Oh Kidcat, that is scary. I hope you have managed to get some rest as you will most likely need it - thinking of you all.
I know how scary it is to have a child with meningitis too. My DD had it at 13 months, but it was pneumococcal meningitis so there was no distinctive rash, so my own GP fobbed me off when I took her & I came away thinking I had "Neurotic first time Mum" stamped across my forehead. When she was no better the next day I went to out local minor injuries unit & she was seen by a different doctor who also sent us away saying it was "probably viral, & there was no rash so nothing to worry about." Even though she hadn't fed at all for over 24 hours & had hardly peed
Six hours later I woke up to an odd rhythmical noise & quickly realised she was having a fit. Ambulance duly arrived, they called out on-call GP who rode with us in the ambulance to the hospital (20 mins even with all the bells & lights).
Thankfully they were excellent at the hospital & quickly confirmed meningitis & started IV antibiotics. The on-call GP stayed with me & confided that he'd had to resucitate her in the ambulance but he'd managed to keep it from me at the time (for which I shall be eternally grateful).
I was warned that as she'd been ill for a while the outlook wasn't brilliant, but amazingly she made a total recovery & has had no after effects. We were so lucky - I still can't believe she got through it all somedays.
It is a horrible infection, but sounds like you caught it early enough thankfully. And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -
I'm enjoying all the posts about spiritualism - not seen a thing myself (maybe as I wander around in a daze most of the time :rotfl:). I've not really been exposed to many kinds of religion/spiritualism - my Dad was a staunch athiest so I only encountered it in RE lessons at school.prepareathome wrote: »mum when I was three told dr I could not sleep as she was fed up me staying awake all night talking to spirit and she got him to put me on barbiturates, which did stop me seeing them for a few years.
Well that would do it! Crikey how times change! Can you imagine giving a child barbiturates today?
Once I knew this house was haunted I dealt with it as over the year have done a few rescues - helping spirits to the light.
I don't know if I could have been so brave - but then I guess you would understand the situation far better than I.
Out of curiosity I have tried my hand at most things spiritual just to see if I could do them, even tarot card reading, but healing is the thing I am most drawn to, even trained in Reiki just to see what the difference was between it and Universal Energy Healing which I was born being able to do. I have seen into past - hubby was given the proof I had a gift by me being able to describe the house he grew up in, as I could see it as if I was there, we even had an argument where the coal scuttle had been in living room, till he asked his mum and I was right, I never went to that house or have even seen any photos as none seem to have been taken in it. I did see the future sometimes but apart from a couple of people whom I tell I keep quiet about what I see. I only tell those friends for them to keep note and then I wait and see if it does happen, I never believe anything until I get the proof. I did even train as a medium at spiritualist church but again not me, healing is.
That all sounds so fascinating - do you know how often you are right about future events happening? Do you have insight into global events, or do you need to know the people that you can "see" things about? Sorry to be so nosey (& feel free to tell me to take a hike) I just find it fascinating. Although Byatt, I can understand your point of view & I think if I started seeing things, I'd feel rather freaked out.
Katieowl - I hope your daughter manages going back to uni. Are the counselling services that you mentioned part of her uni? If not, can she get some help from them? I had an athiest friend at uni who lost her Dad suddenly & violently, & she found the anglican priest a huge source of comfort - he always had time for her whenever she needed to talk (rather than being constrained to an appointment) & religion was never discussed so there was no pressure on her to go to church etc. She said that after what had happened she certainly wasn't going to start believing in God now. He was a wise old soul, very experienced in life & students & did her the world of good. Maybe her uni chaplain could be helpful?
Byatt - don't know what to say about your ongoing care for your DD, other than I'm thinking of you (which probably isn't much help, sorry :rotfl:). Internet & 'phone banking is just so quick & easy, isn't it.
Meme30 - hope your Ma is feeling better today, & today isn't too frantic for you.
Ginnyknit - hope life gets better for you & your OH soon. Dodgy :grouphug: to you & everyone else who needs them.
I still have this lurgy - first thing in the morning is the worst as my throat is sooooo dry & sore, but I am improving slowly. Yesterday I managed to wash my hair as it was the first day it didn't hurt! Not left the house in a week, & don't think I'll be up to going out tomorrow either. Just hoping I'm better when my DD & DS come back on Easter Monday. Getting really bored of being ill now though....
But I have had a week of NSDs & cured my red wine habit - the thought of wine (& tea/coffee) makes me feel quite peculiar (so I'm obviously still ill).
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0 -
[QUOTE=katieowl;52216461- My DD seems to be responding to medication, she's been much brighter the last few days. Almost back to normal, just worrying a bit how she's going to cope with going back to uni and finishing off after Easter, but hopefully if she keeps on the meds. she'll get through that short final period. She's been referred to the counselling services locally too but they have a long waiting list!
Kate[/QUOTE]
Am so glad she seems to be responding to the antibiotics, its worrying when they are ill be they newborn or 35 ( age of my oldest).
My oldest had meningitis twice and that virus that mimics it about 10 times - first time age 16 months the real thing, was very lucky called my dr out and although no rash at the time he just knew what it was and she was rushed in, boy in those days it took nearly a week from lumbar puncture to results but they had her on antibiotics right from the moment she was taken in. By the time she had her last mimic ( she had real virus again age 10) at 16 lumber puncture results took 45 mins, I can imagine they are even quicker now, so she didn't have to be kept in that time, where as with previous mimicking virus with it taking days for results they could not take the chance it was only the mimicking virus and had to treat her each time as if it was real. Thankfully she made a full recovery from both real cases of it.
Isn't it funny Madartha how we both can do things but prefer different things - I think with the medium-ship its more a case of I do not trust myself, I like proof of what I am getting is true, so found it hard to stand up and give out info. On a one to one sometimes when giving healing info pops into my head and if person is willing to hear it I tell them, but I sound them out before hand. You and others born with this like me must just find it all so natural, I just couldn't imagine not being able to see, hear, feel the 'spiritual world', be just as bad as losing hearing or sight.
Right better go and get dressed have Continence Clinic in half an hour. Its been raining here on and off for over 24 hrs but I am not to sorry at moment as my poor plants needed the water and I wasn't quite up to watering them not even with the hose. I will though be moaning if the rain stays, we had rain every day from mid-November to end of Jan, even the days it snowed it rained first then changed to snow, mind you all the hedges I had planted in Dec have benefited from that as instructions were to water them at least once a week to promote root growth and strength and every one of the 100 hedges have taken, which is a great relief as the company warns you, you can expect up to 30% loss due to some hedge plants not surviving the moving and replanting.
I harvested all the cauliflowers I planted last September, so they are all now washed and in freezer.
Right better move
Take care everyone, stay warm and dry, hugs and love to all xxxNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Gardenia, I used to have premonitions. Usually for biggish things, but all awful. The ones I remember most clearly was a plane hijacking and I "saw" who was going to be killed...then there was a train hijacking and the same thing. I really don't want to see things like that, very real, and not like a dream. Personally I get "feelings" about things that could happen and they are always correct, but relatively minor in the scheme of things, although I always doubt them before the event (like PAH) or some such thing. I can't force the issues though and the feelings come of their own accord. I sometimes help a friend when she has worries about health and she asks me what I "feel" about it, and I always answer honestly. One nice feeling, was "knowing" my friend's DD would go to a Scottish uni. I also do ESP especially with my DD. There's lot of little things that I'm sure many people have happen to them, such as thinking of someone and then the phone ringing.
I kind of see it as collective thinking and I do believe thoughts are powerful, living things and that is why prayers appear to often work. Just my own take on stuff as I am no longer religious in the traditional sense.
I feel for all you mums who have had children with meningitis. Such a scary, worrying time. :A The worst thing where my DD was concerned was her having a grand mal seizure, and I was called from the ambulance taking her to hospital and heard the sirens going. She was away and I had to drive there, set off in such a state that on the way I drove into the back of another car. I jumped out, apologised, gave my insurance details and set off...I saw the driver in my rear view taking my reg number which I had forgotten to give! My car was so badly damaged it was written off when I later called the car rescue people on arriving at the hospital. :eek:0 -
Evening all, thank you for all your lovely wishes, am pleased to say that DD has been sent home with her IV in and the nurses will visit to give her the necessary medicines. She looking alot brighter and the spots are starting to fade. The doctors are saying that the speedy action of our GP has most definitely saved us major problems. We are so grateful.
DS has fretted dreadfully and was so happy to see us home, he keeps checking we are both still here.
Its shocking to hear of so many having had this - its awful, and I had always thought rare, but obviously not. I must admit I had always had a very it wont ever happen to us attitude but know so much better now.0 -
So sorry to hear of your daughter KIDCAT, I hope she recovers okay, such a worry for you and the family..........Gardenia.....It sound like you and me have the same bug, my throat feel a bit better but it seems to have dived on my chest now and headache wont stop whatever I take, and ive got a blocked ear to go with it all.....
Plus im so dam tired all the time, im not really able to care for hubby as much as I should right now but its a good job ive got the carer come in the mornings to shower and dress him, etc, as long as hes kept warm and drink plenty he will have to get by the next few days best he can.............Ive been going to bed early to try get as much rest as possible , so I can carry on with the caring duties, social services only help me when I phone them so worn out I cant stand then they take him in to respite for me for a week, but with all the goverment cut backs the council dont seem to be able to help me as much as I need.................I do so worry about what future we both have, we are early 50 s and both feel 75 plus..........I say to him I will carry on doing my best to keep him at home and thats about all I can do.......
Mardy can you do a reading for me, I totally believe in spiritualism?.....Been quite nice here today , sun until 3 o clock then a little rain..........0 -
Kidcat, so pleased to hear about your DD is home. :T What wonderful news and such a brilliant GP. :A
Shegar, rest is the best thing but I can understand you can't relax as you should do. I think all we can do is take each day as it comes. Hope you feel better sooner rather than later. Definitely rest though. :A
Gardenia, "thinking of me" helps a lot, so never underestimate how helpful it is.0 -
Kidcat - big hugs for your DD
Byatt - i know what you mean about "seeing" things. i've had dreams that are so odd and then a few months later, bosh, it's exactly as i dreamt it. very odd.Nonny mouse and Proud!!

Kidcat you do have a right old time with your children, don't you? I don't know how you hold it all together sometimes. I am so glad your daughter is home and the doctors caught the meningitis in time. When I was at school a girl died from it
; that was many years ago now and medicine has made advancements.
Shegar I hope you are feeling better soon.
I know there were some others on here who needed hugs too. So virtual hugs are flying around on their way to you. I forgot to take my tablet yesterday and this morning took two antihistamines by mistake instead of one tablet and one antihistamine so I have been completely out of it for the last couple of days and only just realised why - doh! Ginnyknit I haven't forgotten about you and will pm you soon when my head is back in the land of the living instead of la-la land!!
I used to see the odd spirit when I was little - an old man used to come and sit on top of the wardrobe and wait with me until I fell asleep lol! For some reason I was never scared, and in the world of a child, it is not at all odd to have someone sitting on top of the wardrobe :rotfl:. I also used to sense things about people. I do still get the occasional 'knowing' about people when I meet them, but it's very, very rare and I have no idea how it happens. I would love to develop this side of myself but have no idea how to without exposing myself to crackpots!
