Oh when you have these good ideas!....:(

We have started to decorate our bedroom. It began as a bit of paint and wallpaper, and has escalated to a full blown revamp!

Its 25 years since we bought new wardrobes and as DH said we are in our mid 50's and if we don't do this now in later years we will not be fit enough/afford to do it.
So we have to strip the walls, paint the ceiling, take up the flooring and take out the wardrobes (God knows where/what I am going to do with 25 years of stuff!) Followed by re-paper the walls, get a carpet laid and build some new wardrobes. Sounds simple when you say it fast!

I am exhausted just reading this never mind doing it!:(

I think it will take us a couple of weeks as DH is at work most of the time. I am here most of the time but am only able to do little bits at a time.
One good thing, I will be able to reuse one of the old wardrobes as storage for my hoarded food/tins/loo rolls. :T
DD's and I doing a combined A**roved Food order in a couple of weeks so am in dire need of extra storage.

Talking with friends and family at funeral yesterday, I was amazed at how many of them were worried about money and prices but had no intention/ideas of how to help themselves. I began to feel like an 'oddity' Only my brother and his wife were clued up on 'money saving' yet most of them admitted that things were getting hard for them. Many were my age so have lived in more austere times but people seem to have lost the ability to think outside of conventions 'box.' Amazed at how many of them haven't ever changed their energy supplier! Worrying.

PIC:- just read your post. Blimey! you have been through the mill. Pleased you seem to be coming out the other end of it. Sounds like you have a wonderful family to help you, big pats on the back for them. :j
Big Hugs for you as well. :grouphug:

grandma and scrabbles - I have been opening the post anyway - it started as a genuine error she shares the same first name and the first one was a credit card statement from the same company I have, I just glanced at logo and opened it, only when I saw balance did I realise it wasnt mine and look closely, since then I have opened it all and spoke to the companies.

I contacted the builders agent from whom we bought the house today (previous owners pxed house and we bought from builder) and spoke to the lady we dealt with, I have explained the situation and asked that she contact them on our behalf and request that they contact us and immediately change all details. She asked me to send the mail to her and she would forward but I have refused, I am sending it back to the companies concerned.
Oh has pointed out that the insurance documents today include car reg number, we know the new build estate they have moved to, so he is going to quietly drive along and see if he can spot the car, we can then give the address to anyone else looking for them.
One letter today included the husbands employers name too, so I have looked them up and if need be will use that address to contact them. All a bit of a faff though.

I think you need to be careful. Whilst it is legal to open the post in error, you cannot take these things too far such as searching for a car and contacting the man's employers. TBH it is enough to NOT open the post and return it with "Not Known At This Address" to the return address on the back of the letters. If this is a recent issue it could be that the re-direction has lapsed.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Kidcat I've had 2 instances of people not changing their address & both times it was intentional & an attempt at fraud. The first time it took months to sort out & we had visits from the police & baliffs etc, the 2nd time I nipped it in the bud, found their new address and informed every company by phone & recorded delivery.

    Morning All

This is likely to be my last post for a while so lord knows how I'll catch up when I'm back :D

Byatt great to see you posting again. Lovely that you treated yourself, very well deserved I think. I hope things can begin to improve for you.

Great news katieowl on the extra funding. I'd be very interested to hear how your classes develop and what ideas you come up with.

Massive but gentle hugs for PIC. I've had back problems on and off with the last episode being one of the worst (I kept passing out with the pain). It is so utterly debilitating, especially as you say when all you can do is lie in bed but even then you're not comfortable. I don't know if it's an option when you're better, but I've started pilates now and do as much walking as possible, and even after only 4 weeks I can feel myself getting stronger and I've not had any 'twinges' at all.
Massive well done on the not smoking! :T I have to fess up that I haven't managed :o Weak willed be my name :o but I AM going to do it.

Hello and hugs to anyone else reading who needs some :)

Today is my last working day for 10 days :j Bit of a mixed bag in store though. Tomorrow driving to my mum's as it's her birthday, so taking her out for a meal and doing some chores at her house. Back Sunday, frantically pack as up at 4am to get to the airport where we fly off for 8 days to Seville and Granada. Can't wait! It's my birthday while we're out there and for our last night OH has booked a surprise hotel which I'm guessing will be a nice one. The rest of the time we're staying in cheapy apartments which will be fab as I much prefer self catering.

Fly back on 28th and drive straight back to mum's. The 29th is the 4 year anniversary of my dad's death. Typically he died on the leap year so the 29th only comes round every 4 years. Mum has finally arranged that we can have his ashes interred at the crematorium. It will just be the two of us and no doubt an emotional day.

Not much OS to report apart from making a huge stir fry last night to use up all our veg which would otherwise go off while we're away. And then followed such a healthy meal with a large slice of chocolate cake covered in cream! Really must think about some healthier eating when I return!

I hope everyone is well as can be, and that you all have a good week. For those struggling, I genuinely hope things begin to improve. I know that the lighter and warmer mornings are helping me.

    :wave:xx

You could leave the post unopened (and I would say it would be best to do that, even if covered by the law). However, just write "Return to sender - addressee now living at such and such address" on the envelope.

In similar circumstances before now (ie where it was obvious someone was trying to steal from a firm and had used my address for this purpose) I just rang up the firm concerned and told them exactly what was happening and the address I had obtained for this person and that stopped any further letters coming to my place.
  • Morning everyone :hello:

I'm struggling to get back into the thread atm as I am just so busy but I do read when I get a chance.

We had a lovely half term and OH has been busy decorating again so the house is looking fresher in time for Spring. I will get going with the garden this weekend (though we are forecast snow) and start off my seedlings for me and the school.
OH is taking me out tonight so hopefully I won't be too wooly headed for gardening in the morning. :D

Kidcat, I would second what Molly says and just pop the letters back in the post with "Not known at this address" on them. We have had this problem before too.

PIC. What a time you've had. I hope you continue to feel better and better and well done on being smoke free. :T x

    GFN123 have a lovely time. x

    Enjoy your weekends everyone. x

I had the opposite problem years ago when I was sharing a flat with my sister - it was simply that the Post Office redirection hadn't worked completely (and had expired after 6 months) and the people at our old address had been getting quite a lot of our post. They hadn't done anything with it even though we had only moved two streets away and they knew where we were (because our cat kept wandering back there to visit the next door neighbour who used to give her a small tin of fish on occasion and I used to have to go round to collect her at least twice a week for the first month after we moved). They hadn't even popped it back in the post box.

When I eventually realised we went round to get it and they became extremely belligerent and threatening. Next day I was out and they came round and started ranting at my sister to the extent that the neighbours called the police. God knows why they took it into their head to take exception to the fact that some of our post had gone astray. It's not as if we were accusing them of anything and no money had gone astray or anything. Fortunately we had a lovely postie and he made sure that the chap at the sorting office on the round covering our old address gave him any post that slipped through the new redirection we put in.

So be careful - after all, they clearly know where you live as they sold you the house. If they are dodgy then you run the risk of a nasty scene
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • PIC: Hope your back problems (understatement!) continue to improve. I have spinal stenosis and some days you just wouldn't want to talk to me.
GQ: That was so funny. Maybe he was a flasher that just wanted to impress someone? When you get to pushing 70 you could be impressed by most things of that nature (I'm 71 btw)!
Off to get my hair cut shortly (geddit?) Forgive me hairdresser for I have sinned, it's been 6 weeks since my last haircut.
Time and money darlings, time and money.
    Normal people worry me.

PIC - Hope your back gets better soon, :) Whilst I have a "bad" back thankfully any flare ups have only ever lasted a day or two, I would be tearing my hair out at the idea of two weeks :)

I cant believe how quickly half term week has flown :(
  • Hobsonschoice - It's a bit like saying "my hair needs cutting badly"!

PIC - oooohhh, poor you, get well soon! I had a bad back that lasted 8 weeks a few years ago- couldn't bear to lie in bed, had to sleep in an armchair for weeks. So I do feel for you!
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
