If there is one thing I am good at it is being poor. We grew up really poor. We never had new clothes and we almost never had enough to eat. I remember a whole lunch for the 6 of us being an 8 x 8 tin of cornbread. I have hunted for frogs for frog legs to eat and eaten biscuits and scorch flour gravy 3 times a week (and it was good too! but we were always hungry) but at school, things were bad because the other kids picked on us so bad. That was the worst thing. Still we lived through it and now feel like we can do almost anything.
I buy pigs feet to cook as a treat for the dog and chicken feet are cooked by many people here in the South still. I hear they are very good though I have never tried them.

Welcome chirpy - new girl makes tea. Mines a rooibos, no sugar - ta.
I have to go birthday pressie shopping for DS today - he turns into a grunting stroppy thing on Sunday (13) though to be fair he's already got some practice in. GOt him an Aston Villa football strip half price in the sale and a ramp for his scooter. He can't come up with anything much and there's no point in giving him money as he rarely spends it. It isn't really about the money but just him having some stuff to open. I think it might come down to new boxers and yet another football.
This evening I have to go to a school production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the school DD is going to do her 6th form in. I'm not crazy about JCS, not crazy about school productions and I don't know anyone in it. But she is going there because of their track record in drama so it is a must.
I'm all for same sex marriage as I am hopeful that DD's godfather and his partner will do something at some point. I want an excuse to wear a posh hat!The partner has just had a serious health scare and said only last week that it brought it home to him that at 53 he didn't want to be alone any more.
Ho hum best get cracking - things to do, places to go. When can I sit and do nothing for a while, please?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

(did I mention that my floorboards have just been replaced and I'll need help clearing up the sawdust )
Kitcat:- Well done on getting through what was obviously a rough day. I totally agree with you on the all you can eat thing. One good plate of food for me as well!
I hope you and Greenbee get sorted out, this does sound like a really nasty throat you have both got. The news has just said we are all immune to Penicillin! That'l be right!
Carpenter's last day today and he's an hour late so far... I have a hospital appointment so he isn't going to be very popular when he gets here. Why are people so inconsiderate of other people's time?0 -
Morning All
Well dinner last night was alternatively good, bleugh and omgoodness that is incredible.
I did get my share of the starter, thanks for askingDH got all the yucky olives so he was happy.
I ordered this as a main course...Malloreddus con crema de piselli, porcini e parmigiano, aka, Sardinian gnocchi sauteed with onions, wild porcini mushrooms, garden peas cream and finished with parmesan.
I was expecting potato gnocchi with porcini and peas in a cream sauce. I got very al dente pasta covered in what tasted like mushy peas with slices of porcini. We did ask about the gnocchi but apparently Sardinian gnocchi is a certain pasta shape. So I did learn something. The pasta was so al dente that it took more chewing than DH's duck.
All was forgiven with dessert. It was the best pistachio gelato I have ever had. I had to resist picking up the plate and licking it it was that good.
DH hid the bill from me, but I do know that going there won't be a weekly treat.
smileyt Thank you so much for sending me the link to your well argued and thoughtfully written letter. I'm an atheist in a hetrosexual marriage, so this is discrimination I have never had to face. I completely agree with your point about no one would choose to be gay in this society. The best of luck with your campaign
greenbee fingers crossed you get your voice back soon
VJsmum I have one of those male 13 year old creatures living in my house too. Mine will talk to me about food and Zombies. It's amazing the tangents our conversations can go off on. He has been told that he can't use his brother as Zombie bait.
kidcat I agree with shelley_crow I think you would be a wonderful teacherI hope your DS leaves the glue alone and that you get your voice back soon.
shelley_crow I did, thank you. Dh showed remarkable restraint for once.
Hello chirpychick *waves*
PIC I hope the new addition settles in quickly
Right now I'm wondering if I should go to the gym today or tomorrow. I need to get out of the house today, but going to the gym is a good reason to have an hour out of the house and away from all the computer games. I'm all Skyrim'd out and I don't play the silly thing.
I think I'll have another cup of tea and then decide
Take care everyone xxxx0 -
You are all very chatty this morning; is it the excitement and expectation of PIC's new arrival? :j
Greenbee and Kidcat, the loss of voice sounds awful and I'm sorry you are both so poorly. I haven't ever lost my voice but did have an awful cough that got worse and worse and lasted weeks, I even cracked a rib through coughing. Nothing worked for that. I was grieving for my father too even though it was several months earlier, but know it contributed to my poor health.
Shelley, I will check my mobile phone company. I called B! and they offered me a reduction amounting to a grand, da da... of £5!!! I don't think so.
Hi Chirpy and welcome. :T
I hadn't realised there weren't same sex marriages. I thought the civil partnerships were the same thing. My niece said she got married rather than saying a civil partnership (this was Scotland, is it different there?) Sorry I am so ignorant on this matter.0 -
Today being my very busy day of the week am just popping in to wish PIC well in her doggy adventures today.
Have done all the school runs solo today, finished shopping, put SC on for dinner, tidied kitchen shopping away, had a bite to eat. Am now having ten minutes sit before dashing off to drop DD her lunch (she left on table), then am in DS8 school all afternoon as usual. Have pulled the parachute out of shed this morning to take with me, I thought I could get them playing some outdoor games for free time rather than them all sitting at computers.
Had nasty discovery in shed - we have mice, not impressed that cats are oblivious, also not impressed that they seem to be result of OH leaving a packet of tortilla chips in there - goodness knows why.
Am thinking will call council man and get him to deal as I really dont have the time to teach the cats to mouse. I had hoped that our eldest cat would have taught them when they were younger, having been feral she was exceptional at mousing, but obviously she decided not to share.0 -

Life is hard in the USA if you are poor isn't it? And there are a lot of poor people there. Always makes me count my blessings. Yet look at what she says 'I feel like we can do almost anything' - amazing lady. thank you for posting it Mar xClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Popping in very quickly to say - PIC I think we NEED photos of your new addition so we can ooh and aahAspire not to have more but to be more.

Meme - Kids start arguments over the silliest things. My eldest had a pirate outfit he went everywhere in for about 3 months. He outgrew it in the end but didn't understand why it wasn't suitable for every occasion.
I thought it might amuse you to know when my Daughter was ten years old she went to my friends wedding dressed as Ali-G!
No-one batted an eyelid. Other than school uniform she has solely wore fancy dress from the age of six. I never minded as she was always so well behaved and it always made people smile.0
