Elizabunny - tell him to say sorry, he can't as you've booked and paid for your holiday. If he's done the same its his own fault for booking before it was approved.
I have told DH this to do this, but because the other person is now saying he can't have his holiday now, DH feels bad. The thing is, the policy is well known, one from each section only on a first come first served basis. DH had his holiday approved over 3 weeks ago, so it's not as if they were both trying to get their hols approved on the same day. I don't know.....Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

I know. The other guy has found a great bargain holiday price and wants it ! I'd smile and be nice and say I'm sorry but we booked and paid0

I agree with the other posters re the holiday - first come first served you say and hubby got there first. The other person is just trying to take advantage of your OH's good nature - which is not very nice. As for the other person saying he "can't have his holiday now" - that's rubbish - what happened to the other 51 weeks of the year? Of course, OH could suggest he will change if the other person refunds his deposit - watch him disappear then!"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

Hello All, back again for my weekly visit! I've still been getting my daily "fix" and reading all the posts but as usual, not had time to post.
VJsmum, so glad to hear your dad is on the mend. I remember how hard it is when you are at a distance.
Gailey, once again just reading your posts exhausts me. Don't feel you have to justify your drink and toast at Mr S's to anyone hun, you absolutely deserve to have a sit down and a treat once in a while.
Elizabunny, I agree with all the others, what if the shoe were on the other foot? I bet the colleague wouldn't be willing to give up his holiday in favour of your OH! I hope he manages to stick to his guns.
Mardy wotsit, am soooooooooooooo jealous of your snow. The weather warnings at first said we might get some here, on the edge of the West Midlands, but I gather it's more to the East of us now so no chance for us, shame.
Big hugs and squeezes to any who are feeling down. As a long time sufferer of depression I have plenty of experience of that awful emptiness that drags you down with no visible reason or explanation. Just try and keep going as best you can and remember "this too shall pass". As someone else said, spring is on the way and is slowly starting to spread her warm little tentacles to wrap about your heart.
All is continuing well with our frugal January. Still no sign of the bottom of the freezers, in fact I swear the stuff in there breeds in the dark! Although, to be fair, there are only so many plum/apple/rhubarb crumbles one can eat - I really must try and give some more of the garden's fruit glut away this year!
Our big car, which we need to tow our caravan, has to have its MOT at the beginning of next month, AND the tax is due on it, AND the house insurance (buildings and contents) is due AND the wood shed is nearly empty so we will have to buy another load, oh and the DH said this morning that there seems to be a fault developing on the small car...............oh well, another frugal month ahead then!
Still, I know there are many people far, far worse off then us, we have the luxury of two cars, a warm house, food in our bellies. I must remember to count these blessings more frequently.
Hope everyone has a good week.0 -
Havnt posted for ages. I had a huge wage cut in October (Local Gov job) but my Sunday librarian job had overtime due to people leaving etc so I was making the money up by doing extra hours when I could. Now my library job is under threat
.
A colleague in work was moaning about their pay cut and I suggested some of the things I do to save money like go to Pundland for the soup she likes as its 2 for £1 there. She went off and came back amazed.
Do folk know about the £5 off in Aldi if you buy the Miroir (sp) on Thurs? I was telling another collegue who said the dont shop in Lidl/Aldi as its rank!I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
starsandmoon thanks for the reminder, will definitely be buying at least one paper possibly depending on use by date of voucher.0

I think its about a week to use the voucher, you also get 30% off vouchers for certain products. I had a similar offer before Xmas and got my £5 off plus half price lemonade, crackers etc with the vouchers.
Im torn as I have a £5 off £30 for Lidl too for the same week but only in a specific Lidl due to one being closed for a refurb.
Couldnt believe the colleague who scorned Lidl saying it sold rubbish food and they only go to Tesco then today they are saying they are skint so they have got rid of their expensive car and leased a new one that is smaller but they had to pay £1,300 to get out of the other deal first! Madness.:eek:I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Greetings Toughies, am I too late to join in the party?
I've read this thread from the beginning & ironically about every 10 pages a topic crops up which weirdly reflects something I was already thinking about (the last one I recall was eggy bread, I went on about it to OH till he made me some, then read you all chatting about wanting it on here!).I kept meaning to join in but then kept feeling shy, stupid I know!
I've just been inspired by paidinchickens post to write as I am about to quit smoking. I stupidly stopped a couple of weeks ago & found it OK, then the demon wine got me while I was out & I fell disgracefully off the wagon. Me, weakwilled...? :rotfl:I have half a pack left, and when that's gone, I refuse to waste a single penny more on it, vile! I promise to post here as motivation if no one minds?
I keep reflecting back to how much has changed since I joined the forums, debt riddled & unhappy. I'm very pleased to report that's no longer the case, thanks in no small part to MSE.
Lately I have become addicted to OS hence I read it every day.
About me: I live with my OH and we are both early 30s. Luckily he is an absolute gem of a man, I couldn't wish for better & consider myself very lucky. Since I started getting very in to OS he has supported everything. He is now the household's official baker and turns out a mean loaf! We both work full time. I'm lucky enough to work from home sometimes which allows me to indulge my OS ways and *cough* spend quite a bit of time reading up on here - all in the name of research of course
Last night was my first bolognese with added lentils, oats AND grated carrots! It was a roaring success and we're making a chilli tonight with the rest, which usually would have only made one meal, not two (healthy appetites). We both love cooking and food, OH is a fab cook but during the week I do most of it due to aforesaid homeworking giving me more time.
Thanks to OS we are about to finish a revamping of a lovely Art Deco style sideboard (I read a lot of the shabby chic thread!) which we bought for peanuts, which will give back much needed cupboard space in the kitchen for all the jam jars & tubs I am beginning to hoard! Plans for spring, when it finally comes, will be to get a shed built & start our veg patch in the garden. I'm stupidly excited about it.
Our main drive at the moment is to cut down our grocery bill. I am ashamed to admit that when we first met, our shared love of food saw us spending hundreds on top of going out. I've had a drastic lifestyle change (another long story I'll save for when someone posts saying they are struggling to sleep!), and have recently discovered Aldi which I think is brilliant and we have already halved our outgoings for this month on foodOH is trying to clear his debt now & I want to help as much as I can. Bless him, but he is generous to a fault & doesn't, I think, want to be seen to not be contributing equally, so I am doing my best to be frugal in the extreme to help him get it sorted.
Anyway, I know I can ramble for hours, so sorryBut I look forward to joining in, offering support & advice if I have any to give & to keep on learning from all you lovely folk who have genuinely really inspired me on the path I have taken.
Proud to be a moneysaver0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies, for you have all cheered me up! Have to wait for DH to come home later to find out more detail. I don't think DH will cave in but I know it will make him feel uncomfortable. I know there are sometimes special reasons why people cannot take their holidays at certain times, especially if you have children in schools and we have in the past, been in that position ourselves, that is why DH tries to avoid the summer hols. I suppose because there are now just two of us and we holiday in this country and not abroad, people assume it's easier for us to change our hols, but it's not when it's booked and paid for and of course we also have our favourite times of year. We love the Autumn so much and tend to always try and get a break then. Hopefully it will resolve itself....just don't like upsetting someone.
On a brighter note, I took myself off into the kitchen and made today's loaf and also two batches of flapjacks. I have an oat thing going on at the moment so they are going into everything including the bread!
I loved the scrimper programme last night (sorry can't remember exact title) I would never have thought of freezing lime portions for drinks, I can't count the times I've chopped a bit off a lemon or Lime and then found the remains a month later shrivelled in the corner of the fridge:o
Welcome GFN123. I hope you enjoy this thread as much as I do. I have to admit the OS Threads were the reason I joined MSE and they keep me going.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin
