Boy, didn't see this coming!!!0 -
I stopped going when my hairdresser wanted over £14 for a dry cut and I had short hair then. She still manages to go horse riding, clubbing and runs a flash car.
If you have trouble sleeping make sure your iron levels are good and you are getting enough magnesium. A shortage of either can affect your sleep as well as other things.0 -
Another one who's going to the hairdresser today. I cut DH's and DD's hair but not brave enough to cut my own. My current hairdresser hasn't put her prices up in 4 years, she works really hard and does a good job at a reasonable price. I did used to go to the college, with mixed results (!) but now I try to use any money I have for birthdays or Christmas. I will know times are at their toughest when I try to cut my own!
Hello fellow insomniacs - I've been up at 4am the last few days, don't put the pooter on as it makes me even more awake. End up going to bed at 9pm. It's a pain, isn't it?0 -
Another good trip for a nice thick mushroon soup is to add a handful of rice (basmati is lovely) instead of the bread weezlz soup uses - give a thick creamy texture without the cream and calories
. Will deff try with th e bread next time 'shrooms are cheap
People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Oh gawd. What does this mean for us then?
Quite an interesting read http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15197860 Is £40000 really a livable income for families in the UK. We live off just over half that with DH working 40 hours a week. It depends on what your priorities are I guess. Ours are food, warm house, warm water and warm clothes with waterproofs for outdoors... also affording petrol to get DH to work.
We don't have any debt anymore which is why we can keep our heads above water but I'll tell you, life is a worry but like the lady on the VT said at the end. A good day is when you don't need to spend anything.
If we had £40K to live off we could have a much, much better life because we're savvy and frugal now but it wouldn't be a better life for big houses or new cars, it would be a better life because we could save and feel more secure and save to do the things in life we really want to try out. Posessions mean nothing to me now but the feeling of security and to have something to look forward to feel so far aware away right now. Are those things a basic human need for survival? No wonder I feel like I'm treading water daily without those feelings.0 -
Can I please reiterate that this thread has been away for probably close to a month. A lot of us who use the thread are struggling and need the thread to get by day to day.
Can I just remind us all that MSE Andrea would like for us to report posts that become argumentative and 'ignore' those who may argue. Hopefully we can keep our thread for a little longer this time by not getting involved.0 -
Hey GQ, time for some food poker.
"Seed beans" were on special here (canellini, kidney, chickpeas, lentils). Fancy a bet against the hand I'm holding here? (my tell might be a shifty look towards the wardrobe....)
You know you're good at frugal food shopping when the checkout lady comments on how amazed she is at the number of bags of groceries you have compared to the price you're paying! She commented that most people spend double what we spend for a couple each week.... I didn't dare tell her that most of it will last the month.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I could probably play "shampoo poker". I have bliddy tons of the stuff - I buy it from Home Bargains for £1 for a large bottle of palmolive and refuse to buy anything dearer now as DD goes through handfuls of it at a go.
Ditto conditioner - in fact just off to town now so may pop in to HB  I also want to see if they have bottles of hair dye as i have been getting the hairdresser to do it but i don't think it's any better and in fact the roots come through quicker. My thick curly hair needs 2 packs so it's even more expensive
On the subject of biobulbs, i see Amazon sell them cheaper than the Ethical superstore but are awaiting delivery, so i may buy some more from there next week.
Off to juggle the washing.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Well another one who didnt sleep last night - DS7 has an upper respiratory infection and is off school as is DD5 - same thing, but DS was coughing so much I had to bring him down to the living room and sit up with him, then he started complaining of earache. Was quite productive as I spent the time comparing prices for Christmas presents, managed to order everything I needed for eldest two and do an approved food order.0

Sorry Kimsmum for not replying, suddenly tiredness hit me and I went to sleep till just gone 8am when gardener came to cut the grass - unbelievable still having to pay to have it cut in December, but its still growing. Noticed this morning the new bulbs I put in at beginning of October for next spring have started to shoot up. Used to have a nice mix out there in spring but slowly all bar the daffodils had stopped growing so planted 90 bulbs, about 6 each of different flowers, so wondering now if they will be out for Christmas
