is anyone taking the offer from Littlewoods for the laptop minus 25% off? did not bother trying for this misprice myself
  • I have emailed LX direct to ask EXACTLY what the 25% is off as there are several A100 models and I don't think they come with Vista premium or student as standard. I also asked if that really was the best deal I could get, that was about 11.00, no reply yet. Grrrrrrr!

IMO the laptop still represents very good value for £434, most of the £399 laptops you see are using the (sub-standard) Celeron-M which has had it's cache decimated.

Laptops in this bracket specification wise, you're looking at £500-£650 typically. If you're looking for a laptop, at £434 this is still a good price, and you won't find one better for less than £500, that I can gaurantee.

I believe this is the same laptop but with double the memory at £499 plus they have discount vouchers on their site which vary in value depending on the cost of the laptop (£15 on £300, £30 on £500) so £485 ....don't know how much the extra memory would cost (if more than £50 then this better offer).

Just read specs on Toshiba site and it says that the above model (Equium A100-337 ) has memory specs as follows: standard : 1,024 (512+512) MB
    maximum expandability : 4,096 MB
    technology : DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)

whereas the one from littlewoods is thought to be the A100-596 and has memory specs as follows:
    standard : 512 MB
    maximum expandability : 2,048 MB
    technology : DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)

Toys R Us have a laptop for £499 http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruHome/TruComputers/TruComputersLaptop/947369 with similar specs too
Gateway Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology Intel Core Duo Processor T2250 1.73GHz laptop with 1024MB DDR2 memory and 60GB hard disk drive. Includes new MS Vista Home Basic.

    Hope this helps.

Just recieved a letter today of littlewoods, saying my card issuer refused payment for my order for 249.00.

the liers, i see other people on this site have also had the same letter, disgraceful.

why didnt they just send a letter stating the truth....mispriced.....no money taken.....order cancelled, instead of rambling on about why my card isuer may have refused payment etc.

    I like money
  • Hi all,

It appears I am in the same boat! Maybe some of you know this already and forgive me if you do, but I have been sent the same email regarding the 25% off and feel that it is complete garbage.

Ok, here are my circumstances. Seeing such a great deal, I order 5!! I then recieve an ORDER CONFIRMATION which clearly states the items as Toshiba A100 laptops.

I then get the same email as everyone saying they have declined my offer blah blah blah.

I rang them to be told that Littlewoods website had accepted the order, not Littlewoods! Then to be told that they hadn't actually accepted the item description as such, just the order, LOL. I was told they had terms and conditions that allowed them to contact me PRIOR to order confirmation and inform me of the situation. When I pointed out I had received an order confirmation BEFORE the mass mail she tried to tell me again about the same terms and conditions.

I dont think that the woman realised that items dsiplayed for sale are "Invitations to Treat". We as consumers then accept these invitations, the order is confirmed and a CONTRACT formed.

I have had the money taken from my account for the order, so as far as I am concerned Littlewoods owe me 5 laptops.

What they are doing is plain wrong. It is like me advertising a bag of spuds for £5, someone buying them, me taking the cash, then giving them a bag of carrots and telling them the spuds are actually £20.

If I did business like that I wouldn't last long and Littlewoods are no different.

I for one intend to stick by my guns in to try to get what Littlewoods advertised!

Posting a follow up of info found on the web:

I had to create an account to complete the purchase - I have a
confirmation email about the account creation and a print out of the
order invoice (actually called an order summary I see !) but no
confirmation email and no access to any of my account details either !
Even if these are rejected I would assume that they will let us know ?
Why was the delivery date so far in the future anyway ? Mines 20/02/2007.

Out of interest, and I am not a barrack room lawyer - I heard a legal
eagle (from Trading Standards) on Radio 4 yesterday saying that although
it is true that you (the buyer) can not force the company to sell to yopu
for the 'missprice' price, not to sell to you constitutes a criminal act
    - I understood it to mean that you could not force the sale but Trading
Standards could prosecute. He said that Trading Standards might well take
into account whether or not the seller chose to honor the deal when
deciding whether or not to prosecute the matter. Again, my understanding
of this is that the offence is committed by making the offer to trade but
refusing to trade at the stated price - Trading Standards cannot enforce
the sale but can prosecute people regardless of whether they honor the
price or not if they claim that the price is wrong - this would be on the
grounds of 'misleading advertising' - this would be especially true if
the price was left showing even after someone had a problem.

Sorry to go on, but I though this was interesting as you often hear
people saying that traders can be forced to sell at an advertised price.

    Cheers

Taken from the Trading Standards website:

If you order goods, and later the shop says the price has gone up, you should only have to pay the price you saw when you ordered, unless you were told there might be an increase. To be certain, ensure you get the price in writing.

    Cheers

    Dom
