I actually had a bit of energy this morning, so I cleared out the fridge and used up various odds and ends - some oldish yogurt, half a carton of about to go out of date cream cheese and odds and ends of grated cheddar have been turned into cheese scones and a carton of UHT milk (BBE sept 2011) is now a nice plate of pancakes....very satisfying. Am tired now though.
I am copying Fuddle and not looking too deeply into what is/might/could/will be going to happen with the Euro. I have enough here to worry me for 2 lifetimes at the moment without adding something I can do nothing about. I have reasonable stocks (DH would take issue on my idea of reasonable I'm surebecause he laughs at the rows of tins behind the books on the bedroom bookshelves whenever he goes looking for a book) and I try and keep some cash handy. Don't really know what else I can do TBH.
As to renting versus buying a home, I agree that a home is what you make it, whether it is rented or bought. A house is just a building, and I know several people who have looked upon their house as a way to make money. They were never homes and quite a few of them have come unstuck. We live in a semi that we bought in the early 90's and have often been looked down on by "friends" who have extolled the so called virtues of moving onwards and upwards to detached and more expensive areas. No thanks, we love our home, we can afford to live in it and to us that is what matters.People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

From what I understand the collapse of the euro will/can/might etc effect
the government's plans to reduce our debt by a mixture of austerity measures and relying on economic growth will falter.
Britain will not be able to grow economically
back into a deep recession
credit crunch
growth stalls but high inflation stays - hiking interest rates to control inflation
austerity that angers people - civil unrest
houseprice crash as overpriced due to low interest rates
benefits system being effected
the euro will be no more, each country back to looking after itself.
tough times for everyone financially that could take a very long time to recover from.
That is opinions from on the net. I have no idea if they're right etc but at least I have a fair idea about what might happen and how it might effect me. Anyone looking in on this post who has any knowledge of the financial crisis I apologise for my ignorance. You may howl at this thick apron wearing housewife.
On that note - christmas tree!
That is more or less how I see it. Austerity with a capital A.0 -
Just had 10 minutes catching up on threads as not been about for a few days..
Got our Gas & Elec Bills thorough this week..both with BG..Shocked by how much prices have risen and starting to panic now for winter..considering my house was empty for 3 weeks out of this quarter the bills were still higher than this time last year..eeeek..
Struggling to look forward to christmas and the new year now..been told my mum has developed pnuemonia and in consultants opinion she has around 2 weeks left.(apparently this is a common way for people who are in a vegetetive state to pass away)..Been grieving since beginning of October as thats when i lost my mum really when she collapsed..the thought of organising funeral etc so close to christmas makes me feel quite ill and the fact she is over 200 miles away..then we have to conjour money that we havent got to pay for it all afterwards..
Been to the farmers market today planning to batch cook plenty to stick in the freezer..veggies are normally cheap as chips, cauliflowers normally 40p but up to 70p this week..Got lots of meat for the freezer and aim to bulk that out..also bought 4 packs of Bacon Chops for £2..never cooked or seen these before so any ideas how i can cook these or make a meal from them would be appreciated?they are about an inch thick.
Plumber has been to repair the boiler but the part is on back order..would say sods law but just about sums our luck up at the moment.
Sold some things on ebay this week to try and make a few pounds for xmas pressies..didnt do too well on stuff that would normally thrive so was a bit gutted..and then grossly underestimated cost of sending to Southern Ireland..didnt realise it was classed as airmail..DOH! that'll teach me..:o

What ever does happen is out of our hands, thier playing field is too big, but, what we do have here on this thread is the attitude, the knowledge and the support of all the contributors to help not just ourselves but anyone else who needs it. Its the biggest self help club I've ever been lucky enough to find. We'll manage, whatever happens. Cheers Lyn0

oh dear - that is really awful for you. I know exactly how you feel as my mum died on December 6th 2 years ago, we had her funeral on 21st December. I was 200 miles away from my mum too. It was snowy and icy and just so awful (although the Dickensian nature of her funeral in all the snow would have appealed to her
). It was a difficult christmas - but i had to carry on for the sake of the kids. In fact i still have to carry on for the sake of the kids as, even now, i could easily throw myself to the floor and howl. How did I / do I do it? I can hear her in my ear (figuratively speaking) telling me to get on with it - and i know that it is what she expects of me. So hard for you at this point though, especially having been in limbo for a couple of months. Try to get down to see her if you can, and be kind to yourself. My thoughts are with you.
I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
