On my way, Kate, on my way...:rotfl:
I have never understood why cereal is promoted as a breakfast food, I find it never keeps me going until lunchtime, even so-called slow release oats (I do like porridge though!). When I did low-carb the breakfasts were great - full english (minus toast), or prawn or egg mayo, or huge salad with prawns and ham, or cheese - sounds weird but once you got your head round the idea, was fine! Anyway, I was never, ever hungry at lunchtime. Even so, I fall for the advertisers dribble and have it now. Once we start working I think I will start a regime of breakfasting like a King (queen), lunching like a prince/ess and dining like a pauper/ess :rotfl:. We will be working evenings, and mornings will be free-ish, so makes sense to turn our meals on their heads. Much better for you too, and with two decent meals in us we will be less likely to 'pick' at the produce.
Re the spices - a small confession - when I made beef stew and dumplings on Saturday I erm, ahem, um, sort of burned it a bit (a lot) onto the bottom of the pan - it was the fast boiling for the dumplings what did it. I told OH to just pretend it had been cooked on a cowboy campfire, but it was a bit yuck, the rather smokey overtone was not good. There was a lot left, and no way was it going in the bin, so I pimped it up tonight - fried some onions and garlic, added a small carton of passata and a good teaspoon of hot smoked paprika - see what I did there? it was fabby, served with buttered penne, very Hungarian. Much nice than Saturday and no hint of burning at all. Might help someone who has singed their tea just a little bit :rotfl:.
Well done GFN, x fingers it all goes your way!
I bought us a pair of YakTrax each last year, after the terrible snow in spring... doubt we will ever need them here now, and I paid full price
:(.

Mama67, sounds like you have a lovely boy there. They do tend to look out for each other, but at that age can't do much as they don't have the resources themselves. That is a shocking figure for homelessness, I know it doesn't necessarily mean sleeping on the streets but sofa surfing permanantly isn't much fun either. I do feel for this age group, partly because I have one of my own, but also used to work with teens in the late 80s when they lost rights to benefits (Thatcher govt) and remember the fallout then. They are often the people least likely to ask for help too. Has opened my DDs eyes being at college, as her life before was fairly sheltered.
GFN, fingers crossed about the job!
Katie, I also have blood sugar ups and downs, I think protein is the thing, also wholegrains, muesli with lots of nuts, or eggs - I love toast, but usually doesn't keep me going as well as either of those.
Loving all the cat stories - used to love the Mog books too - our fave was Mog and the Vet.0 -
mrs chip that was a brilliant save!
I get funny looks from the family when I have things like cheese and fruit or ham and something for breakfast but you are right, you do feel fuller for longer. If I have cereal I am hungry an hour later.0 -
ooh my stew was lovely even if I do say so myself
Totally stuffed now so the jam tarts will have to wait .
Been trying to decode a genetic paper, written in doctor speak my brain is hurting but I put my mind at rest about one thing *google is a scary thing* and I'm off to the docs in the morning for my blood test so will get him to tell me if I've understood it properly this time:rotfl:
Luckily I don't mind blood tests as the bottle is about 4 times the size of a sample pot  god only knows how much they want!
I'm gonna have a humdinger of a bruise I know that..they can never find a vein as I'm too tight to give anything away lol.
Glad to hear you're defrosting well VJ'sMum,wonder how GFN has got on today?
Still have a bit of lingering snow but its defrosted well today so hoping DS1's driving test will go ahead as planned tomorrow.0 -
Gfn - well done.
Scrabbles - I cried at the very idea of the book, obviously I am more tired than i thought
Vjsmum- congratulations - our boiler fan broke at the beginning of winter, thankfully it was when I was testing the system and my dad knows an engineer who came same day and got it all fixed again. I would have been lost if it had happened now.
Its been another long day, Ds school was closed, DD was ill so didnt go to college, so just took the other two into school then went to order more parts for sickly little car - cost a fortune. But more worrying was the number of parents in the vicinity of Ds school all with kids in uniform looking confused at school being closed. I had a couple of calls from irate parents whose kids were off last week so had no idea - can just imagine what the office will face in the morning.
had a few bits to collect from nearby town and then ventured into Pizza HUt with DS for lunch - was very MSE and used the kids eat free voucher. It was nice to spend time together and its also great for his socialisation training (blimey sounds like a puppy!!). He was excellently behaved and proof that with the right sort of attention and one to one he is manageable.
Kicked myself up bottom and registered with the carers centre today and joined the local ASD group which means that all the kids can attend a free trampolining session weekly, and i will get to network with other parents from across our borough so hopefully helpful.
had to collect OH from work today as car was in for its repairs - was exceptionally very unOS too, stopped at motorway services and grabbed a coffee to keep me going. The though occurred that I could have driven a bit further and pulled into Ikea instead and paid considerably less but I will remember next time.
managed a quick dash into Mr A at whoopsie time, how selfish are some people, one couple had two trolleys that they used to block everyone else off while they cleared the fruit and veg section of all they wanted - including 15 cartons of cherries. Did manage a few bits but was disappointed at how little the stuff was reduced.0 -
Good news - Bruno's results are back and the lumps were benign! :T:j:beer::j:beer::T:T:j:beer::D:j:beer::T:T:D:D:j:T:beer::j:j:j:j:beer::D
I can't tell you how relieved I am.
I am also absolutely exhausted and aching all over. I don't know if I'm coming down with something or if it's just the tension seeping out. Anyway, I am going to make him an appointment for Friday to have his stitches out and hopefully that will be that.
GFN, glad you feel the interview went well.
I'm off to read my book for an hour before bed. No snow here and it has been a tropical 6 degrees C for which I am very grateful.
Good night, sweet dreams all xxAspire not to have more but to be more.

Still trying to be frugal...0 -
Oh no - they've just showed how to make HM butter from cream on superscrimpers - I'll never find any reduced cream now!And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...0

Yay Smiley, so pleased that the news is good - well done Bruno!:j:j:j
Anyone know where Gailey is - is she posting anywhere else, she's been missing for a few days?...Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
smiley, great news, what a relief. :T:j
gardenia, that's what I thought. Haven't found any cheap cream since Xmas.
Mrs C, I've been wondering about Gailey. I wrote a long post earlier in which I asked about her, but somehow lost the whole post and didn't have the will to write it all again. She did say she was feeling poorly I think in her last post. The rescued stew sounds yummy!
GFN, sounds like it went well, the fact you were relaxed and enjoyed it I think is a good sign.
Scrabbles, my DD loved the Mog books; they really caught her attention (being an Aspie I used to try and find books she would enjoy). I'm not sure who was more upset when she died though. Couldn't read the book without crying. So well written.0
