I really feel for you charliemaine1bee and VJsmum. I lost my nan and my dad just before xmas (and only a couple of years apart too) and it is difficult. It certainly puts a downer on a time that should be happy. (((hugs))) to you both.0 -

I seem to be getting an overwhelming urge to go in the garden and start digging (for victory) to grow more stuff of my own. In the dark. In the winter.
Might go and count my tins.0 -
I have a 10 euro note left from a jaunt to Paris a couple of years ago. I think I'll hang onto it in the hope that it might acquire some kind of novelty value0

The main thing that would concern us ( at least at first) if Euro goes down is prices will jump as we import so much even from Europe, so if there is anything you like that comes from abroad and can be stored and you can afford to - stock up on it now, as if euro vanishes it will take the countries a bit to sort themselves, mind you on saying that they will all behind closed doors have sorted out getting a currency up and running very quickly, but still there is likely be a delay while they get their plans into action ( but I wouldn't be surprised if their Mints have all printed and pressed the new currency they will use) so even though those countries will want to export even more its if the can afford the raw materials, but once they have them most likely we will end up with more of their goods - at an exhortation price - than people in their own country. Not worth worrying about anything else, as no one can really predict that, but higher prices are almost a certainty but only if it goes. Prices are rising all the time so really it won't seem much different. Might find a black market appears for the rarer foods, just like during WWII.
We in a way are in a very similar position to everyone in UK in August 1939 and people survived what came and look how healthy those at home were. So see there is a golden lining even of what seems like a very bad things.......Just do try and stock up a bit folks even if its only two extra cans of something, nothing else you can do, we will get through this, Britain has a habit of surviving:)Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

charliemaine1bee, don't forget you might be able to get help with funeral costs.
I know these are astronomical as my Mum died 3 months ago and a very simple cremation, no service, no cars and no flowers cost in excess of £2500. But research at the time showed that the local council can help in some cases ( not mine but luckily Mums life insurance nearly covered it).

Thanks for the recipes today - shall try the mushroom soup but with rice - sounds lovely!
I don't really understand the bigger picture with the economy, I just have a feeling that it can't be good, it feels like as a country we are lurching from pillar to post. I'm keeping my little money close, filling up my storecupboards as best I can and honing my gardening skills to make the best of it - if things don't turn out to be so bad we can only win can't we?
So sorry to hear of those having difficult personal circumstances just now

I didn't want to read and run although nothing I can say will be of much help. But try to consciously remember happy family Christmases from previous years. All a mother can ask is that her children will have happy memories of herIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
