meme30: My two are in their 40s and I defend my right to bash anyone who hurts them in any way!
VJsmum: I think a lot of doctors just refuse to admit their mistakes, even when faced with the evidence. Hope your dad improves soon, no wonder you're tired!
Managed to squeeze my poorly back into DH's car today and went to visit friends in Ludlow.
A lovely town, but our friends bought a small cottage 11/12 years ago and paid £52k. They've hardly had to do anything with it but now you could put a "2" in front of that figure. Michelin starred restaurants opened and all the foodies arrived from the South East, making it the so-called food capital of the area. Prices rocketed up (both housing and shopping).
On the way back we called at Ludlow Food Centre  OMG, £3.99 for a jar of Award Winning marmalade anyone? Over £2 for Artisan Bread? Everything looked lovely and it's all sourced from the local area or hand made on the premises, but really - and there were plenty of people there buying!
We drove off to Lidl to do our shopping - from the sublime to the affordable :)
    Normal people worry me.

    You must know the joke:

What's the difference between God and a Doctor?

    God doesn't think he's a doctor :D

(My grandfather, father and brother are all doctors... my mum and I regularly refer to this...)

HC Sounds like you had a lovely day, day out to a cottage to foooooooood capitol of Britain yum yum........I must not eat more now I'm not smoking :D

Boring day here, spend hours on the phone to Mr Ts CS as yesterday I asked them to source something they were out of at our local and they had some an hour and half drive away.........DH fault. Long story short we drove 120 miles and they had put by the wrong ones :eek:

first trip out since back went and was in blinkin agony, only went to keep DH company and could have cried when I got there. They have said they will only give me a gift card for £20 which does not even cover the fuel costs. I can prove it is their fault as the item they put by is not even in the catalogue :mad:

Does anyone remember them flat fold away sun loungers? like a long deck chair. Do you remember when they would collapse and bend you in two.........well that's how I felt today.......almost kissing my knees :rotfl::rotfl:

DH is feeling a little better as he has found out about four other people being bullied at work due to their downgrade, one of which threatened to go to the papers so now he feels a little better that it is not just him.

PIC I suppose that's good news of a sort, although it's a damn shame that anyone at all is being bullied. But there is strenght in numbers so maybe if your OH and these other four people got together and made a complaint then the horrible manager would get her comeuppance. I've been bullied at work before now by a manager and it nearly drove me over the edge. Unfortunately it was just me and her in a satellite of the main operation so I never stood a chance. Thankfully I was made redundant. It's a horrible, horrible situation, though.

Have just claimed a voucher for £2.46 through the Asda 10% cheaper thing. They weren't 10% cheaper than their competitors so I got the voucher. Unfortunately it's being added to my internet shopping account, which I only use when I have a free delivery code. So I'll have to check if the voucher has an expiry date. I might go and fish out a few paper receipts too, as you can do this with your shop receipts. You never know, it could be worth a try.

Someone on another thread, who lives in Australia, said that over there the GP controls everything. All follow up appointments after seeing a consultant are through your GP so they get to see the whole picture.

That was me and recently I've been very glad of the fact. 2 months of assorted tests, treatments and visits for me and fingers crossed but we have my ailments identified and in a few weeks we'll know if we're treating them well. I've felt for the past 2 months that my GP and I are a team, (a bit like Sherlock and Dr Watson!) I had confidence in him not giving up on finding what was wrong with me and he has always listened to me and what I've thought even if he hasn't always agreed... though he has tended to be right lol!

I've found it a bit disturbing though that with this current situation and also with previous medical situations that I have a knack of surprising people with what I turn out to have! It'd be nice to have something easy and common for once.

Anyhoo, if I want to avoid potential surgery I'm on a few meds and a low to no-fat diet (also avoiding things like tomato, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, certain spices etc...). As for what I can eat, answers on a postcard please! I'm also on 3 handful sized meals a day. Chances are at the end of this I could resemble Posh Spice, not just in figure but in scowl too. But at least I'll feel better otherwise.

I'm sorry I've been absent but I went from feeling sluglike, to feeling better physically to worse mentally (waiting for biopsys to see if there were pre-cancerous or cancerous changes to my innards) so didn't feel like being around.

Now, if anyone has any recipes for no-fat, no-sugar, no-citrus muffins I'm all ears.

More info on the Asda 10% cheaper thing. I just entered a paper receipt online (they ask for all sorts of receipt details such as till number, operator number etc but it's fairly easy to follow). I got a voucher for £1.05 to print out. It does have an expiry date of 3rd April, and it has to be handed to the till operator with the receipt in order to be valid. But basically it's a quid for a few minutes' work. I'll definitely be checking all my receipts in future!

Hi Softstuff, I've been wondering how you are. Waiting for test results is so hard, I'm not surprised you didn't feel like being around.

I'll look out for any muffins without all the above! :D

You are such a good cook too, it must be hard. If I see anything low to no fat I will let you know.

Sounds like you and Mar need to get together on this one... it sounds like a real challenge, and exactly the opposite of my current jelly and ice cream diet :rotfl:

Have you tried making frozen yogurt with 0% fat yogurt and fruit purees? I know the stuff I buy is fat free, but not sugar free, so you'll probably have to make your own, but it's something I find I really like when I'm ill. I ate it when I had a stomach ulcer, and I'm also eating it (when I can get it) with my current throat infection. It's soothing and easy to digest.

Good luck getting things sorted out. We did miss you :D

Thanks guys, I've missed being around, but have been feeling very selfish and sorry for myself so thought it was best avoided!

Byatt - I don't mind this from a cooking standpoint, it's a new challenge is all. And it sure doesn't stop me baking since I still have a hungry hubby, hungry neighbours and have developed a routine of sending hubby to work with muffins when he goes to the office. I just can't eat them, which is not as bad as I figured it would be (beats the alternative).

Greenbee - thanks for the "frogurt" idea. I'd forgotten about frozen yoghurt entirely. I've done it before with more fattening stuff, but see no reason it wouldn't work nicely with fat free. You can make a pretty good ice lolly with just blended bananas and a little milk too....

Kidcat - I have the results and I'm not cancerous or pre-cancerous, hence the diet and pills approach rather than the more sudden surgery. The next thing to see is if the diet and pills work, so I have to be a good girl. Or should I say more of a good girl :A ahem.

I'm not running short of meal ideas yet, I've also been figuring out what I can still have as take-away or meal out!

In the meantime, to show how much I've missed you guys, these were this weeks muffins:

    Apple and pecan muffins
    Makes 12

    2 large eating apples, grated
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 handful chopped pecans
100ml veg oil (or melted butter)
    1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
    2 eggs

Throw all the above into a bowl, mix like the devil until it's all nicely combined. Pop into muffin cases/silicon muffin tray and bake at 180 for 30 mins ish (until a skewer inserted comes out cleanish and they're a nice golden brown).
