  • Oooohh - pockets!

I'm off to look at the Mountain Warehouse sale, not that I need anything really, but their stuff does last & last. A few weeks ago I bought myself a lovely pair of sandals & shorter walking trews (don't have the legs for real shorts , but sadly haven't worn either yet. Their trousers are excellent for this weather as they really are quick drying, thankfully. And nothing ever needs ironing :T

    Bucketing down here...

Mardy - I always keen portions of emergency plum pie in the freezer for this reason. My plum tree produced so much last summer that I'm bored of baking it, but it is lovely when you need a cake & custard fix....
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

  • "I am on the hunt for flannelette bedding today. We always had flannelette sheets in the winter when I was a child. These days I am far too hot at night to need them, but GDD2 does. She has been waking up at 3am and climbing into DD's bed. We tried some flannelette cot sheets in her bed where she lies and she slept straight through!:j So I am looking for flannelette duvet covers and sheets."

You might want to have a look on the !kea webstore: a friend of mine has some duvet covers in a very cosy knitted jersey fabric and I'm almost certain they came from there.

As previously advised; an old, spare duvet, wool blanket or fleece under the bottom sheet will make her bed much warmer. And/or another fleece blanket under her bed-clothes and over a top sheet will make her doubly-toasty. Fleeces are so much cheaper than brand new bed-linens. MSE! I think @sda are selling them for about two quid each at the moment, possibly ditto for !kea. If she's a bed-clothes flinger-offer then she needs to be dressed more warmly for bed, including little socks.

meme, I got my flannelette stuff from Ama$on, which I put on the bed yesterday although they were originally meant for my winter2012 campaign. Incredibly warm and toasty, I was flinging off the duvet part way through the night! This is the set I got, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flannelette-Bedding-Pillowcases-Available-Colours/dp/B006JP86A6/ref=sr_1_61?ie=UTF8&qid=1335698007&sr=8-61

Edit: Mounta!n Warehouse have a sale on fleece blankets but not as cheap as A$da or I£ea...around £4.99.

Awful, awful weather. Had to go out to check on bunnies, who had the right idea being snuggled up in their hay. Small flood outside my front door where the drain was blocked, so donned rubber gloves and unblocked, not a lot of gunk but surprising how it stopped the water draining.

Off on our hols tommorrow, I picked a good un' didn't I?!

Lucielle, I don't know...I think there was a thread somewhere about it though.

We have sunny spells and bright but it was snowing this morning for about ten mins. The RV is doing my head in - does anybody want to rehome an old ratty grumpy awkward virgo Scottish sod?
Number 2 son on way over. He's a younger ratty grumpy etc etc . They could go as a pair. BOGOF.

Thanks for the flannelette advice everyone. GDD is a 'flinger off' so has been going to bed in flannelette pj's. Byatt thanks for link ,will take a look at Amazon. :T
Change of plan on the pudding front! I decanted my Cherry Vodka this morning and ended up with a lot of boozy cherries. Just could not throw them away so Boozy Cherry Trifle is in fridge. Should be ok, the cherries have been sitting in sealed jars with just neat vodka and sugar for 10 weeks. We are not driving anywhere after consumption!:rotfl: Driving, standing up straight or even being able to hold a conversation may be a problem! Will let you know!
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

No thanks Mardatha ... I have an RV of my own. Who is also a Scot. Is it a national trait? Or is it the star sign that does it?

Hello Everyone - what a ghastly day (although on the Osprey webcam it looks fine in Scotland Mar, not sure how near/far you are from Loch of Lowes), lashing down and blowing a hoolie. The weather needs to shake itself, we are of to Cornwall in a couple of weeks, we don't want it like this! Hope it gets better for you Byatt, this week is supposed to improve! The little birdies on our cctv are feeding furiously, always a sign they are cold.

I have a cunning plan to keep the local bird population well fed. We use Palm oil on our van for frying. Now this is a usually a very unsustainable product, as vast swathes of rainforest have been obliterated for plantations, and I did not want to use it. However it is the best frying medium and so I had a bit of a moral dilemma. Luckily I have managed to find a source of palm oil from sustainable sources so we can now use it on the van, but the other problem with it is that it is a solid vegetable fat, so our local oil recycler (for biodiesel) can't use it, leaving us with buckets of solid fat every time we clean out the fryers :(. A bit of lateral thinking and a lot of googling to make sure it's ok for them, I have been turning our waste oil into fatballs for the birds. I save all our odds and ends of bread, dregs from cereal packets, mothy wholemeal flour, bought seed and anything bird-friendly, and mix it all together with the oil and shape into balls. Mucky job, but very good for your hands (palm oil is used in a lot of cosmetics, but not necessarily chip-scented!). The birds love them, it recycles a waste product and we may even be able to sell them to cover cost and profits to birdy charity.

Very funny thing yesterday, Cat G was watching BBCTV (British Birds for Cats) and the black cat from next door came and planted himself under the feeder. Cat G very interested, tried to stare it out. It the jumped out of camera shot and Cat G though it had jumped into our living room! Cue half an hour of him hunting it round
and over the furniture, very confused as to where it had gone! I'm sure he still thinks it's in here somewhere as he has retreated upstairs for the day.

We have no cake, but plenty of choccy, yummy almond from Aldi, which I could eat till I popped, so virtual chunks all round!

ETA : He can come down here Mar, he can go next door and keep Mr OG company, he's very grumpy as Mrs OG is up up at t' big house for 10 days and
his old bones are playing up in all this rain. HTH :)

No thanks as I have a pedantic Virgo who is easily bored and very ratty so I will pass also:eek:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Sorry mar, I think the world of you but 2 grumpy old men is just to much :rotfl: OH is tired and poorly so have plonked him in front of the footie on tv so he can shout at them.

just dived in Mr A so I can stay home a couple of days, OH drove me due to lousy windy wet weather and sat out side in the nice warm car listening to the radio, I breezed round and stocked up. Ds came home from his girlies looking very tired and grumpy too - think I may hide in the greenhouse.
