Bruno- glad you're ok. We don't like porridge - try the oats uncooked with milk on if you don't too- we think they're lovely. jac.xx

    Morning everyone :)

I have done that with DH in the past and things changed for a while. I did lose my temper on Sunday when I just wanted to know what everyone wanted for dinner and no one answered me until an hour later when they were hungry and they asked what was for dinner. DH asked why I had to get so aggressive about it and I had to go upstairs to calm down before I really lost my temper. DH and the monsters ended up making toasted sandwiches for themselves and I had a talk with DH about how tired I get of trying to make meals that everyone will eat and having to decide all the time what to cook and knowing that chances are someone will turn their nose up at it.

I sooo know that one!!! I'd rather they told me what they want, however convoluted that make me decide what to give them. Of course menu planning really helped me with that, as I didn't have to think on the day - just have a blitz on it once a fortnight or something. I really should go back to it though, as I think it helps loads. A couple of suggestions though. On toast night once a week was written into my meal plan, when the kids were older they did this themselves, having egg, beans, sardines, cheese etc. whatever they fancied on toast The other thing we quite a bit now, especially with the food intolerances in the family, I cook a pan of potatoes, and slice up one of those little Ald! hams. We then go through the fridge using up the ends of pickles, make salad, or heat up leftovers to go with it, then they help themselves...VERY popular with everyone.

  • SMILEY - such good news about Bruno, hope he has now fully recovered from the ordeal of the vet visit. Its no wonder you feel exhausted , I think we all stay on an adrenalin high until the results come back and it doesn't matter what they are, you always feel like a wrung out towel afterwards. Thats when I usually get the migraine!
  • Hello, may I join you? I have been a lurker on and off for a while but have finally plucked up courage to join in! I am 39, live with my husband and 9 month old son and have found becoming a mum the hardest thing I have ever done in my life! Also the most amazing thing ever but I really wasn't prepared for the huge changes having a baby would bring. I am now on the unpaid part of my maternity leave until I return to work in April and hoping to eek out my money for the next 3 months.

I used to menu plan and try to cook from scratch - that went out the window when bubs came along, didn't know if I was on my head or my heels! Now I need to start getting more organised again and get a tighter grip on my spending. Our grocery bills have rocketed as we've been buying for convenience instead of doing things from scratch. We are hoping to build some raised beds in the spring and start growing our own veg but we only have a little garden so it won't be loads. Looking forward to teaching little one about growing his own food and having a healthier liefstyle.

I don't have much advice to give I'm afraid but do enjoy reading all the tips and posts when I have time. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to pop in but wanted to introduce myself.

Hope everyone has a good day.
  • Hi, waving madly, from a very cold and white place - alas not snow but ice, its -5c (brrrrr) outside but does make everywhere look pretty as sun is shining. Poor birds were looking sadly at their water bowl - its 2ins deep and water was just a block of ice, so sorted it and immediately one of the little sparrows jumped in to have a wash, while I was still standing nearby, must have been desperate poor thing.

I am so glad smiley about Bruno, such a relief, can just imagine you hearing then bending down and giving him a big, big hug.

Day 13 of me not smoking and I have a form to fill in to take with for my mammogram this afternoon, and one of the questions is 'Are you a smoker? Yes/No and you can guess what I will put, first time I will have officially put I am a non-smoker although I must admit I still feel like a smoker who just hasn't smoked, for me I think it will be a while before I actually feel like a non-smoker.

Do you know I never thought that maybe high carb breakfasts didn't work for me, I just thought I was just a greedy thing feeling hungry a short time after having cornflakes, porridge etc for breakfast so after reading the posts here I made my breakfast of cheese omelette with some very sad looking mushrooms and am now truly stuffed, been up since 6am but back to normal not wanting to eat for ages after getting up, unlike last week when I was starving from moment of waking thankfully body has adjusted, although I did have a low of blood sugar yesterday - suddenly badly shakes, and I know must eat, so had some bread with cheese, don't get them often but first time I had one I though for some reason panic attacks had come back, although felt calm, had them after daughter died, and tried to relax and ended up passing out, paramedics came ( hubby dialled 999 in sheer panic) and explained what had happened and gave me some glucose but said take carbs when it happens to slowly get blood sugar up, thankfully they didn't cart me off to hospital.

MrsLW I have always been like that - deal with stressful situation, be it a day or a week then once its over bang migraine, its so annoying, instead of just relaxing that whatever it is, is over, flat out in bed in the dark.

GQ I cannot wear a watch unless its a wind-up as I flatten every battery with in a day, I even tried nurses type and nope no good, its so annoying, have some beautiful watches and can only wear them as jewellery.

So far house is warm enough still on 18c, not needed to put it up, thankfully insulation seems to be doing its job well.

Oh well better go and have a shower, must remember not to put body lotion or powder, on those certain bits.

    Stay warm and safe everyone

Smileyt am so glad my little mate is ok ...sigh of releif! I hope you feel a bit better now, it must have beena big burden knowing how much you love your doggies, x

Not having much fun here, OH is very poorly with bad case of brinchitis so we is house bound again. Had to take my friend to the hospital today to have a cast put on his broken foot (last weeks crisis) and Oh couldnt drive him at 7.30 am so I walked round and put him in a cab - literally as he couldnt manage - and asked the taxi driver to look after him, and he did, bless him. In the process I fell and landed on my bad knee so now I am struggling too. OH was well enough to pick him up at 10.30, basically he had to just drive and wait while I rescued Steve. On the way home I nipped into micro direct for a new keyboard for Steves Pc and realised the guy serving me was an old school friend, he was shocked I recognised him after 30 odd years.

Now got Oh wrapped up on the couch, Steve wrapped up on his couch and alls quiet for now - learned not to speak too soon :rotfl: Tea is bubbling away in SC and am going to try Winchelsea's idea with the scone mix as I have a bag too with the same problem. Think I may have to take it east for a few days, thank goodness I am all stocked up!

Hello everyone. Still feeling relieved today and a bit zonked still too. but happy, of course! Bruno is currently sunning himself on the cushion in a big patch of sunlight. He looks so cute and snuggly that I am having to fight the urge to get down there with him and give him a big cuddle!

Ginny, ouch! Take it easy, falling is a shock to the system so you might be a bit shaky later. I hope OH makes a speedy recovery from his bronchitis. If it's not one thing, it's another, isn't it?

  • Hi Thelma :hello:

Don't worry about having 'tips' as such, this thread is about support as much as anything!

SmileyT so happy for you and Bruno. Waggy tails all round!

Ginny (((hug))) sounds like you are going through it a bit at the moment. Take it easy!

I used to make my own laundry gloop but while I was poorly I tried using value shampoo and it's so good I might not bother making my own anymore. I use about half a cap of shampoo per wash and it's got everything really clean, smells nice, and no lather or build up problems. It's got things really clean, it's even got a few 'permanent' stains out of things! I'm surprised how much the cost of value shampoos varies between the supermarkets but it works out at less than 2p per load wherever you buy it. Just thought someone might find this useful!
