PAH that is good news and must be such a relief.
Ginnyknit I have some old knitting magazines if you'd like them. There are about 5 or 6. PM me if you want them and I could cycle over one day as I won't have much work after next week.
I wish you'd all stop talking about food .... :rotfl:I'm going to be having the midnight nibbles at this rate .....
Greyqueen I know it's the full moon at the moment, but I have just done all the washing up (that my young person should have done ) so will have space to clean my propagators out tomorrow and sow some tomato and pepper seeds. Do you think sowing them at a full moon will be disastrous? I don't think I can wait another fortnight until the moon is waxing again to start them off! I must be getting old as time is flying by! (For those of you who are wondering what on earth I am on about, there is a school of thought that you should sow or plant fruit-bearing plants when the moon is waxing, and do your pruning/ sow or plant root veg when the moon is waning. Also you're not supposed to sow or plant on a full moon or a new moon.)
Young person (who is actually an adult but sometimes doesn't behave like it) has gone out drinking tonight so he'd better not come home in the wee small hours and mess my kitchen up or I'll not be responsible for my actions in the morning! If he does, I can guarantee that the landing outside his bedroom will urgently need hoovering early in the morning with my powerful and very loud vac!
Hmmm. I'd best get myself off to bed as I am obviously starting to get grumpy ..... night all xxx
PS hello softstuff and rainbow!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

What about half and half mashed tatties and turnip - is that ok? I quite like that. (might be swede not turnip I never understand the difference lol)
Sure. I've made it before and I generally throw in whatever I have around, the trick is getting the texture right. Potatoes can be a little dry, so if you have a higher proportion of them you might need a tiny splash of skimmed milk to cream them up, if you have a higher proportion of other veg there's no milk needed because they can be pretty watery. If you find the mash after it's whizzed is a bit watery you can throw it back in the pan and cook it for a bit to dry it out. I've thrown in broccoli, peas and even courgette before now. Somehow it always tastes quite similar and we like it.
I'm currently puzzling making microwave potato chips without oil and tomato replacements in meals....Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
PAH:- Am really chuffed for you. A victory over the faceless minions of DWP, well done. :T
Katieowl:- Hope your DD is ok. I would imagine its not just the course stress, she has the 'what's next' stress on top of that! _pale_
Vjsmum:- Well done getting this far on your marathon birthday party's without turning into a gibbering wreck!
Not sure DD1 would like twins on top of her 2 year old. Also she has seen the work load DD2 has had with her twins this last four years. I think it's a whatever goes as long as we have a healthy baby/babies situation now.
Apparently twins run through the mothers genetic line. DD2's twins were really out of the blue. We traced back through my family and found that my Nanna was one of 13 and her Mam had three sets of twins! All long gone before I was born, several of them in childhood. This was in the late 1800's. DD2 has been told she now has a 30% chance of another multiple birth if she conceives again. I think its putting her off! :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Thanks for everyone's supportive words. DD has an apt. with the uni counsellor, but it's not for a couple of weeks. She's spoken to her main tutor, who is aware of the situation, but she needs to pass her on to someone else, to extend any deadlines etc. DD doesn't want to extend if she can possible manage to complete the work, as it will just prolong the whole thing, so she's taking the tablets the GP has given her, and we (She and I) think she might do best to just keep working away as hard as possible, because it then fills every moment, and the panic stuff is kept at bay. That might sound wrong, but I think it's best for her - the downtimes are when she's getting in a state, and she's then not being able to distract herself with anything else, if she gets stuck into her work she's concentrating so hard it doesn't happen.
I think the 'what's next stress' was part of it Meme30, but she knows she's in the cafe with me for the Easter Hols, and the summer, and we are hoping that may be permanent, somewhere within the organisation. There is very little likely hood that she will find a permenant job using her degree here, and she's decided that 'here' is where she wants to be!
I just heard some idiot politician on the radio saying that maybe the way to fund railways would be to have higher fares when it was busy!!!! Idiot! He's OBVIOUSLY not in the habit of using the railways or he'd KNOW there has always been a peak fare. Where do they get this people from? The Numpty Shop?

Oh Owl - don't get me started on politicians. Not at this time of the morning please...:mad::mad:0

Now my head is a bit clearer and not being so selfish and thinking only about myself can get back into this group properly.........have been reading just not replying.
Meme30, just sending love for DD ( an you) that there is a wonderful outcome be it one, two or three) little people
Katieowl, if it is when she is not busy that her mind races and she panics then I would agree she should just study as much as possible then when you get her home you make her relax and not open a book if possible, although most likely she will have an essay or two over the holidays. My oldest son ( now 32) was the same at Uni, fine when studying but used to end up getting totally drunk in the evenings he didn't study till we took a hand, he admitted he did it to stop him worrying about failing as he had set his heart right from the start to work for PWC if he could, although he never thought of working in the Austrialia office then, and worked out a study plan for him during term time, allowing him just one night off every two weeks apart from his work, in a betting office on Saturdays and all holidays - seems cruel I know but he needed it - worked and he sailed through with a first in Accountancy. Then he took a year off after his degree and went travelling which we mainly funded ( one of the reasons we ended up in debt but he needed the break) and he found work locally when he could, that stopped him ended up with a nervous breakdown after all those years of study. Only downside was of course he fell in love with Melbourne and when he came back and started at PWC and waited till a suitable vacancy came up in their Melbourne office and he got it and they paid for him to move there, so keeping him studying was for him the best thing and now he is reaping the benefit. So hoping she can just make it through these last few months.
Madartha I would just eat whatever doesn't make you feel uncomfortable and plenty off it until you have some idea as to what is causing the pain and discomfort.
Softstuff great to see you back, just so sorry its been bad health that kept you away.
Ginnyknit it is hard for you, you are OHs carer so that limits your life drastically. Now I do not know what is wrong with OH but one thing to think about as you are saving, if he ever has to go into a care home ( I hope never) and you have savings you will have to pay for his care out of that, but if you have no savings then he will be fully funded. I know there have been changes since MIL died 3 years ago but I don't think that much. I might seem greedy suggesting this but it would seem a shame that you are scrimping and scraping and doing without to have a cushion and if this did happen it would all go into the councils coffers yes someone else who had not saved a penny would receive the exact same care and be in the same care home. One of the woman in the care home with MIL was quite open about what she had done, she had been comfortable but her health was going down and she was told she would eventually have to go into a care home as her partner had died and she had no children, so she spent every penny she had on cruises and travelling and then spent a year living just on her pension until she had to go into the home and she was fully funded, she became my MILs best friend, but there was MIL who had never been one to spend much and every penny of her savings went on her care, if she had lived just two more weeks she would have gone onto fully funding and her flat would have then had a charge against it towards the fees, this other woman took out a mortgage against her home so that when it was sold there was basically nothing left, just enough to keep her in pocket money. So there you go two woman both in same home ( it was a BUPA home) both receiving exact same care but one fully funded as she did not have any money and one paying her own way as she had the money, yet one had, had a marvellous time spending all her money. Its not fair out there. Now he may never need to go into a home and if so then what I am saying is useless but just thought I would mention it.
Its a gloomy grey day today but hoping I can get in to side garden today to mark out where I want the beds for my vegetables as my first delivery is due any time now - potatoes and try and get son to come and cut out the beds for me.
Hugs and Love to all xxxNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

PAH: So pleased for you! And don't ever think you're being selfish talking about yourself - that's what most of us on here do anyway, one way or another!
It's a way of sorting thoughts, passing on tips, empathising with other folk, getting all the dark stuff out (and finding other people have dark stuff too) sharing, caring and daring!
Hugs to everyone who needs them, congratulations for any little (or big) successes out there.Normal people worry me.0 -
Well chuffed; my first great clothes charity shop find! I am now the proud owner of an Arctic Sto£m waterproof jackets in a lovely shade of teal and virtually brand new! In my size!
All for £6.
I've been looking for a lightweight coat/jacket for some time and just popped in to the shop as I was passing; always forget it's there. Also got a book on cats (more for my collection) and a Lee Childs book.
