Mrs ChipAge is a strange thing - Mr OG is totally baffled at being 93 - he keeps saying 'but I don't think like I'm 93!' I think that says it all - do we every 'grow up'?
Just turned 60 and am off backpacking in the far east next week. Will be with my son for half the time who is living out there and on me jack jones for a couple of weeks. Yes I'm a bit scared but like an old fool I like to set challenges for myself. Hope I haven't gone too far this time. I've booked into hostels and I bet I'm the only one there of my age but didn't fancy being by myself in a clinical hotel room. And anyway, who would want to attack a slightly overweight old biddy:rotfl: I love young folks anyway as like Mr OG I don't feel my age (most of the time). Just hope I don't get cystitis or something age related. Its just reminded me to take some medications with me for that sort of thing - just in case.
Might see you out there Mardartha???:)0 -
I wanted to be an achaeologist too, and a forensic scientist and a silversmith - how come I spent 35 years in an office? :rotfl:
I wanted to be a shop assistant, a barmaid or a teacher. I have been all three
Now I would love to write. And keep chickens. I do a bit of writing (articles, conference papers) with work, but would love to do more - and not about building. Still no chickens though
My 15 year old DD desperately wants to be an actress - preferably in musical theatre. She is good - but I'm not sure she is good enough, certainly not for musical theatre. We aren't discouraging her though - in fact we try to enable it (drama classes, singing lessons). Tomorrow she is off for a 6th form interview for a high school with a performing arts specialism, so fingers crossed.
And talking of musical theatre
"Oh what a beautiful morning"And isn't it just? Blue skies and sunshine here - my aim is to go buy me some bags of manure and a garden sieve - y thing and set to on the veg plot, tidy up my patio pots and possibly get OH to trim the lawn. I have to go and buy some material to make a cape for a costume DD needs at school on Thursday which I will do while watching upstairs downstairs later. Dinner is an assortment of roasts from the freezer (a whole roast beef dinner for DD which we plated from left overs, nut roast for OH cos he insisted i made one a while ago and no-one else likes it much and theres LOADS, and left over christmas day roast pork for DS and I - with pigs in blankets and HM stuffing).
I hope the sunshine is with you all and enjoy your day.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

Absolutely good for you! I very much hope to be doing that too, (with OH hopefully) - especially in the far east. But if I find myself alone then I still hope i'd do it - and hope he would too. A few years ago we went to the US and, whilst visiting Yosemite National Park, we stayed in a youth hostel. THere was me, OH, DD and DS (who were 6 and 4) and MIL who was over 70. MIL LOVED it. She was the oldest one there by nearly 30 years - I bet OH was the second oldest - and she just loved chatting with the kids and being in amongst it. She was the object of much admiration for even being there! Unfortunately, she would never go by herself and I think it is a shame. Hope you have a fantastic time! Please share your experiences with us when you return.

Isn't it just a beautiful morning! We are going to upset the neighbours today because we've dusted off 'Fatima' our OzPig outdoor woodstove and I am going to make a lovely sausage and bacon stew for lunch - whenever we light her up , or light the garden incinerator you can bet your bottom dollar that someone will come round and complain. Howsomever, we live here too and try to keep her out of the way and away from the houses and cooking out is such a fun thing to do, they'll just have to cope! Who would have thought February could be like this?0

guess what the weather is doing on the west coast of Scotland????:rotfl:
Not actually sure the rain really stops here - just slows to a light drizzle before it starts up again0 -

Its fun but can be boring when all you are uncovering for days on end is the different earth layers, the excitement I felt when I actually found my first posthole though was worth it( I did a joint BA in Egyptology and Near Eastern Archaeology in early 1990's, although actually did 3 subjects doing Greek History and Archaeology in the first year as well ) never did any digs out there sadly when at Uni but have been to Dion - holiday till I told one of the staff I was a newly qualified archaeologist and got handed a trowel and did a bit of work as well as vist the Mt Olympus range, just Roman mainly. Sadly never found more than pot sherds and beads on the digs but have picked up some nice medieval pottery sherds and clay pipes on a local beach where the land is slowly falling on to the beach of a river and there was once a medieval settlement next to river. Wroxeter is a great Roman site. Thing is I am not a great lover of Romans but Britian sadly is covered in sites so always plenty of work to do for [STRIKE]dogsbodies[/STRIKE] students.
I was lucky enough to work as an archaeologist for several years. I started out as a volunteer washing pot sherds on a roman settlement in the Cotswolds, and ended up a few years later in charge of a team of 25 including some very hightly qualified professionals. It was very enjoyable, working as one of a team is a great buzz!
I think I got put in charge as I was good at leading the team, rather than interpreting potholes! It is really quite a controversial occupation, as to excavate something you inevitably destroy it! A great responsibility. Also no matter how clever you are, a few years later someone more clever comes along and disproves all your theories and hard work.
Such a lovely day today - I think I might venture out soon before the sun disappears!0 -

:T Will you be able to blog or write posts so we know how you are getting on? I for one would love to hear your exploits.
I really admire you; I have become such a slug and lost my ooomph, but you are an inspiration. :T0 -
Ohhhhh permission to rant, please!
My 'foster' son is driving me insane, insane, insane !
He had a bath late yesterday afternoon but stayed in all day, except for a quick trip to the corner shop to get some chocolate. He is going out this afternoon and when I get back from walking the dogs I find that he has run another bath! All that my environmental, MSE head could think was, "Aargh the waste and my fuel bills!" I really hope, for the planet's sake, that when he does get his own place it has a water meter .....
Perhaps I'm over-reacting. I do get money for caring expenses so I guess this is what it's for - but my green head cannae cope with profligate waste!! :rotfl:
And he's gone out without doing the washing-up  He said he didn't have time before he went out and then spent an hour wallowing in the bath and getting ready. I really don't understand - he has a shaved head and cultivates the stubbly look so it's not as if he had to style his hair and shave ..... honestly, toughies - all the boys I've had have spent far longer in the bathroom than any of the girls!!
Anyway, on a lighter note - I saw a group of cyclists in the park this morning and one of them was riding a penny farthing!
Right, off to get something useful done. Enjoy your Sunday!Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Hi Smiley, is he a teenager or early 20's?
I'm sure I read somewhere that the amount of water used in a shower can equal that in a bath unless you time yourself for about 2 mins in the shower. I do love a bath but have never been able to stay in very long like some people can. My younger brother could be in there for 2 hours!
edit: just one link of many...http://www.consumerenergycenter.org/myths/shower_vs_bath.html0 -
Smileyt I feel for you:)My Ds went to work the other day and had a shower before he went - I went in later turned the shower on to rev up and was drenched from head to foot - he had turned the shower head to face outwards - Gawd knows why :rotfl: It was actually funny at the time too. Girls are much much worse I find(see my post 2 years 9 months ago when DD announced she was pregnant :rotfl:) all those hormones.
DD's OH has just been to pick little man up as my OH is bed rideen with a tummy bug - ohh what a night lala - picking a large man up off the bathroom floor is no fun when you were happily asleep
Going to nip into back garden while he snoozes and tidy up a bit - the wind we have had over the last few months has sprinkled all my plantpots liberally around.
When I ran the CS's I met 2 ladies, one had a son who was actually a rocket scientist and the other ones designed rides for Blackpool pleasure beach and such places - wow! I always wanted to be successful selling my crafts but never really made much money, didnt stop my enjoyment though.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0
