I can deal with most things medical; severed legs, gushing blood, needles and stitches.
But if anyone throws up...I'm right there with them!
OH bought a garden frame from Aldi yesterday. Hope it does the job because it was really fiddly to assemble and is a bit flimsy. Still, the price was right I s'pose.Normal people worry me.0 -
Kidcat hope all goes well at the hospital and you're not kept hanging around for too long. Are they aware of son's ASD and you are a carer? Hopefully you can be fast tracked. Sorry you are so poorly. The best cure of course is rest, but don't know how you can do that, you are always on the go. If possible though dose yourself up and sleep.
Hugs. xxx
HC, is the frame a reasonable price. Saw one in a garden centre for £20 but that was very flimsy.
I couldn't cope with my DD having a wart frozen off...:o0 -
Hey i'm a long time lurker on here, i read on this thread i think about adding lentils to mince to make it go further. I have made two shepherds pies today and my partner actually commented on how much nicer they tasted than normal - i didn't tell him i had added lentils. I really can't believe how cheap the dried lentils were and how much further the mince went - literally its doubled the size so now we have two!
Thanks everyone, i love advice i can use that works and saves me money. xTrying to save money and always open to ideas and expecting our first child in March 2015.0 -
When I had laryngitus years and years ago, the nurse told me to whisper instead of talking/shouting as it was louder than me trying to talk and less exhausting. Does that make sense?? Don't know what else you could take though.0

Byatt: The cold frame was £25, tricky to put together - but OH not the best at DIY...more GSI (Get Someone In) and looks a bit flimsy. We shall see, but I think we may need to find a sheltered spot for it, I can see the lid blowing up easily in a strong wind.Normal people worry me.0

Am so pleased, the hospital saw us very quickly and have pinned it back together with loads more butterfly thingys. All in all under an hour from arriving to leaving. Exceptional.
Had nightmare when I arrived though, pulled up and realised had to take car into multi storey - have never driven new car in multi storey, its so big and long its a real nightmare to squeeze around the bends, who designs these car parks, obviously someone with a tiny car!!
Then came out into dark and realised had no idea where lights were!! Oh the fun we have had today.
Stopped at Costa on way in and grabbed an iced coffee thingy to ease throat and it has helped beautifully, hospital advised GP tomorrow again!!
Cold frames were quite cheap in Wilkos this week and I think Argos may have had some cheapish too. Having never bought one I have no idea of quality - but am looking at getting guys in to quote on landscaping this week so will possibly be in the market for one when all done.
Going to wander with DS7 to garden centre this week to pick his water feature - Dobbies had some lovely ones last time we were there, which didnt seem too expensive but will wait for landscaper to tell us what we need then Ds can choose the design.0 -
Thanks HC. My garden is a wind tunnel so need something hardy. I'll keep looking.
Kidcat, so glad you were seen quickly. Hope you feel better soon. xx
Schumie, I've just found out the wonders of lentils too! Wish I'd known years ago, and they do add so much flavour too.0 -
Thanks for the soup tip, but a couple of handfuls of dried dates did the necessary. Higher in fibre than figs and 1/4 of the price here. In fact, might have overdone the dates.... Seems I have a delicate constitution now :rotfl:
TMI, hun, TMI......;)
GreyQueen I'm sorry to say it, but Nurse has been a nightmare. I knew it was a mistake to let DS1 introduce her to video games, but I heeded your warning and didn't argue. Well she was up until 3am playing on the ps3 and then was running around the house with my meat cleaver shouting "Death to Orcs" It took me an hour to persuade her that my feather duster was really an enchanted artifact from The Forest of Ood and much more powerful than a silly old battle axe.
She is now tied up in the corner and I'll send her back to you when she stops trying to curse/cast spells on me when I get within three feet of her. Sorry about that
Me and the lads (Henri d'Vac, Gollum the Slowcooker and newbie Homer the breadmaker) have been having a ball without Nursie's supervision. We've been eating takeout pizza, drinking beer, putting our feet (or in Henri's case, casters) up on the furniture and just generally slobbing about without an enema or a hospital corner in sight. Bliss, I tell you; pure bliss.
Howsomever, she is my imaginary staff member and I feel obligated to give the old bat a [STRIKE]broom cupboard[/STRIKE] room, so just give her some petrol money and point her back in my direction. She'll turn up in her own good time, I expect. More's the pity.
I hav been having a fun-filled, sun-filled weekend, with a coupla hours a day spent on the lottie moving animal by-products* and the evenings/ afternoons hanging with friends. I may have drunk too much vino last night. I say may as I'm not sure how much I did have. Managed to walk home unaided so cannot have been too rampageous.
:jI saw the first baby froglet of spring today, which is 2 weeks earlier that the first one in 2011. Gawd, they are soooo cute, in a slimy sorta way.
(((((kidkat))))) what a day with your DS; hope he is stitched up and not suffering too much.
* That was me being genteel, btw. Reminds me of the farmer's daughter who complained about her Dad calling it manure and saying couldn't he call it fertiliser instead; it sounded so much nicer. Her Mum wryly pointed out that it'd taken her 30 years to get him to call it manure.
OK, that's enough BS (or in the case of my lottie, PS and BS) for one post. Laters, everyone. GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oh, thank-you Byatt for the kind thoughts! Stress levels running at an all-time high, OH and I bickering and worse, but thankfully able to recognise that this is a difficult time for him. This was never a home for me really, having moved from our flat to look after MIL, it was never 'my' place.
OH's mother moved to this house with her parents on 9th September 1943 - I know this as I have her diaries for 1940-43, which make fascinating reading of a childhood in wartime London. She lived lived here with her parents and husband, and later their son (OH), and after both her parents and husband died, we lived with her. So a lot of history for OH to let go of.
But this is the best thing that could of happened - as house sales go it was a piece of cake, and we will save an awful lot of outgoings.
Can't wait to get back to start my seeds off - this is growing weather!
Glad you got such good service at the hospital Kidcat, and hope the GP cn give you something for your throat - mine is giving me gip from all the dust, barking like a seal :rotfl:.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
