell ya. The SHELVES in those wardrobes; I get all teary about leaving them behind whenever I think of it. As to lingering to chat - people don't linger in Shoebox Towers, it's quite a scary place at times. I've got pretty good nerves, plus most of the miscreants are known to me already......Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

So a goodly bit of gardening got done, laundry duly juggled, a quota of marking, I'm still very CBA about the ironing - and 2 glasses of wine aren't helping. Still tomorrow is going to be yeuch weather wise, so plenty of time for that.I wanna be in the room where it happens0
