Two lecturers recently have suggested I look at doing a PhD but I'm scared! I will look into it, though - I'd love to be DrSmileyt :rotfl::rotfl:But the first step is to do some reading and clarify my thoughts. Or even have some thoughts, for that matter :rotfl::rotfl:

Go for it, go for it! The novelty of being able to answer the question "Is that Mrs or Miss?" with "Dr" doesn't wear off!

Dont often come here but needed to get off my chest that my lodger is moving out after 5 years and I will miss the income too much. Great lodger and great money which covered my food and petrol. Overdrawn this month by less than last month as have been trying really hard but from now its gonna be a challenge. Made a start by turning off the radiator in the living room which I don't use very much as I live in the snug next to the kitchen most of the time. Panicked a bit. Am 62 and retired but will try and get some part time work now as getting another lodger might be risky since the last one became a friend as well and I'm scared in case another one isn't as nice. Kids all moved out too so it feels like I'm totally on my jack jones now. Another panic moment. Isn't life full of challenges!!!???

Hi Catbells, yes, these panic moments come along and it is hard, but hopefully it may mean a new start also. I keep having new starts and I have decided to try and roll with them.; not easy I know. But keep posting and maybe we can all come up with some ideas and also give you lots of support. :)

Well done! I smoked for over 20 years and managed to give up - if I can, so can you - will be rooting for you. If you need extra support there is a stop smoking thread on the debt free board - in debt free diaries I think.

I am at that stage of a PhD too. I need to first decide if the ONLY reason I'm doing it is to be Dr VJsmum and to wear the funny hat on graduation day. I am supposed to be putting a proposal together.

Well done you. Just don't smoke today - don't promise anything for tomorrow. You can not smoke today, can't you?;) That's how I stopped - that was 25 years ago, haven't touched one since.

    Hi everyone!
Hope your dad is feeling much better soon VJsmum.
Hugs for anyone that wants or needs one.
Had a bit of an off day myself today. I have absolutely zero confidence and try really hard to conquer this, but some days it just gets the better of me.
Anyway, tomorrow is another day, so another start.
At least I managed to have a grocery NSD and make a loaf.
So I'm off to bed now.....

PS Even the rabbit is in a temper and has thrown his bowls across the room.
Are you sure it was black/blue Monday last week?

    Night all.

  • I'm often so envious of you peeps who manage to find out when's a good time for yellow-sticker hunting. I never seem to be there at the right time. That all changed this morning in @sda: half-price butter at 60 pence. It's about now that I wish I had a working freezer as I could have snatched the lot. Had to satisfy myself with only four. Baking ahoy!

Talking of baking I saw a break-maker in the British Heard Foundation shop late on Saturday afternoon. I wavered and didn't buy it because I really can't afford it and then spent all day yesterday fretting that someone else had spotted it. I went back this morning and it was still there. IT IS MINE, ALL MINE! FOR FIFTEEN QUID. I don't need to make that many loaves for it to have paid for itself. Got a loaf on the go now, so wish me luck....

Hi, I haven't seen anything this year about black monday but am sure it would have been today as it has always been this week. I remember it because it was a birthday and the following year the day after or before and since then always the same week. Still, it's all in the mind. I look for the positive things like the evenings are staying lighter that little bit later, the snow drops are beginning to come out. Daffodil foliage is pushing through. Spring is on its way.
