I too am not diabetic but get sudden slumps in blood sugar, especially when I'm out walking. Have to be very careful as to when I go as certain times of the day seem worse than others. Having lost 4 stones in weight in the last 2 years I do have to ensure I snack sensibly...
You might find porridge if you can bear it keeps you going for longer than cornflakes. There's one breakfast my dietician included in my meal plan than seems better than anything- poached egg on toast with grilled tomatoes and mushrooms and taking fruit with me on my walks / shopping trips seems to help boost the blood sugar enough to get another surge of energy.
If you are weight watching it really helps. Chocolate or sweets seem to give a sudden sugar rush to the system but being simple sugars cause another sudden drop fairly soon afterwards.
Above all else knowing your most vulnerable times of the day and planning activities accordingly can be useful.
Walks here have been cancelled for tomorrow due to the weather and walking out with poles have still managed 3. 37 miles today but am totally whacked!! It's such hard work walking in these conditions!
Henry Hoovercat appears to have taken up residence by the kitchen radiator and has communicated his purrfect satisfaction with his night time billet in this awful cold weather!! He remaons a very clean and pleasant animal to have around. He's well on the way to adopting us as staff!
Having prepared the meal ahead so OH only has to grill the meat, put the gas under the steamer and make gravy I'm having one off this evening.
It couldn't be simpler.. Bet he makes an announcement about how HE's done the cooking tonight!
Better go and get on with the rest of my short story for tomorrow's creative writing group.... if it runs that is. Why does everything stop when we have a bit of weather here in the UK?0 -

Oh good it's not just me!!! I find porridge is almost as bad as cornflakes TBH, although I bought some oat bran and sometimes beef it up with a dollop of that as it makes it extra nutty!
A cooked breakfast is the thing that works best of all for me too, thanks for reminding me of that. I should make more effort, after all I am the one who runs the 'show' and if I go down it all goes to hell in a handcart.
I've been like this since I was really young, but I've had a few more pronounced episodes lately. Stress seems to make it REALLY bad... I can get to the point where I actually struggle to find something to eat and I've had to just tell OH to just find something. I try to avoid sugary stuff, as that makes it much worse. If I'm a long way from home I try and eat sushi or bananas, failing that a pasty! That seems to help!

Firstly, WOW, what a lovely supportive bunch you are (well, I knew that already!). Thank you all SO MUCH for the good wishes. Snow has mostly melted here so the journey was fine and the interview went really well
Even if I don't get it, I actually enjoyed meeting the people and chatting, I felt I did my very best and they responded well. So I left feeling happy and content.
Scrabbles I was too slow to catch up and see you've resolved it, but quoted HC to say I entirely agree!Hobsons_Choice wrote: »Scrabbles: If I gave you cushions for the cat to use, I'd be flattered to know they were being used on the sofa.
Glad to hear they're now gracing your sofa, and as a double bonus the cat is enjoying them.:)I'm gonna put my Yaxtrax on in earnest for the first time today, to walk the huge distance up to the office. Most annoyingly, they are now on offer in Go Outdoors for £7.50 with a card, which is several £ cheaper than I paid for mine (and I bought 3 extra sets as gifts for the family).
I tried mine out for the first time yesterday and found them to be excellent - highly recommended as even my good walking boots aren't slip-free in icy conditions. Like you I paid full price as I really wanted to have them available, never mind!GFN123 best of luck!I wasn't exactly "chatted up" on Saturday night, btw; more insulted and invited to perform a sexual act on the street. At 7.30pm!!!!!!!!! Jeez, reminds me of why I detest being in the city centre on Saturday nights. And me a respectable woman in a good-quality ankle-length coat, I'll have you know ((huffs to self)).
Thank You
And oh, oopsI misinterpreted. Well, errrm, on the bright(ish) side, he wouldn't have so offered if he thought you were hideous [tenuous silver lining]. I always get far more comments dressed smartly and respectably for work than if I've made any effort for a night out, maybe ankle length wool is the new 'saucy'?!
Katieowl - can we come to yours? All that chocolate, baking and cooking sounds right up my street!
VJ - hooray for new boiler :jIn my old house mine packed in and I went for over a week without it, so can appreciate the joy of getting it replaced!
Well after my interview I picked up Moved-In-Friend and we went suit shopping for his new job which was fun. Bless him, he's now making us all a curry and opening his leaving present champagne to celebrate a good day. I'm absolutely shattered so lots of food, drink and early to bed for me.
Thanks again for all the good wishes. I'll hear by Fri so of course will keep you updated!
Hope everyone has a lovely eveningProud to be a moneysaver0 -

Oh bless! I collect childrens' books and one of my favourites is the last of Judith Kerr's Mog books, Goodbye Mog. Mog goes to sleep forever, but her spirit stays to keep an eye on the family's new cat. I like the idea of that. It's a very good book to teach young children about bereavement too, but I still can't read it without crying buckets.0 -
With regards to the Quantative Easing would it be worth us posting ideas on how we will be trying to sidestep rising inflation..it's too early in the morning for me to start us off and lack of sleep is hurting my remaining few braincells but I'll pop back later after my caffeine infusion

A lot has already been mentioned but one thing which made a massive difference when we were on our uppers because of the recession in the early 90's was having plenty of herbs, spices, soy sauce and worcs. sauce etc. You can turn just about anything into a tasty meal if you have these in. They are things I would have been reluctant to buy when money was already tight but having them in my cupboard was a godsend.
I had some physio today and decided to go to Mr S since I was close by. There weren't many food bargains but I got a lovely red jumper and cardigan from their soft touch range for £3 each in the sale. Even Dh was impressed because even jumpers in charity shops are at least that.0 -
PS Can I join the porridge haters club please?0

Well we still have a lot of snow here, and we woke to a -4 this morning, he as remained cold all day, not much thaw either, forcasted daytime temps all this week at 1 degrees. and night time lows at -2 and 3 so its definately not getting any warmer, plus theres more snow forcasted for tonight, so winter is definately here...........
Ive been busy decorating again today, only problem with doing it in the winter you cant have your doors wide open until stupid o clock of a night to get rid of the paint fumes out .............
I feel as if ive got the start of a cold coming:mad:you know when the back of your throat is like sandpaper., ive been on the roller doing the ceiling I gave it 2 coats in the end and it as covered nicely, so was I .!!.......Anyone else noticed how the price of paint has gone up so much?.I had new 7 litres of matt dulux emulsion in the shed and thought good I dont have to go out and buy paint but when I opened the new tin it was like water so I gave it a good stir and it wouldnt cover anything ,it was so runny, not nice and thick like dulux paint is , so I ended up buying some more 5 litres white matt dulux £31 I could have fainted:eek::eek:......I had to buy it local cos its too far to get to B&Q when im in the middle of a job.......thats a lot of bucks £31............But I do like white ceilings , so I have to pay for them.........Got loads more decorating to do but at theses prices for paint I will have to do one room at a time.......I hope your all keeping warm and fed in these cold conditions.........0 -
