Im going to join you if you dont mind. Hubby was made redudant in November but managed to find work within days. He's just sent me a text saying he is expecting to be laid off again pretty soon as he has heard that his the company he is subcontracted to dont have any work lined up after this job is finished.

I had a dream on Saturday that him and his best friend had to go to work in Norway. Strange as it might seem, if he cant get work here he might be forced to look for work abroad.

I don't know how old your son is, but when my oldest brother was going to college my mum had the same thing with him. So one morning she went into his room when he was "asleep" and took his bedclothes - pillow, duvet and blanket. When he stomped into the kitchen moaning all she said was that they would discuss it that evening. The discussion amounted to her telling him if he was old enough to go to college he was old enough to get himself up and she was no longer responsible for waking him - if there were consequences to him being late (which she described in great detail) then they were his responsibility. She finished off with something like "you keep telling me you're an adult now - so prove it". He was the perfect timekeeper for a week then slipped but she stuck to her guns, he got a telling off at college and never missed again. She did feel guilty to start with but that soon passed as it became clear that brother liked being treated like an adult and responded well to it.

He's 20 next month, but very immature! I'm firmly of the opinion he has a couple of toes on the AS too, although it was never formally diagnosed. We go in with coffee and turn the light on...but he leaves it till the last second to get out of bed, and if anything can't be found, needs to be done etc. it all goes pair shaped. He has to catch a bus, which we have to drive him to meet, so the timing is crucial. My rally driving skills have improved no end! I have 'had' that conversation with him, oh at least twice since September... :( Sigh probably time to do it again...

Well its Monday the start of a new week and although its Freezing I have the YB here and I am feeling a lot more positive. On Friday eve I went to see some parents of another girl that goes to my DD11 school and we have agreed to do a car share school run. So first of all I am not going to panic like a banshee in the morning as they are doing the am run to school as its on their way to work. And best of all its going to save approx £10pw in petrol !!! and at the moment because OH is still using work's van that is also saving us another £10 pw can't spec on this though as we don't know how long this will last. But everyday is a saving.
Right of to do a little bit more and the ironing is shouting at me AGAIN!! Hope you have a Happier Monday Peeps

  • KATIEOWL - there are two super online Vegan recipe sites that I use all the time - everyday things- they are PARSLEY SOUP and THE VEGAN FAMILY. I have found lots of the vegan cookery books available here are american in origin and you can't always get the ingredients. A good range of ethnic cookery books from individual regions all over the world is by a lady called LINDA MAJZLIK - it might be worth getting the library to reserve you one before you buy as then you could see if they were to your taste. Cheers Lyn.

Huge virtual hugs to all the peeps with difficluties (((hug)))

:hello: Hi and welcome Judi! How horrid about hubbie. My OH went and worked abroad once - I had to stay behind as I was studying. I hated it. Whereabouts in the West Midlands are you?

Well, last night a friend came round to offer me 20 energy-saving-lightbulbs, (including posh enclosed 'daylight' ones) she had removed from around her house. She said she is going back to old fashioned ones and got 148 75-watters 'off the back of a lorry' to stockpile. She said she hates the cold light off the new ones and also the fact they don't produce any heat. I tried to explain the economics of fuel to her but she's not bothered. Not sure what I think of her green credentials (or her moneysaving ones!) but quite pleased she offered them to me. Honestly, none of my friends chuck anything before offering it me first. :D

I've got to go to our little shopping centre today - transfer money for the monthly bills, pay the car tax and pick up a few little bits from the shop. One of the far-eastern supermarkets there (we have two!) sells huge bags of 'Italian rice for sushi' that are dirt cheap and look like they are just risotto rice. I'm considering trying some to find out. I'm not bothered if it's not exactly right - my palate is so unsophisticated that I already use pudding rice as it's cheaper - but the bag is so big I'd have to buy a lidded bucket or something to store it in. I've found some online for £3 but the delivery is a fiver - but the company that manufactures them is LITERALLY round the corner from me!!!!! So I'm going to have a quick scout round Wilkos but if not try and pluck up the courage to phone the company and see if they can help me out.

Anyway I've rabbited enough I think!

    Hi guys

got some catching up to do as been hectic few days been on mission to sort house out since moving kitchen around.

Firstly its col and sleety snow here oddly not hit wales yet as rang hubby in work
so wrap up warm guys and careful you dont slip.

debating on trying to get to co-op for few bits

we doing the living off storecupboard/freezer challange until payday on 15th
But I really am quite low on some things and due to lots listing bbaby stuff now have little spare cash and small lkist of stuff i need to combine with what I haave to meal plan next 16days!
Actualy quite enjoying being so organised and frugal
did managed to get some reduced bits yesterday and did strange barter reducing in corner shop who tried to sell me 4 6packcs choc breakaway bars for £2 out of date each pack flashmarked at £1 offered him quid for lot so 24chic bars for lunchboxes so happy gang.sadly no reduced crips so ended up buying value.

Popped into sainsburys hardly any reduced, hardly anything off.
but basic brand shot up even in last 2weeks some stuff by 20p+ peppers now 40p was 17p, pizza 70p was 50 few weeks back, value pasta 25p now 40p is shocking the margins they squeezing from the poor people who cant downshift value.

    everyones got cols here.

    planning day of sorting laundry
    sorting out stuff to sell

got quite a bit of interest in clothing and nappy bundles.

so hopefully more money there feeling bit more optimistic but need to raise £150 to pay all the bills and stressing over eldests birthday.

also been a numpty gave toxic freind yet another chance
she was suppost to be coming round for coffee this morning
she dident saw her bloke he said ahh yes she forgot she had doctors appointment surly she could have text mne that or messaged me last night or god forbid phone me.
if hadent bumped into him as was late would have been none the wiser. same happened 3weeks ago.

so fed up of it then getting upset and dissapointed.
Maybe its sensitive cancarian in me but feel used and expected to drop things for her.
saw her breifly last week only because she had to be at school.
she works 3days a week and her blokes unemp0loyed so he does all school runs now even on her days off.

he said she be up school later. im dreading it as dont want a row but think need to be honest and say my peace as feel disrespected its always something with them they thrive on drama.
I dont have many close freinds and let her in and feel so silly for being so trusting..
did think about pulling in a mummy favour and getting someone else to pick eldest up but cant seems silly plus need to catch home hairdressers whos meant to be cutting eldests hair tonight .
Thinking of skipping rainbows as dont want to drag sick baby out in dark and cold so might bribe eldest with fairy cakes!

  • any one to get any vochers for new look shop
  • Re Woodburners - Having blasted on about how good we find ours I got Hubby to take a look at how much less gas we've used since we had it installed. He has worked out that we are consistently only using 55% of the amount we used when we were running the central heating. Before that we were at the mercy of fluctuations in the weather and obviously used the central heating more when it was colder. We still use gas to heat the water and have recently changed over to a gas hob from an electric one but, his figures show that even in last years really cold snowy period we still only used 55%. I think it is because the woodburner seems to warm up the whole house and perhaps we have got used to it being slightly cooler in the bedrooms. Hope this information might help anyone debating whether to install one. Cheers Lyn.

Wish we could have a woodburner keep telling hubby one day we will have it.

    feeling bit better

just had bacon and egg granary rolls-all reduced of course:)

Cant belive how well we eating right now on so little

with all my reduced we still having treats

amount of reduced bread down to last 80rolls have eneough for breckfasts and lunch until payday.

just dinners will become more challanging next week as meal planned lovley meals this week.

But hubby and daughter can be fussy so if it forces them to eat everything in freezer and cupboards then I can do really good shop- after debacle of rises in sainsburys going to try my luck with morrisions, farmfoods and lidls febuary.

Think the butcher may have missed me.

Now its cold thinking dont do enough soups.
planning a soup and pudding night
party night with buffet food and crisps

will look out for reduced but all I seem to find is sausage!

    on lookout for cheap crumpets

so not good for diet but decided weighing in thur this week.

Good luck kidcat with assessment today.

    katie owl made me chuckle.

speaking of bulbs hubby must have got 80 bulkbs end of line through work discontinuyed range for couple of quid probably got years worth as we mostly use energy savers blooming ugly but so are landlords dated lighting fixtures.

Its one of those things that are hidden virtual savings.
Keep banging on about it to hubby but if ehw orked out how many bulbs and what they cost fullprice think we saved least 50quid.

keep saying we should put whatever saved when buying stuff on offer or reduced into a jar and he would be surprised how much it added up to.
In afct might try this from feb onwards or least keep paper total as most receipts say how much saved.

    well best get on have

    soup to make
    pasta dish for kids
    mini quiches
    sheperds pie
    sausage casserole

that will take us up to least thursday!

  • smileyt just read your post and my dh went through similar at the job centre. He was told he was not entitled to JSA either. He came home and checked through all his paperwork and took out his P60's and went back in next day and the girl photocopied them, and she told him there had been a mistake made:) Of course they had. He was then told he was entitled and they put it into his account in a few days from then. He was puzzled as to how he had not paid enough N.I contributions. Thank goodness we keep stuff.
Do a little kindness every day.;)
