Afternoon All!
Winchelsea - so sorry.
And hugs for all with poorly furry friends and those having a tough time.
Rug update - washed, still drying, no sign of any stain at the mo.
Time will tell!
Cripes it's cold here today, but no frost, just damp cold, the worst sort I think. Not looking foward to a prolonged period of cold unless we can get rid of the murk. Some nice bright sunny winter days is what we want!
I broke my 'no spend on garden' rule today and bought a mini greenhouse from Wilkos for a tenner. Too flimsy to go up in the garden, but will be a good halfway house for plants in the yard. Before then I might put it up in the dining room. I will struggle to find anywhere warm here for seeds, as the heating only goes on at 4 for a couple of hours, so no warm windowsills. I can rig up a bit of gentle heat at the bottom of the house to help germination.
Oh and also got a £1.49 blackberry plant from poundshop - as the garden is (or was!) full of brambles, I guess it will be happy up there!
Kate - I would love to meet for a coffee, OH is going back up to London on Wednesday, so I will be a free agent for a few days! Let me know when - Mrs OG might come too?
OH never gets out of bed a second before he has to - and he is 51! Drives me mad, as I am pretty much the opposite. At this time of year it's not too bad - but in the summer I love getting up really early and getting out in the garden, and I just can't understand why he doesn't too :rotfl:!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -

Wrap up warm everyone, I for one will be turning to the hot choc at bedtime.
I think it hasn't been such a bad winter this year - at least, it hasn't where I am. Nowhere near as bad as last year, anyway. I hope it isn't cold on Wednesday - landlord is having the bedroom window replaced :j which is great as we've had to cover it with bubble wrap to keep the warm in, but we've a little bungalow so with a huge window out all morning, it's going to be hard to keep warm.
Mrs Chip I don't have many warm windowsills either, but most stuff will still germinate if it's cooler, they'll just take a little longer about it. Which reminds me, I'll have to get my seeds out to sort through - they are stored in OH's bait freezer so they'll need to defrost :rotfl:
Found some good bargains in the charity shops earlier. Got a Harry Potter Lego set for £3, will be a great birthday prezzie for my friend's daughter next month. Also a set of 8 board books, each with a little felt finger puppet of a farmyard animal, for £1. They were cheaper because there should have been 9, there was a gap in the presentation pack. So I just chucked the presentation box in the recycling, and bingo! A complete set of 8 booksI will give them to my nephew when I next see him (they don't live local). And, I got a My Little Pony 1987 annual which I had when I was a kid, that I will craft with for stuff to sell in my Etsy store (less insane than it sounds, I promise).
I also got some portabello mushrooms for 9p reduced so I will be serving a stuffed mushroom starter this evening. It doesn't really go with toad in the hole, but never mind.
Hope everyone is having a good afternoon x0 -
Hope the bunny is ok eliza. We spent last night cleaning up after our cat started projectile vomitting, took two hours of her throwing up all over the place, then she stopped had a wash and sat on my knee!! been fine again today - strange how animals can be sick and then better within hours.
Well its official, I have a piece of paper that says my DS is autistic. I cried - even though I knew it and had fought for it, reading something cold and brutal was hard. It does mean that his school placement will be assessed and changes made to ensure the provision is suitable. The specialist there agreed that our current concerns are appropriate and that she will instigate the changes necessary.
Have spent nothing today at all, which is good and meals are all sorted so no nipping out for something and spending loads.
And as I raced round and tidied this morning I now have a tidy house that I hoovered bits of, DS7 did some, my dad did some more and then DS13 came in and did his bits, so for the first time in ages it looks presentable!0 -
ELIZA BUNNY........My little chihuahua kept wetting our bed, as shes quite small she as always slept with us but a month ago I kept noticing wet patches everywhere so I took her to the vets to be told that they can help her with tabs everyday, so she has been on them for a month and as now started weeing again , so I now sleep her in a cage with a very nice warm blanket..................Now she as started to wet on the living room rug, it wa quite a few days before I realized it was wet as its a dark colour plus I always wear slippers and when I rolled it up she must have wet at least 20 times on it, so it went to the dump today, it was a beautiful 8X8 rug, never mind...............I expect I will have to go back to the vets again another £80 I expect..., she is 14 now so you never know what to expect do you.?...
KIDCAT.....Im sorry to hear your son as autism but there is a lot of children with that, plus its hard work for you, I hope you get some sort of help.......
The weather forcast is cold and snow for the week a head so I must get out tomorrow and buy a couple of containers of milk, ive got a lot of food in the freezer so I dont think we will go too short, but its always milk that you run out of first.........Its been so cold, dank, damp, and hail and rain today, typical January weather........I hope your all keeping fed and warm........0 -
Hope you OK kidcat, funny how we can have such mixed feelings over things which we know will have a positive effect. Sounds like you have a good specialist there.
Arranging a CAF for my DD at the moment as she is going into an early years setting in September and I would really like to ensure that everyone is working on the same page. Quite sure there are going to be a few wobbles along the way but thankfully our inclusion officer is a real treasure and I'm sure she'll help make it as easy as possible.
Right must go and get my derrière in gear as I have loads to do. Need to make some pack lunch stuff as between banks holiday caused short weeks and OH having a fortnight off I haven't really got back in the swing of things since Christmas. (How long ago does that seem now??!!)
Hugs to all in need.0 -

Just lost a post before I could preview it -What a nuisance!
Winchelsea
Sorry for your loss. Hope you find the strength for the days ahead
Hugs((())) to all who need them right now.
Had a rest day yesterday from my eternal walking and stayed in all day!- took the time to prepare a braising steak casserole for my ove=n on slow cook- 10 oz steak and a load of veg including chickpeas made a large and tasty casserole - enough for tonight as well
I use our local weekly market when I can and their £5 trays of meat at the butchers are very good value.
We went into town today to sort out OH's ISA and also as he rarely goes out these days) had lunch at his favourite place whic was tasty and reasoanbly priced.
In spite of his op last June which gave him back his mobility he HATES walking and is totally tracked into his old banger ( my old Micra) ... I HAVE to walk to help with weight control and bone density. One doesn't lose 4 stones & keep it off by using the car all the time. He can't get his head around my insisting on walking back from town after we.ve driven in. So I tend to tip up just before dark having walked 3-5- 4 miles. I'm whacked but at least I've done my exercise...!
Have to turn in a short story for tomorrow afternoon's creative writing group. It's amazing how the rest of a story comes as I walk and record onto voice reord app on the mobile. Certainly made today's walk a creative as well as a healthy session!
I feel for those having to deal with male members of the family who won't get up in the morning. OH has this problem all his life but especially since he stopped work. It didn't bother me when I was working 10 hour days and out for 12- 13 hours day.
In retirement it's a diffferent story . I use the mornings for my walking group or whatever activities I've set up for myself - absolutely determined to have a regular, busy and interesting life in retirement. I find the male obsession with sitting in front of a computer screen until sometimes 3:30 AM absolute madness. Most of the time I do my own thing but at weekends or days off from my walking group/ craft classes etc there's little else more annoying than someone who wants to stay in bed until the afternoon!! We can rarely get a day out - it's more like an afternoon...
It's not as though OH is doing anything in the IT line that he couldn't do in the day. He also gets an eye condition which inevitably flares up with lack of sleep/ late nights. If I've gone out on what my late brother would call a ' bright shining morning' and returned feeling invigorated to all the blinds drawn and a darkened room I feel like screaming. He needs the dark when his eyes are bad and I literally cannot stand it for more than a few minutes without becoming really depressed.
On those occasions I simply get my gear on and go straight out for another walk to lift my spirits... or to a friend's house ...
Years ago I worked as a health visitor in a clinic which had its windows put out every night for a week and eventually we were forced to work with boarded up windows and artificial fluoerescent light. It made me feel so ill I literally had to take my paperwork to another clinic and work there until the situation was sorted.
I really have a problem with people who can't seem to make the connection between getting to bed in decent time and getting up for the day!! It's true that adolescents need more sleep than the rest of us but at 63 years old I really feel OH should get himself organised!!!
I was the 'human alarm clock' during our work lives . He is trying but hearing other's struggles with it really struck a chord... Sorry for the rant!!0 -
just a heads up, another gill holcombe book on a great offer hereNonny mouse and Proud!!

Could I publicly confess that I am an idiot please?
Earlier today I went and transferred money to the bills account. My 'first of the month' direct debits are the rent, council tax, utilities and TV license (the others bills are paid later in the month by OH). So, I transferred over the usual amount. Only to have realised about five minutes ago that the council tax isn't due in February or March! I kind of knew it was coming up, but I just put the normal amount on my budget (I know you can ask for 12 monthly instalments but I never have done).
:j
Not that I'm complaining! In fact, it might make all the difference in the world!I am on SSP at the moment but with saving this money, transferring over some cashback and some ebaying money, it's going to be tight but I think I can meet my share of the bills next month without having to go into the overdraft!!! :T
I'm so relieved I had to share. Means I can start trying to get some actual 'savings' together after all and I'm so happy I'm fit to burst :rotfl:0
