Oh bless! I collect childrens' books and one of my favourites is the last of Judith Kerr's Mog books, Goodbye Mog. Mog goes to sleep forever, but her spirit stays to keep an eye on the family's new cat. I like the idea of that. It's a very good book to teach young children about bereavement too, but I still can't read it without crying buckets.

Scrabbles - I cried at the very idea of the book, obviously I am more tired than i thought :)

I'm with Kidcat on this one. I haven't read this one, but my kids loved all the others, which we've still got. I don't think I could cope with reading Goodbye Mog at the moment.

smiley, great news, what a relief. :T:j

    I second this!

gardenia, that's what I thought. Haven't found any cheap cream since Xmas. :(

No, me neither. Somehow I feel HM butter will just never happen for me :rotfl:

Hope everyone is doing OK - Byatt are you still smiling about the Welsh win yesterday? I am :D. I was trying to explain to someone today about why I enjoy rugby so much - in the end I gave the default "I'm Welsh, its genetic" reason. Like loving Tom Jones...
And I find that looking back at you gives a better view, a better view...

Smileyt Great news about Bruno, I am so pleased for you

shegar Hope your cold is better soon.

It's freeee-eeeeeezing here again and we have lots of snow on the ground. I did manage to clear a path to the garage this morning. Had to get hay from the storage box for my bunny or he would not have been a happy boy. I am so glad we decided to have him as a house bunny, especially in this weather!

I cannot wait for spring to come so I can begin sowing and growing again. I bought 3 grow bags and 3 bags of organic fruit & veg compost at the weekend. I have some seeds ready so I am already to go, but the greenhouse needs a good clear out first and it's just soooooo cold. Definately too cold to me.

    Keep warm everyone!

Having prepared the meal ahead so OH only has to grill the meat, put the gas under the steamer and make gravy I'm having one off this evening.

It couldn't be simpler.. Bet he makes an announcement about how HE's done the cooking tonight!

I have one of those too! A while back we tuned Sunday into 'Be nice to Mummy day' after OH and I had a blazing row when he blithely announced how fed up he was of doing OT on a Sunday as it meant he only has 1 day a week off! I exploded (having just had a particularly hard couple of weeks) and asked him (with a fair amount of !!!!! and ***** included) just when he thought I got a day off with a newborn (at the time), a 2 1/2 years old with additional needs and a large and useless lump (him) to look after? Pointing out that many of the things I do I can only do once he gets home and DD climbs onto his lap and stops mithering me for all of 20 minutes. The rest I do once the kids are in bed so I'm still on the go long after he has dozed off on the sofa. He yammered back but an hour later he sheepishly came and gave me a hug and suggested that when he gets back from work at about 10 on Sunday he should take over and let me just do the nice cuddles and leave him the cooking and smell nappies! I tend to cook up something on Saturday that can be finished off or just heated up quite easily as otherwise we would get sausage, chips and beans every Sunday, however each week he puts the dinner on the table and says 'look what Daddy cooked for you guys!'

Smiley - Fantastic news about Bruno, so pleased for you both

    Morning everyone :)

Smiley that is wonderful news :)
stiltwalker I have done that with DH in the past and things changed for a while. I did lose my temper on Sunday when I just wanted to know what everyone wanted for dinner and no one answered me until an hour later when they were hungry and they asked what was for dinner. DH asked why I had to get so aggressive about it and I had to go upstairs to calm down before I really lost my temper. DH and the monsters ended up making toasted sandwiches for themselves and I had a talk with DH about how tired I get of trying to make meals that everyone will eat and having to decide all the time what to cook and knowing that chances are someone will turn their nose up at it. Then I asked why, when he knows how upsetting I find this, he can't take the responsiblity of deciding what is going into his stomach once in a while. I'm not hopeful that things will change, but I would be happy to be proved wrong.

Leicester had snow on Saturday and now we have lots of ice around instead. DH didn't get called out yesterday so spent the morning in bed until I turfed him out and got in as I had a migraine. So I dozed away more than a few hours. I did manage to cook dinner as DH didn't have a clue and had used all the sandwich fillings/pizza toppings I had brought by then.
Today I'm meant to be having a gym assessment at 10.30am, then lunch at my friend Marie's and DS1's parent's evening. I must remember to make dinner this afternoon so it's ready when we get back. I'm wishing I had some yaktraks as I'm terrified of falling over. Unfortunately my shopping trolley won't fit into a gym locker otherwise I would use it as a stabliser. Fingers crossed I manage to stay upright.
Take care and stay warm everyone xxx
  • I got some really cheap scone mix from "Big Brands 4 Less" some while ago. As it's well past its BB date, the baking powder component isn't working any more. So, I mixed in a bit of yeast and some currants and spice yesterday, and have a couple of nice little loaves to slice and butter.

Well, I have already sliced them up - half a loaf now in the bread bin, one and a half divided up and frozen in small parcels (which is the way I treat my normal HM bread - otherwise with only me here it would go stale before it was consumed - not like when DH was around - talk about snow in July, he loved his bread - and never put on an ounce!)

I too was wondering where Gailey had got to. Wanted to ask her if she was coming to the Bristol meet next month.....are you, Gailey ?
