What's the betting that the euro goes before xmas then? Am sure the worlds banks esp American and Japan, have enough probs of their own at home without having to bail out Europe. Interesting times innit !
  • Hairdressers prices are horrendous. Its taken me two years but now finally my hair is long enough to plait and pin up. It was fairly grim while it was growing and I looked like Medusa most days but worth it now.

It will go, the question is when. Not to mention the impact that will have on all of us. I think there are some uncertain times ahead. Yet again things are being propped up but eventually it will all have to follow the normal course of events.
  • My uruly mop needs two boxes now, and I buy colour from 99p shop and then just smother it with conditioner ( MR S basic that in the summer was on sale for 10p a bottle so I bought about 20 ). I find this basics one actually is far better for my hair than dearer ones, put it on leave it for a few mins and comb slips through my nearly waist long hair - my hair has always stuck to itself ( rats tails as mum used to call it and oh boy I remember the pain when she used to comb it through every night). Every few months I give hair a hot oil treatment with the oil I use for cooking which is Olive Oil and it works just as good as expensive hot oil treatments. Usually the ones from 99p although good don't come with conditioner, although on saying that lasts ones they had in did. I have noticed if you look very carefully that MR S usually has one of their basic shampoos, shower gel, bath foam, conditioner on sale for 10p every few weeks - never more than one. Also same with their basic stock cubes, so when they are 10p I buy about 10 boxes of that one, then wait till next one on sale and buy that so works out far cheaper than making stock - they do chicken, vegetable and meat in basic range, normal price is I think now 82p. Also found stuffing one week for 10p so bought a few of them. It just takes time scanning every shelf to see the 10p items. They did for a while do their basic curry sauce for 9p but not had that for a while and their sweet and sour sauce was only 29p so bought a dozen and am glad I did as its gone up to 45p now.

Right social have phoned back so can go out shopping - got my ESA form and letter with it said it had to be back by 13th Dec and then yesterday a letter came saying it had to be back by 7th, called them and was told nothing on my file saying I had even been sent the form never mind when it was to be back and was told its a totally separate department that deals with transfer cases ( am on Incapacity Benefit at moment) and they are supposed to update the files of people they send forms to. So was told that email would be sent to them to call me, and lo an behold they did and said form to be back by 13th but will make sure its back by 7th anyway - its with a benefits advisor from a charity who came took all my details and they will it in and my handwriting now so bad that three times this year bank has refused to let me take money out as my signature keeps changing, been told taking my passport will allow me to get money over counter, its just as shame they don't bother to tell the counter staff, as after first time it happened and teller shouted it all over the bank that she could not give me money as signature I had put was not what they had on file and nothing like it, I called and spoke to manager and was told about passport, but when I did this next twice, both times they refused to let me have any money, although tellers did not talk so loud. I came out after first time feeling like a criminal trying to steal my own money. So its cash machine only unless hubby can go to bank as most weeks there will be an odd few pounds left and we need them.

Can anyone tell me if you put items on ebay and they do not sell do you still have to pay sellers fees, never sold on there before but I have got to get some extra money somehow but cannot afford to pay ebay for the privilege of having my item for sale and it not selling? Will also look into selling books on Amazon.

I am so frustrated with myself because I just don't understand it. I wish I did. I want to learn but the news is driving me mad. Sticking head in the sand and going to put my christmas tree up.

My sister-in-law and her cousin are scrapping on facebook about who has it worse, those working in public sector or private - they just don't get it. They're both whining about finding extra money to put into their pension funds and talking about opting out as they can't afford it - one lot have a brand new car on a finance deal. Sometimes priorities are so mixed up. They have not got a cue what is to come and they aren't listening to me because they think because I have lost my home I know nothing. It's BECAUSE I lost my home that they should listen. So frustrating.

Some good tips and recipes on here today - thanks - especially re the magnesium/iron. I find wearing bedsocks helps me sleep - don't have very cold feet but it does seem to have an effect.

I'm NOT playing food poker if Softstuff is going to join in but am feeling smug cos I have more red kidney beans than GQ :D. My weekly shop has come to £10-58 today, mostly for fresh stuff and now I have to find carrot recipes (I know I can freeze or dehydrate them but prefer them fresh).

I've managed to find a house insurance quote that's more or less the same as last year's but will carry on trying to get it lower and will see if I can get cashback as well. And I've cancelled a couple of small direct debits to save a bit more too. Never stops does it?

This is what gets me, Fuddle. On the other forums in here they go on and on about buying houses and owning your own home - and talk about council tenants as if they are a lower form of life. Ok so I live in a nice council house in a tiny village with a big garden and have nice big rooms etc, so I am lucky, and I know it. But we have paid rent for most of the last 45 years so we aren't being subsidised by anybody.
By promoting this view that you have to buy a house or else, they have got us to the state where we have thousands and thousands of poor families who had their dream- then worried themselves sick trying to hang onto it - then lost it. So what was all that for ? Council housing or renting is for people who havent got the income or the job security to buy. And that, nowadays, probly includes 95% of the nation! There is nothing bad about renting and its snobbish and dangerous to believe that there is. It's good to have the choice and we all choose what suits our own circumstances eh.

We stupidly jumped into buying because we were young and thought 'owning' your own home was more 'secure'. I did in the beginning. I felt very secure but when life hands you out those rotten lemons and you begin to follow paths that life dictates you need to follow i.e. children suddenly you have no disposable income because life costs - not just playing at life in your early 20's. We thought buying is what we must do to show society/family/friends that we're successful and making it. My in-laws are all still 'playing at life' or trying to and they're nearing their 30's with small children. I just know it's going to go 'bang' because that is what happens when you spend more than you have coming in.

They think they're invincible because their mortgage rates are still low but what they have done is spent more and now their cars, credit cards, childcare costs have swallowed up that money they were using to pay the mortgage when it cost more. What the heck are they going to do when the mortgage's go up? I try not to worry as have enough to worry about my own finances but their houses are not secure. Miss a payment and the ball escalates very, very quickly.

I would like to own my own home again one day but not until we have been in the position to save up quite a substantial deposit and the children are older and I graduate. A very long term plan, when/if we're ready, when/if we're in the position. Never again will we do something as huge as gaining a mortgage just because society sees that it is what you should do.

My own Mum is a house owner snob. She doesn't tell anyone we rent - tells them we couldn't cope with a small newbuild and decided to buy a larger, older, period house. It's a joke!
