IIRC you don't HAVE to get a BTL mortgage - you can get a 'License to Rent' or something similarly worded from your mortgage provider so that they know it'll be rented out (for a short term anyway).

Worth asking on the Mortgages board.

Failing that my other half rents his house out and when he went to change his deal in November they asked why his post was going to another address (he lives with his dad). He explained and they said as the house wasn't his primary residence he would have to swop to a BTL mortgage. He argued that it WAS his primary residence, as it was the only property he owned, he just happened to be staying with his dad for a bit (well the last two years). basically he sweet talked the lady he was speaking to and she agreed to let him stay with his current mortgage!

Sorry for the waffle, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say!

Must look into the tenant idea this week. Thanks for your help and ideas. It keeps me going.

Had a good weekend in France and came back with £20 to spare which I've put away towards my tax disk and passport. Have now in a month got £102 in my wee savings account (need £166- £100 for tax disk and £66 for passport but don't need all that till May).

Am getting some extra money from my closed post office account today so hopefully going to out that towards my car loan. Not very much just £24 but guess every bit helps. Hoping for a no spend day today.

Got my phone bill in last night. Because I'd changed over contracts they seemed to have charged me the wrong amount. I phoned 02 and got them to change it but am still £10 over my recomended spend!

Its my friends child's 1st b/day next week so also need to get him a present within my £35 budget for the week. What I'll have to do is just drive instead of drink on my nights out. Have a works night out next week which is all paid for and could just go to the cinema (have a cineworld unlimited card) and take my sweeties with me. My boyfriend said he would pay for everything next week but thats not fair. I'd rather go without and take responsibility for my own debts.

This weekend I've got a house party to go to on Saturday so no spend there and thinking of not going out for the rest of the time... just to the gym.

    Hope everyone else is well.

Looked at my 02 phone bill again and they'd calculated it wrongly so they;ve refunded all the charges.

Have not been great this week. Have spent £26 already so have £9 for the weekend. Have got 3 big occasions next week to buy for:

    1) My friends son's 1st b/day
    2) Valentines day for my boyfriend
    3) My friends b/day

Am hoping to find some bargains and save some money but looks like my £35 next week will be spent on that :(

Thanks I'd def have a look at that :)

Its so helpful coming here. It really keeps me focused.

My friends are trying to be supportive too. They have debts similar or more than mine but haven't had their lightbulb moments yet. Its just frustrating when they get annoyed that I'm not able to do the same sorts of things as before anymore like holidays, regular nights out etc. One of my best friends really hurt me last night by saying the only reason that I don't go out anymore is cause I've got a boyfriend and I was being selfish. I said that I'd save my weekly allowance and maybe have a night out in a few weeks time. She knows that I'm trying to get debt free so I can move in and enjoy my wee flat. I just felt really selfish but maybe I have to be to stay focused and deal with my debts.

  • Am in work on a Saturday and don't get paid anymore for it :(

Did well last night. Didn't spend a penny. Went to the cinema with my boyfriend. We took our own sweeties and went to his parents for dinner afterwards.

Got my visa card statement in last night and for the 1st time in ages there is a nill balance. Also got my bank statement in and have spent £70 less than I earned.

Sold a few things on ebay last night too. Only a couple of pounds saved but I was pleased.

  • Not a good weekend spending wise at all.

On Saturday spent £1.50 on a drink.
Sunday £13.50 on a Rangers top for my boyfriend
£7 for a bag (both for Valentines Day)
£1.08 on Doritos for the cinema
£1.99 on a McDonalds happy meal
    50p Bounty
    £70 magazine

Amn't very proud of myself at all :(

Good news is that I've sold a few things on ebay which I'm quite proud of.

Have netball tonight (£2) but will try to have a NSD apart from that.

Time for an update. I lost my thread here and have only just managed to find it.

Have been keeping just about to my budgets and have been trying to plan ahead. Have so far saved £150 common charges for my flat and £105 to road tax my car.

Have also paid off a wee bit more of my carloan and have transferred it to a lower rate graduate loan with the RBS... got the approval of that today so goodbye Blackhorse :)

Have been painting and decorating the flat every weekend at the moment with my boyfriend and family. Its coming on but not liveable in yet.

Am still looking for a job with better pay. One small step at a time I guess....
