If I remember correctly, linseeds on their own don't work as effectively as the outsides are too tough for humans to process;)
Have you got a pestle and mortar/meat tenderiser/hammer to help them on their way? Rolling pin? milk bottle?
Off to the high street in a bit: today's motto is "no fudge from the farmer's market".‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

Thanks for the soup tip, but a couple of handfuls of dried dates did the necessary. Higher in fibre than figs and 1/4 of the price here. In fact, might have overdone the dates.... Seems I have a delicate constitution now :rotfl:Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

If you leave a few linseeds in water you will see them swell up. You really need to drink plenty if you use them for bulk. They pass through the body if you eat them as they are but to get any nutrition out of them you need to grind them or chew thoroughly.0

Does anyone remember California Syrup of Figs...do they still make it?
I used to love being dosed up with that as a kid and once managed to sneak an extra spoonful when my dad's back was turned.
I'll leave the outcome to your imagination:eek:Normal people worry me.0 -
another great charity shop find. Well 2 actually. Just unbelievably chuffed to bits. Yesterday I saw a faux fur gilet in the same shop I got the waterproof jacket from. My size (amazingly!), but decided against it. So...today after finishing my bunny sitting I thought I'd pop in on the proviso I could park on the road so no paying car park fees, so as luck would have it, I could park and the gilet was still there for £6. It looks new, is not a chavvy one (IMHO)...and fits!
Not only that, this is the one
http://www.casamiaexclusive.com/itemDetail.asp?ID=955 for £50!!
It will be ideal for the cold winter months around the cottage.
Plus I got a lovely made in France shawl cardi, sage green with red trim and will be so warm too. The ladies at the counter said how lovely it was and how it would suit me. (I'm a red head. )Very chic and practical too. I'm blissfully happy right now with these finds.
Kidcat, hope the party goes well and your son is fine now...:A
All the garden chat is very motivating.:T I will give the carrots a go this year as runner beans such a disaster last year.

I'm surprised you managed to sleep last night, having left such bargains in the shop. Absolutely gorgeous, well done! Sounds like they've given you a much needed boost, too :T
I'm taking a wee break from the spring cleaning...was up with the larks this morning, and am now onto the living room. Fantastic blowy day so throws, cushions and curtains are out on my small washing line (and am also borrowing my neighbours washing lines). I've a gale force wind blowing through the house too, but I love the feeling of winter being blown away, and replaced with spring. Though the house is freeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzing now....:rotfl:
All this talk of gardening has me resolved to try to patio plant again this year. I was going to give up after last year's dismal showing, but at the very least I'll get some salads planted for my kitchen windowsill either tomorrow (if I finish my kitchen spring clean) or next weekend. Just need to find a way to stop Jaspie-kitten weeing in the compost...:rotfl:This is his first day out in blowy gales, and he loves it, keeps lifting his little face to the wind! He should sleep well tonight, and so shall I.
Well, tea break is over so I must get on. Have just noticed that one of my curtains needs washing again as it's been blowing against something so is filthy...actually much dirtier than before it got washed.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturdays folks. Spring is pretty much here:T

Hello Everyone
I'm still alive and, while not kicking, able to give a substantial nudge with my toes.
Thank you all for the kind words and get well soon wishes. I think we have been able to narrow the blood pressure rise down to either hayfever or a low grade viral infection. I'm dosed up and feeling like it's a bit more stable now.
Winchelsea Ty for the kind offer. I wish my monsters had that effect on my bp. I hope you are feeling better.
meme30 I'm already on medication and they have worked well for a few years now. Glad your DD is feeling better and fingers crossed for addition(s) to the family
katieowl I hope your daughter is feeling calmer. The goat curry and cakes sound amazing. Good luck with the classes
PAH That is great news :T You aren't selfish at ALL!!
Thank you modern millie
Byatt What great buys. I'm glad you got something nice for yourself
kidcat Oh dear. I hope your son has recovered and enjoys the party.
Mrs Chip Good luck with the move.
GreyQueen I'm sorry to say it, but Nurse has been a nightmare. I knew it was a mistake to let DS1 introduce her to video games, but I heeded your warning and didn't argue. Well she was up until 3am playing on the ps3 and then was running around the house with my meat cleaver shouting "Death to Orcs" It took me an hour to persuade her that my feather duster was really an enchanted artifact from The Forest of Ood and much more powerful than a silly old battle axe.
She is now tied up in the corner and I'll send her back to you when she stops trying to curse/cast spells on me when I get within three feet of her. Sorry about that
I'm still taking it easy, but I'm even missing the gym at this point. DH has gone off to visit his parents and to sort out his Dad's new pc. So it is just me and monsters to tend to until tomorrow night. I've made double choc chunk banana cake and triple choc chunk/peanut butter chip brownies this afternoon, so DS1 and DS2 are happy. I'm trying hard to keep up with the healthy eating plan, but has been difficult when everyone is cooking me toasted sandwiches or serving me huge portions of food.
I think I'm going to make toad in the hole tonight and have mine with tons of veg to try and make up for the lack of them over the last few days.
Take care everyone and thank you again xxx0 -
SDG - I know what you mean about veg when you are ill, I find myself ready to kill for a piece of broccoli after a few days of not being well.
Hugs to those who are poorly.
Thanks for all the good wishes for DS, I got up every two hours to check him in the night and he was fine thankfully, has a lovely bruise the size of a tennis ball at side of head and a lump to match but seems fully recovered. We had his party at the gym today and he had a wonderful time, all his friends came and the staff were excellent, allowing the kids to go at their own comfort levels.
I however awoke with no voice, throat was sore yesterday but this came out of the blue. Little car failed its retest MOT today so will need to go in for full diagnosis on MOnday.
All the gardening talk has reminded me I have done very little this year so need to get myself organised this week and at least plan.
With this is mind Mardatha I seem to remember you had loads of tomatoes earlier than we did last year - which variety were they?0 -
My god I'm in severe shock that anybody would kill for a vegetable. I would be far more likely to kill anybody who tried to make me eat the bloody things!
the tomatoes were "Latah".0
