Well just to break to mould we had a traditional church wedding, for us it would not have been the same otherwise, however, it was not an expensive do, the dress was made by the tailoress who lived next door to DH, and the making was our wedding pressie, we just bought the material, and the bridesmaid dresses too. I seem to think they paid for the material themselves too. One friend, and DH's eldest neice. Just a one car, which did a double trip to get Mum & Bridesmaids, and then Dad and I to the church, DH travelled with the Best man, and Dad had taken his car to the church earlier, so he could drive him to the reception. The Best Man took the older bridesmaid, and DH's brother & wife took his daughters. The flowers, we found someone locally who did them at home, at far less than the shop, though we struggled a little as it was 4 days before Princess Anne's wedding and wholesalers were keeping flowers back for that. The reception at a local pub, was restricted to 50, as that was the max Yorkshires they could make, and due to it being NOVEMBER! we had Roast Beef & Yorkshire Puddings. It was a dark & drizzly day, all the photos had to have flash, and it was so cold (I had a thermal vest on under the dress) by the time the group photo was taken, all the "oldies" had retired to their cars to shelter from the cold and damp. The whole thing was probably far less than folk pay for a dress today. Can I remember it all, after 38 years, no, but I can recall walking back up the aisle nodding, and smiling at all the friends and relations. Most of this to be honest was paid for by DDad, as was the case if you were still at home, and not living together, when you married
OS today, mmmmm, Oh! I have made some mince with lentils and oats, in the SC, and just added a tin of beans, we have some mash left from yesterday, (one lot of cooking for 2 days);), so cottage pie in a moment or two.

Bitsy- so sorry about Jemma(((hugs)))
Still waiting for the house viewers to get back to us one way or another....,but to be honest its the last thing on our minds at the moment, because in the last 2 days the male half of our best friends has been rushed to hospital, then last night DS1s GF,then at lunchtime DH Auntie rang to say Uncle is also in hospital.they say things go in threes dont they.Didnt get much sleep last night as Ds was beside himself and it was late when he went to bed.She is a bit better now,& he's been visiting. Our DFriend is also improving but it has been a scary time.
Off to go and make some phone calls.
Lou- I agree with the Aldi honey, thought I was getting a cold earlier this week, but blasted the germs with the honey, and Vit C,and it fizzled out.Feel better soon.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
i had a traditional wedding too. we were lucky as hubbys family (nan) helped us out a lot. she gave us a £1000 towards it plus paid for cake. mil paid for flowers i think. my dress i got in the january sale at about £350 i think, reduced from over a £1000  we had our recption at the local uni which was great. it has a nice lake for photos etc. we had a sit down meal (carvery) and a buffet in the evening. i think we had 80 people for the day plus about another 50 in the evening :eek:
despite the fact i am really shy in real life, i enjoyed it. everyone around us worked so hard to make the day perfect for us and it waswe found out hte next morning that one of the blokes we invited started being an idoit and tried starting a fight  they swiflty dumped him in a taxi and sent him home :rotfl:even my family behaved! oddly (for me) i was stone cold sober at the end of the day as i was pregnant with ds at the time. apart from a sip or two of champayne for photos i didnt touch a single drop. we jetted off to the domincan for two weeks on the monday after
now i want to do it all again"I have learnt that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one""You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”Maya Angelou0 -
Evening All
Oh Bitsy, that's so sad. The only consolation is that Jemma isn't suffering. May she be happy with her pal over the rainbow bridge.
JackieO - hold onto those precious memories.
JackieG - Hugs to you and your family.
Same old type of day today, work and hospice. Tea was salmon and stir fry veg - lovely but the house smells now! Will decorate a bit more of the hall later, I will do what I can reach and then have to hire scaffolding as it is over 20 ft high!
Hugs to anyone in need or just wants one. Take care. XX0 -
Evening all,
Thanks for the support, you are all :A I am not posting anymore sad news today, things are about the same here.
I did start my Christmas shopping last night, realised that if BIL does go before Christmas I wont want to do any shopping, so I had better get a shifty on just now.As long as I have the kids all sorted, I don't care. Have made a list, just need to go over it with OH, and bullied DS2 into doing his letter to Santa, so that I can make sure I have guessed correctly.
Struggling to do anthing in the house tonight, too much on my mind, I fear.
Hugs to everyone, Camelot I read about the situation with the baby, am so sorry, sounds like she's very insecure.
