modern_millie wrote: »Hi everyone, hope you're all having a good day. Think it might be 'Black Monday' today (supposed to be most depressing day of the year) but I am feeling surprisingly upbeat!
That's cos Black /Blue Monday was last week!;)
I finally managed to do an inventory of the freezers today - chucked a very few things away (literally a bit of cabbage, some ice cubes and some old icing that I froze as an experiment). We still have about 2 weeks worth of actual meals in there - tho not so much the kids will eat and out of 2 freezers there is only one ready meal (whoopsied) <<proud>> (and i ate a bit of the ben and jerrys - just to help out you understand)
Now the concern with dad his him going back to the house alone when they let him out of hospital. Hopefully he is now on social services radar and something will be sorted, but he is such a stubborn, cantankerous old bu88er he may not agree to anything. But now the immediate medical problem is being dealt with I am not going to fret too much about that - he was managing before.
I have my occasions a*se about face as we had the chinese yesterday and the roast today - very nice they both were too. I narrowly escaped being a dragon by about 4 weeks! I am a lovely fluffy bunny instead! We had whoopsied chicken breasts in white wine and roasties and all the trimmings. Made the most of the oven being on by baking softstuffs mincemeat drops as i still have mincemeat left from christmas. Where is softstuff - haven't seen her lately?
Thanks for all the kind wishes - it meant a lot.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi, Its been awhile since I have been here.
I have been sick with the cough I have had for a few years, and I have been comfined to bed over a week now with a chest infection.
I need this infection to clear up as I have an appointment with a lung specialist on the 23th Feb, I have waited two years to see him and he will not see me if I still have it so I am being very good and resting.
But it is driving me crazy so many things that needs doing, thats not being done.
OH is cooking all meals and cleaning the place hes been great. Even better hes using whats in the cupboard, fridge and freezer. Hes only bought milk and oranges in the last week.
Hope everyone is keeping well
Off to try a catch up with everyones news
You lot cant half talk:)Taking it one day at a time0 -
I think I'm a snake.
sssssssssssssssssssss
Is anyone going to watch Superscrimpers tonight?
Kimsmum, it's good to see you again. I'm sorry you've been so poorly. The only way to have a speedier recovery is rest. I hope you will be well enough to see the specialist. xxx0 -
I cant believe that anybody on the planet is thick enough to pay £395 for a bloody handbag! :rotfl::rotfl:0

I am so jealous of people who live far enough north to see the aurora. I've always wanted to see it!
I went mooching round the charity shops earlier while I was waiting for my prescriptions. I was very restrained and didn't buy anything, though there were bargains to be had! A green tartan wool duffel coat from Next for £7.95, my size but didn't suit me at all, and plenty of designer handbags to be had for £4 - 5... but do I need another handbag? No, I do not. I have a huge collection already (all from charity shops of course). And a couple of gorgeous Folio Society books, bargains but still more than I can afford right now. So I am feeling very virtuous at having resisted temptation :A
VJsmum, glad your dad is okay. My colleague's dad had problems before Christmas and was very stubborn. Now he is in a sheltered scheme he actually quite likes it. But who out of any of us wants to admit that they can't cope? Social services will be used to dealing with stubbornness.0 -
Thanks Millie - both those villages are on our list but we have to get a council ''permission' to trade on any road in Pembs - we have to tell them when and where we want to be every trading day, and comply with a lot of regs - some places they wont let us trade due to there already being somewhere selling hot food, or they don't think there is a safe place to park. So we have got to pick carefully... our 'permission' costs £1300 pa. We could trade on private land if we could find it. And yes, lots of holiday cottages, we used to stay in Trevine when we first visited Pembs, it's a lovely remote
village.
I may have asked this before but would the Parish Councils give you permission to use land they own?
Or be a good way in to find private land you could use?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

The mixture fits perfectly, I cook it for the same amount of time as the recipe and then add the same amount of frosting as for 12 cup cakes. The difference is that I get at least 20 good size slices out of one batch (I've finally run out of packets so have just been using my own ingredients).
Thanks for the tip 7WW, I have just the one pack and want to make them last.0 -
Hi Ras - yes, we are going to go to the villages and find any Parish land to see if we can use it, also put posters in village shops asking anyone with a convenient patch of land/frontage if we could barter a good chippy tea for use of their patch!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

VJsmum - re Blue/Black Monday - well, that explains it. I'm usually lagging behind! Glad to hear your Dad is on the mend.
Mrs C - we first stayed in Trevine too - moved to Pembs nearly 20 years ago now. We've probably stayed in some of the same cottages!0 -

Nope me neither.... I liked this one cos it was huge, and had a pale coloured lining, which means I can find stuff in it. And it's red, which was on the wish list.....I just about died when I saw the original price. They were selling fake leather in M&S for more than £26.
I was saying I didn't 'GET' the handbag thing to my friend and her DD recently and her DD works in a concession in one of the big Debenhams in a shopping centre, and she was telling us of the tale of the first day of the sales, and the handbag madness that she could see from her stand. One women grabbed all the bags she liked the look of and made her OH lie on top of them and pass them out to her one by one so she could decide what she wanted....and other women threaded them up both arms and clasped their hands OVER their heads so no-one could snatch them off, while they were looking. She said some of the bags were reduced to £800  I said you could buy a car or a holiday for that!!!!
