We didn't have time to sit and count birdies yesterday, but saw quite a few when glancing out the patio windows - so we thought we'd do it today.
Sings softly: "What a difference a day makes".......yesterday was sunny and cold, today is damp, dreary and bl00dy freezing - and not a dicky bird in sight! We'll leave it 'til around 1.00pm and hope to see a flutter of wings then. Topped up all the feeders, de-iced the bird bath and shooed next door's cat away. Then we'll put some mealworms down and sit with the binoculars trained on the garden - and fingers crossed.
I also love the long tailed tits, they come "en masse" (but not today..grrr) and hop around the magnolia tree. Lovely.
Been good here for birds today god its so bloody cold theyve got to keep eating to try store a little bit of fat, Ive always got plenty food out for them such as; mixed seed, sunflower hearts, peanuts, fat cakes, nyger seed, and porridge oats..........Had loads of birds for the count......The food seem to be so expensive no matter what kind you buy..........
Got a cold week ahead for us all,so sorry to hear of all the problems a lot of posters are having right now, the weather dont help when your feeling low, things always look brighter when the sun shine dont they?, Hope you have had a peaceful weekend, soon be Monday morning.:eek:0 -
Had a lovely day in the Peaks. Unfortunately the murk didn't lift but it wasn't too cold and felt so good to be out in the hills, I love it and don't do it enough. Had 3v3's words in my head. Had a lovely pub lunch with more roast beef than I should have eaten
and nicked enough of the kids puds to satisfy!
Not happy about this cold snap we've entered - I wasn't too bad black dog wise until it turned cold (Dad's illness notwithstanding!). However, I did wake up this morning and it was light - superb.
Actually sold some stuff on ebay today, so a little more to add to the holiday coffers and some more stuff decluttered. Decluttering has taken a back seat over the last week so I must get on it in the morning to achieve my ditch 100 in January target.
Am looking forward to some lemon meringue pie that DD made yesterday - it is the nicest i have ever had, so light it's untrue. I really must teach her to make savoury things - tho she did make superb pizza for last nights tea.
Looking forward to the midwife show and birdsong tonight - tho I might have to do some ironing.
Have a lovely evening all - and hugs to everyone whether you need them or not!I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Just popped on quickly to say - have just had a bonding moment with my supported lodger :rotfl: He wanted chocolate brownies so we have made a vegan sticky chocolate pudding. It's in the oven as we speak, so fingers crossed it turns out OK. He's never made a cake before  so he's really excited, bless him! It's quite funny because he's a very mature 21, 6ft 3' and weighs about 18 stone :rotfl::rotfl:and I have a big grin on my face just thinking about his excitement :rotfl:. He took a photo of it before it went into the oven. If this turns out I will progress him onto scones, biscuits and sponge cakes.
Although I have that wheat thing going on, I sadly prophesy that I will be unable to resist a splodge of the sticky chocolate pudding .....Aspire not to have more but to be more.

OK You may be the person to point me in the right direction. I need to get a vegan cookbook? Can you suggest a relatively modern one?
Enjoy the brownies...DD has just this second come in to ask me if she can steal chocolate from my stash to make dairy free brownies - so I get some too!

Katieowl you might be best going to the vegan society website as they have leaflets about plant-based nutrition, recipes and they also have vegan recipe books in their online shop (maybe your library has some if you want to look before buying). My vegan recipe books are a mish-mash but the vegan soc website gives tips on things like egg-free baking.

I had a lot of posts to catch up on so I apologise but I can't find who it was said they hate taking their calcium/Vit D tablets because of the taste. If it's Adcal D3, it comes in two flavours - lemon and fruit flavoured. The fruit flavoured is unbelievably disgusting IMHO but the lemon is tolerable. A lot of pharmacies will just give you what they have got in stock and for some incomprehensible reason they seem to prefer the fruit flavour, but try asking for the other flavour and see if that helpsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thinking of you winchelsea and 3V3. x
Hope you are feeling better softstuff and Frugalista. x
Been a busy weekend gardening. It looks worse atm but we are slowly getting there. There's such a lot of storm damage to clear.
Sunday night chores of laundry on the pulley, uniforms ironed, lunches made and meal plan done so I'm off to veg in front of the telly.0 -

Just thought I'd mention, my pharmacist told me last week that I mustnt take calcium supplements as it could interfere with my thyroxine tablet absorption. (I've been taking them for 8 years now and no one had told me that!) so maybe worth asking if you're taking any other medication.0 -
Hi folks
Have not posted on here since new year but wanted to share my bargin of the day with you. I have needed new work shoes since November but finances have not allowed. I spend long hours on my feet and have always found Clarks to be the most comfortable and hardwearing workshoes for me. The down side of this is the price at £35 to £45 a pair. I have now got the money for a new pair and whilst trying a pair of shoes on in the shop I spied a suitable pair in the kids section that fitted me perfectly. They had been reduced twice and now had a final price sticker on of £10 :j needless to say I snapped them up.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.
