Hi Guys!
OH managed to get a lift with a friend to local Tesco Express and Morrisons. He got some yellow stickered items, but they don't seem to be as good as they used to be:
2 x3 small irish beef steaks reduced from £4 to £1.50 (frozen)
2 x 2 small lamb steaks reduced from £4 to £1.50 (froze)
Ham in date till 4th reduced from £1.45 to 54p
Pizza reduced from £3.75:eek: to 45p (frozen)
2 x Minced beef slices reduced from £2 to 29p
2 x 2 Cornish Pasties reduced from £1.90 to 29p (frozen)
Cheese straws:A reduced to 15p
2 x 4 pack multi bagels reduced from £1.25 to 25p (frozen)
2 x 6 pancakes reduced from75p to 15p
Spagetti Bologneise ready meal (posh one) £3.50 to 50p (frozen)
2 x 4 wholemeal baps reduced to 20p
Muffins to 20p for 4
2 x Warburton loaves reduced to 25p each (frozen)
4 x 2 pints semi organic to 30p (frozen)
They had Anchor 500g spreadable butter for £2, El Paso (sp) fajita mixes to 50p and their tortilla wraps for 77p, coke cola 8 tins for £1.79 (this is a treat as we never get fizzy drink), corned beef £1 and some yogurts and a few other bits and in total spent about £21, so not too bad.
We've resigned to the fact that the seller is not going to pay our money back, so Trading Standards have suggested we get the work done and still pursue with course of court action and as long as we can prove what we've spent, then we can claim that back too. The thing is we really need transport with OH's work and my hospital visits. Have been quoted all the work done for £1200 which is £1800 cheaper than citroen quoted, but the mechanic has suggested we start with the minor work (£225) first and see how that works out...kind of process of elimination IYKWIM. We either have a car doing nothing costing us £4500 or do the work and spend a possible £1200 and have a vehicle which should then be sound and do us for a good few years. It really is the most suitable car for our needs, just a shame we fell into arms of a crook. Please send positive thoughts that it won't need so much work so soon and we can get some luck on our side.
Thanks again for all the lovely comments and PM's.

Positive thoughts for you and the car are mixed with the hope the
car trader gets precisely what he deserves - from trading standards,VAT and tax people etc.
Well done on the yellow stickered stuff. I got some frying beef half price, lean beef mince ditto, both of which are in freezer. Also got two pieces of belly pork stuffed with apple for just over half price which will make for DH and me with new potatoes and veg as a lunch today. DH looking forward to the meals as "It's like a Sunday lunch!"

I am so sorry about your friend and hope things are not as bad as they sound. I am not formally religious but see sending good vibes or positive thoughts as a primal force rather than a belief system IYKWIM.
DD is really pleased with her new suitcase as it is the perfect size. a good make, comes with seven year guarantee and I saved about £15 on it. She catches the plane to Milan around lunchtime for a four day break and I want to cook her a nice breakfast before she sets off.
The market is on today and I need more free range eggs and some veg. Might pop into library and also charity shop as well.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"

Hi Everyone
I have been missing for a while, but hope everyone is doing okay, if someone could just feel me in with anything major that has happened that would be good. Hopefully I will be back to my old self and join in with you all again, but sometimes life just gets in the way.

PP: Positive vibes for you and I hope everything gets sorted in your favour. Sh*ts like hime shouldn't be allowed on the streets, let alone trading.
SDG: Sorry to hear about your friend and wish him a good recovery.
I got a few yellow sticker stuff from Morrys yesterday, but not such good bargains as you, PP.
Off into town today to meet my friend for our usual Thursday get-together. I have a feeling it will be a bit subdued today...this time last week we were in the Spanish sunshine and I feel as though it hasn't stopped raining since we got back. My shoes are uncomfortable over my webbed feet!
Think I might need two shots in my cappuchino before we can trawl the CS's, plus an early lunch.
Have a good day folks and try and keep your heads above water!Normal people worry me.0 -
Mardy how can you eat meat if youve not got veg to go with it.?..Its like having bread with out butter.........I love my veg, especially swede, I love it ,id eat it with every meal............But I do find swede very hard to cut, it runs around the kitchen when I try to cut it...:eek:
Just popping out of lurkdom to say - Shegar, try microwaving the swede. I use half, scrub it, stick a knife in a few times so just like a potato and nuke it for about 15 mins (less if older and a bit wrinkly, more if needed) You will know when it is cooked. It saves having to chop it and tastes much sweeter than when boiled/steamed. Make sure to put it on a plate though coz it gets sticky. It's lovely! Forgot to say - scoop it out, add lashings of butter and black pepper ....
Backing out now ........0 -
Sunny again today in Manchester, who says it's always raining here! Although to be honest it's not that warm!!
Thanks Greyqueen for your tip about the advanced icons, will have a go later. I am at work at the mo so only a quick visit.
Minihauk love the tip about the micro swede, will certainly give that a go. Love carrot and swede but not the peeling, or hacking as I end up doing.
Bye for now.

Thanks MM. My sister has Psoriatic arthritis so can't chop anything, or even grip very well. This was a tip I picked up on another section of this board, so I can't take credit for it. It really works though.0

Wel DSiL situation is this :- Boss has small pipe fitting firm with six employees. Very hands on boss, DSiL has worked for him for ten years and has a lot of time and respect for him. There is plenty of work to do but because one very large firm has not paid boss for over six months, cash flow crisis has arisen. Other firms are paying their bills but not enough and not quickly enough. So DSiL and four other employees have decided to work for up to four weeks without pay. It will be a struggle but they have confidence that the situation will improve. They will be paid for the next two weeks so they have a chance to put a bit by. Their boss will pay the missing wages back to them when the time is up. They feel it's a gamble but would prefer their jobs to continue rather than go on the dole.
I want to jump up and down and applaud their loyalty and trust. :j These days they're qualities that are in short supply. In the back of my mind is the cynical me saying it wont work and it is just staving off the inevitable. I do so hope I am wrong.
Those shiftless 'articles' in Westminster could really do with learning from the qualities these young men are displaying. Loyalty and trust seem in short supplying both in their behaviour and their work ethics!:wall:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -

How do you cook green beans so that they actually taste of something? Had them today and it was about as enjoyable as eating rat entrails _pale_0
