I would welcome a kick up the derriere from those of you who are happy gardeners - I have yet to sow a single seed:o I am having a definate CBA'd period. I have to get my finger out soon or the chance will have passed me by.

Greyqueen I once read something by a French person about the moon. If you stick an imaginary straight line next to the moon and it forms a 'p' then the moon is waxing and heading towards being full (p for premiere or first half of the cycle). If you do the same and it forms a d then that is d for dernier or last half of the cycle and the moon is waning.

However this system does pre-suppose that you can actually see the moon .....

Really tired tonight - have had the period from hell (ie the 'monthly visitor") plus lodger boy hasn't been doing the washing up again so the kitchen looks like it's been bombed. Think I will take myself off to bed and start again in the morning .....

Elizabunny sorry to hear about your poor wee trees. I think one of my little cherries may have that silver thing disease that stone fruits get if they are pruned in winter, since the part of the roof blew off the chicken pen and decapitated it and it must think it's been pruned. I will have to wait and see.

    Night all xxx

:( Can't see it over my city; we're under rainclouds at the moment. It's described as "waxing gibbous" which sounds wonderful.........

I get quite bewitched by the moon. The best one I ever saw was on an winter's evening when I was biking to evening class; it was so huge it looked like a theatre backdrop, very low to the horizon and almost yellow. A clever friend once explained the moon's orbit to me with help from a diagram but I'm a bit dense and didn't grasp why it's sometimes closer to earth and appears humungous.

PS got a bit chilly and added argyle sox and a dressing-gown with teddies on it to my ensemble...........No sniggering at the back there, the dressing-gown was a c.s. find and I just had to lump the teddies. What is it with grown womens' nightwear; a helluva lot of it seems to have comedy-cute animals on it?

I mean, I am so not a comedy-cute-animal-person and some of mine has penguins, hearts and kittens on it. _pale_ And stupid slogans.............I dread being an inpatient in hospital again and having to wear such daft stuff in a semi-public environment. Still, I suppose it'd serve to amuse passers-by, and we all need more laffs in this world.

I love cutesy nightwear/PJ's although not on normal day wear. Reminds me of a pair of slippers I had in the shape of dogs, you know those great big OTT things. I answered the door wearing them one day and my neighbour said, OMG Byatt, what ARE you wearing?!

She came around to apologise afterwards but I thought it was hilarious. :rotfl:

The moon looking huge sometimes is an optical illusion (apparently). Close proximity to other objects when the moon is low gives the illusion that it is much bigger. This can be tested by holding a coin at arms length to just cover the moon at it's biggest - the same coin at the same distance will just cover the moon when it is much smaller. Personally I think that is Tosh, and the moon gets bigger when the cheese factory has gone into overdrive!

Of course you would not be surprised to know that any nightwear with owls on immediately falls into my shopping basket. I even have a PJ top with a glow in the dark owl on.. :D

This last couple of years I've taken to wearing a micro fleece to bed on top of everything else on cold nights as OH and the dogs steal all the covers.

Finally chitted the potatoes! Not that I needed to, as I'd waited so long most of 'em have stalks about a foot long. Whoops. Still, I've only dug one bed and that's not finished, so they'll have to chit a bit longer, won't they? :)

OH got new greenhouse box moved to my office so now its nearer the garden, tidied up back garden a bit and repotted 3 lavender plants I bought for Dd. Thats about it, dont want to jump in and go hell for leather in case I get an input of frost but nust really get moving or like Smileyt I will miss the boat.

Been scrutinising the supermarkets and as usual am scared by the price rises:eek: why has sugar gone up from 99p to £1.20 in Mr A in a week?? Got some for 69p from a new cheap shop so have 4 bags. The whoopsie prices, when you can get any, are what we were paying for full price stuff a few weeks ago.

Ds pleased me today by going to see my Mum with his girlie, thus relieving us of the duty for a couple more weeks. The stress of getting OH there is just about wearing thin. In fact him just driving anywhere local is too much at the mo. Mum is 83 tomorrow and is fitter than me. it takes me about 3 phone calls a day to keep her enthusiasm up but she still goes out everyday and does the odd shift at the Salvation army - bless her:)

Having ten minutes before I spring in to action/struggle to get out of the chair

Mrschip:- Lovely that the end is in sight for you (ok that doesn't sound right!!!) I mean the move of course!:p
Kitcat:- Well done on the party front, sounds a bit hectic for you this week but these are children's memories you are weaving. Very important! Keys!... good one!:)
GreyQueen:- Have closed eyes in attempt not to have them burnt out by your lovely/lurid nightwear!_pale_

Had a bu88er of a day yesterday. DD1 announced she is pregnant again, we were thrilled of course. Docs seeing her lately cos of abdominal pain sent her to hospital to check for ectopic pregnancy. Six hours, two scans and blood tests later, a doctor told her she was going to use her case as an example to her students! On the stupidity of sending someone in early pregnancy for a scan! Gp sounded right to be concerned to me. Hospital doc was scornful and up her own ****. DD very upset, took whole shine out of the day.

It's one of life's mysteries that the sack of potatoes you buy from the farm shop to eat and keep in the garage in the dark looks like it's turned into a sack of triffids in no time at all, but the seed potatoes you lovingly lay out in full light for the better part of a month hardly sprout at all
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

meme that's horrible. I had a suspected ectopic years ago and it is very frightening. Her GP was quite right to be safe rather than sorry especially as if a scan shows an ectopic and they catch it in time they can save the tube. Glad everything was well. She was bound to be upset by that doctor's attitude but hopefully she will be able to relax now.

Been having a few grot days lately, my back's been really bad (spinal stenosis) and doing the most mundane things has been a struggle. I tried going for a slow walk yesterday and spent the rest of the day flat out on the sofa.
    Sofa so good.
Bit better today, but not attempting anything too bendyness.
My potatoes are chitting nicely (sounds like a medical condition) but we had quite a frost last night so they can stay in their safe, warm little egg boxes.
OH sat on his glasses yesterday and has bent the frame, so has to go to the opticians to see if they can be fixed. Hope so, frames are SO expensive!
    Normal people worry me.
