Thats where the problem lies - saying no - I end up feeling bad and as though I have failed as a parent somehow. Have spoken to oH and we have agreed that we are simply saying no, its clear that the boyfriends parents knew and were consulted yet we were not - so as its such short notice we will say no. And I will then spend the day feeling guilty - and having my parents give me grief when she starts telling them how hard done to she is.
Or you could look on it as your duty to say no in order to help her to become a caring, well rounded personNot easy is it?
I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Thanks Kidcat, that does make sense! And I can only imagine how hard it must be for any parent to explain why some people are stuffing their faces with smelly food!
Smiley - I thought you might like to see a few of the cross stitches my brother has done - he can knock one off in a week! He has now taken up knitting and is just as good at that :rotfl:
Argh - make the page go wide nowThink big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
This child rearing lark isn't easy though and ideals are just that - ideals. I've probably painted a cosy picture, but it isn't always like that. We have our disagreements and our fights. Now the kids don't really like coming out with us. Bike ride? Forget it. Walk? Don't make me laugh. National Trust? :rotfl:
This made me laugh. We were the same with our kids - dragging them to NT properties & on walks.... accompanied by groans and "do we have to?"
DD is now married & has 2 children... imagine my reaction when she rang & told me they had joined the National Trust! :rotfl:
Can you believe she wondered why I had to be picked up off the floor? AND they take their kids on nice long country walks!0 -
Elizabunny - I find that when it is very cold things take longer in the SC. As mine is in the utility room which is unheated (except by the SC
) it can have a major impact in the kind of temperatures we have at the moment.
Thank you greenbee :A I hadn't even thought of that. I had mine in the conservatory yesterday which is unheated and it was freezing here yesterday. Hoping now that I won't have to replace the slo-cooker, as I love it, it's really old though (1980s), but it has a sort of earthenware dish inside which is really heavy but usually cooks really well. Thanks again:TSealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

Now to prove I am a caring well rounded person i need to organise a special dinner for OH and I tomorrow - not going to be easy as DS has started to bounce off the walls - the cough medicine that the doctor prescribed has done nothing to calm him (even though the doctor promised it would knock him out!!). So may be that I try one of these two can dine for £10 type deals as a cheat - taking my eyes off Ds for a second when he is in this mood is impossible, today he opened the door to my parents the promptly raced past them and straight across road took me half a mile to catch him.
NOt a pretty sight i can tell you.
I can happily report that the Doctors was a much improved experience, went in and booked, one lady was just walking into a doctors office, when she came out we were straight in, Doc was very good with Ds too, talking to him very much as I do and making extra time to explain everything. Better still we were forty minutes from leaving house to being home - as my mum said its usually twice that in waiting times alone.0 -

Teenagers are selfish, it's just their nature. It's good that you and OH are united in this, it's the only way to survive their levels of manipulation.
Byatt:- it's a b*gger when you feel like this. I hope you can get some help, just keep logging in and reading even if you feel you can't post. Someone will put a smile on your face, even a little spark of warmth is good when you are in a frozen wasteland. :grouphug:
My horrified moment of the day:- 2 year old granddaughter and I were in wallpaper shop this morning. She said she needed a wee and I said we would go in the next few minutes. As I paid at the checkout she squatted down at the side of the counter! I caught sight of her as I handed over my money and dived down sure that she had 'had an accident' Bless her she was looking at a 'Princess' wallpaper! Grandma had a near heart attack! Next stop was the ladies loos!! :rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Yes, he's very clever - lord alone knows where he gets his sewing skills from. He works really fast, and can freehand cross stitch designs. The 'Mum' one took him an evening. He' a strapping ex-biker - last person you would ever imagine doing such delicate work!
