I love the little dehydrator I bought a couple of years ago from Westfalia....cost me a bit extra as they don't deliver to ROI (why??) so I had to route it via my daughter in London, but I don't think in all that it cost more than €45.Have dried apples mostly but means that I always have fruit for puddings at the drop of a hat. Haven't thought of buying fruit/veg to dehydrate but will keep an eye out for bargains from now on.

Marie I do fruit so I can snack on it. I get very ripe fruit by the box from the local Asian shop. We actually got 4 boxes of fruit and veg for £1 a box and a box of garlic for £2 on Friday. I usually only get a couple of boxes but dh was with me and persuaded me to by all of them! Funny that I am the only one peeling chopping etc. There were , peaches, grapes plums, oranges, melons, aubergines,a cauli,,spring onions, mushrooms, kiwi, turnips, a potato, lemons and limes, some funny root things that taste like potatoes. and pomegranates. a strange cucumberlike thing, a chillie and a okra
My dried fruit is much cheaper than buying it from the supermarket.Their prices are scary.0 -

I was discussing it with some Americans and they said it is more versatile if it has a door. Some use it to make yoghurt by taking out the trays and putting a jug of it in there. One even said he used his to dry his trainers:eek:
It has been a sad day today. There was a terrible tragedy yesterday but I only found out this morning involving my daughters best friend. I keep going from feeling so sad to really angry. I can't openly talk about it for legal reasons but I wish when these things happen there was a bit more sensitivity from the powers who are called in to deal with it.
So sorry to hear this. I hope it turns out as well as it can. xxx0 -
VJsmum I can see you are an intrepid person too and I dont believe it ever really leaves you. I hope you will be able to do the stuff you want to do with your OH as I would have preferred to have done all this with mine but it wasn't to be (divorce). So... I'm doing it on my own. Keep telling myself it will be fine.

I will try to get on a computer when I am in Japan to tell you whats going on.
I wish people would stop saying how brave I am being - makes me feel I'm going to a war zone. But you guys don't say that maybe because we are all a bit similar and off the same old block. Thanks for that.
Byatt you will get your ooomph back. I sometimes think you just have to make plans and do them before you have to time to have doubts. Like jumping in the deep end with your nose pinched. If I can help to find your oomph and see off the black dog I will be glad.
Catbells, I understand how you feel about people saying you are brave; it's really annoying. I also hate the pitying looks when I say I am doing something "alone".
I am sure you will have a wonderful experience, and come back with an amazing feeling of confidence. I hope you are able to get online when in Japan. It's funny the last few days I've been thinking of just "settling" and not hanker after travelling to foreign climes, but you have helped make me feel that maybe I could, just take a jump into the unknown. Maybe not this year, but soon. :A0 -
I think its the most fabulous thing to do and not brave just fun. Takes ooomph and push and its all good Catbells. Re being alone and getting pitying looks - how many couples are trailing around with each other wishing like hell they were alone ? LOL Probly half the pitying looks are to hide deep green envy
Life is short, we should cram everything in that we can .

Not been on very much lately, feeling a bit bleugh. Can't seem to keep food down very well and having to eat hamster-sized portions of no-fat meals and its too bloody hard so I just drink tea instead!0

Mardatha - hope you feel better soon, and I do agree the idea of travelling alone sometimes is very attractive than dragging OH begrudgingly with me.0

Oh dear Mar - I seem to remember you mentioning in the past that they suspect gall stones, is that right? Is that why you are feeling so yuck? It can make you very nauseous (sp?), poor you.
Hopefully they will be able to do something about it soon for you. Big, gentle hugs and positive thoughts for you.0
